At least changing it to, as you say sound depressing or moody, shows a little bit of creativity. It's what differentiates the X-Factor participants from the artists, I think.

What a terrible version of this song. I liked the Pixies and Placebo - but this is absolutely horrible, makes me want to mute the television everytime the dumb ad is on.
I love this song, and many of the covers to this song. It is now the fifth version of the song I enjoy. It amazes me how one song can be done so many times, yet so differently each time.
I heard this on the thomson advert, and just thought it was incredible, but it never occured to me it was a cover of the fight club sound track, Whole new song, just as good :)
I absolutely love the Pixies original, and I wasn't keen on this cover at first. But I have given it some consideration and decided that it isn't bad. It doesn't have the impact that the original has on me, but it has a nice sound and is a different emotional take on the lyrics.
All I know is that I am fixated by this song and the video, Sunday Girl's voice is amazing and makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. She is beautiful too.
"Sunday Girl" is not raping the Pixies. I'm sure that Frank Black happily whored the song out. What it does, and what angers people so much, is that it takes something special to people (Pixies Fans) and debases it. Ironic really as Debaser is my Favorite Pixies Tune . "Sunday Girl" is not a rapist, though she does habitually screw songs indiscriminately. If you want to see someone make love to a song I would recommend Katie O's cover of Worried Shoes (a guilty pleasure)

@LukeGriffths121 I personally do not think it does the original song justice. The original has a melancholy about it. The original is a beautiful song but has a depressing feel of total emptiness. The original seems to me like its about a bad experience on drugs. The pixies version does what its supposed to . This mind is in my opinion is one of the things thats wrong with the music industry. They take a classic, change guitars etc to some piano string arrangement and have a girl whailing.

Not a bad version though I prefer the pure piano and orchestral arrangement without her voice. The Pixies original is a beautiful song, Jame Blunts cover is mundane, Placebo's version is excellent, I love Brian Molo's trademark whine putting the accentuation on 'Caribbean', She hasn't got a bad voice, it just doesn't make the version stand out as much as the accompaniment does.

@rath85 I think you feel a hell of a lot more silly when you go and use a dictionary and see every word in my comment was correctly spelled bar a typo. I'm sorry if you are still a kid and don't know that 'weird' is not spelt 'wierd'. There, there honey - we can't all be intelligent. I absolutely love the Pixies original, and I wasn't keen on this cover at first. But I have given it some consideration and decided that it isn't bad. It doesn't have the impact that the original has on me, but it has a nice sound and is a different emotional take on the lyrics.

"Sunday Girl" is not raping the Pixies. I'm sure that Frank Black happily whored the song out. What it does, and what angers people so much, is that it takes something special to people (Pixies Fans) and debases it. Ironic really as Debaser is my Favorite Pixies Tune . "Sunday Girl" is not a rapist, though she does habitually screw songs indiscriminately. If you want to see someone make love to a song I would recommend Katie O's cover of Worried Shoes (a guilty pleasure)

@LukeGriffths121 I personally do not think it does the original song justice. The original has a melancholy about it. The original is a beautiful song but has a depressing feel of total emptiness. The original seems to me like its about a bad experience on drugs. The pixies version does what its supposed to . This mind is in my opinion is one of the things thats wrong with the music industry. They take a classic, change guitars etc to some piano string arrangement and have a girl whailing.

I love the pixies for making the original but I just can't mentally comprehend (and cue the typical youtube comeback) how anyone can call this bad or even monstrous - infact I prefer this to the original (blaphstemous! Not a bad version though I prefer the pure piano and orchestral arrangement without her voice. The Pixies original is a beautiful song, Jame Blunts cover is mundane, Placebo's version is excellent, I love Brian Molo's trademark whine putting the accentuation on 'Caribbean', She hasn't got a bad voice, it just doesn't make the version stand out as much as the accompaniment does.

I love the Pixies, probably my fave band, doesn't mean I cannot love this version of a great song, I love the more orchestral feel. Please people, stop trying to think you are something special by saying its wrong to listen to a cover. The band you love and claim to be defending gave their consent to the cover and obviously like it themselves, if they didn't they would have not condone it and you would not have a choice of which version to listen to, so lighten up already!

I have no problems with covers IF they bring something new and original into the mix.
Also, do The Pixies own the rights to this song, or are you just presuming that they do? I mean, they prob couldn't care either way, but I doubt if they'd find this version even remotely justifiable.
