That's a great video. Thanks for the memories. I'm living in Chapel Hill, NC, but I grew up in Westville, went to St. Mary's and WHS, worked at William's Home Supply delivering furniture, and ate a lot of Scale's coneys. Somehow Scales or his wife was related to us, but I can't remember how. My dad was a coal miner, as was my grandfather. We lived on Market St. and I remember the day Braza's Tavern burned (my mom wasn't very sad, though).
Again, I am thrilled to have seen these videos, means the world to me, I am sharing them with my family. I attended St. Mary's Grade School and Church.
I love the picture at the 9:18 mark. It is a picture of my grandfather Scales Norvilitis and his daughter (my aunt) cathy at the old Coney Island reaturant. That really brings back GREAT memories for me.
John Deltuva told me you had put something together.
I have to agree with Pat Prall, I think people have lost pride in the downtown. It looked better when the buildings were still there even if they were vacant. It gave the town some character. Now it just looks like a town wasting away.
Kind of depressing not to see any change when I go home.
I never realized someone had made a documentary about my hometown. It's weird seeing all these places I grew up with on here. I heard there used to be so many bars here that it was in the Guiness Book of World Records. Is that true?
Thank you so much for posting this. It's been a very long time since I've seen this presented. Your work is wonderful! Thank you for helping to preserve my town's heritage.
Thank you for doing this. I could (almost) see Joe Franklin standing in front of the Police/Fire station.
Does anyone remember the old "Wash House" on West Main St.? Seems like there was always something goin on there in the summer.

Yes...at one time, Westville, Illinois had the most bars per capita of any municipality in the world.
I'm probably the only person in Westville who has never had an alcoholic beverage of any kind.
