The main story was that Jack told Heath that he had to go into a very disturbing mind set to play the Joker. Jack himself went through periods of not sleeping because of nightmares during his time playing Joker. In my opinion, Heath's death was a horrible accident because of his sleepless nights. Jack is smiling after he said it with no remorse, so whatever he warned him about, was to Jack's benefit. He is smiling like a psychopath with no real empathy. Heath radiates a goodness about him, that's why people were sad about his passing(murder). Jack doesn't radiate much of anything except ego. They were total opposites.

Jack warned him about the drugs and what-not and that the role could quite possibly make him a little "touched", as far as comparing the two Jokers, if you knew ANYTHING about batman and detective comics you would know that you can NOT compare the two because one was in Christopher Nolan's take on batman and his transition into the Dark Knight, and Jack's role was on a completely different level in Tim Burton's take on BATMAN not the DARK KNIGHT, two different universes of Detective Comics.

The thing is, the best actors in history have succumbed at least once in their life time to some kind of insomnia or depression from their best roles, and there lies their true brilliance to making the best performances, they become another person completely, like heath, they wash out every emotion about their own self's and become the character, after the movie is done they have to empty their self's again, not easy to make the transition back to their own self's again after becoming the Joker

@bobringwood Piss off. Heath didn't "decide" on anything. Whether the overdose was accidental, or he was addicted to sleeping pills or what-have-you, his death is nothing less than tragic, and no one should think that it's a joke, and anyone who does should just piss off and keep to themselves.

For all we know, Ledger may’ve contacted Jack regarding the character, maybe he asked him to see some of the rough footage to get Jack’s opinion, I don’t know. At any rate, Jack probably figured that he was on something, and told him, “Don’t fuck with that shit unless you wanna die before ya hit 30.” We all know that Jack has experience with drugs, and when he tells you to quit, it’s pretty fuckin’ serious!

@dermagrafa Indeed. I think he meant he warned him about the dark role, possibly about drug usuage. Either way I am very saddened that Heath died, but I still am able to laugh at what Jack said, he's just being Jack. His death isn't a joke, but there's no need to start a war over a little light hearted-ness if you cant then you may end up just like Heath did. Just saying.

@dermagrafa Bull! Joker had no ill effects on Jack’s health, nor on Cesar Romero’s for that matter. I’ve seen “The Dark Knight”, and it wasn’t a very demanding performance. In fact, compared to the effort that Robert De Niro put into his performances in “Taxi Driver” and “Raging Bull”, the Joker was a walk in the park. Yet De Niro’s still alive. The drugs killed him, not the Joker.
