And I love the other team's laughter as their robot gets the worst mangling in RW history. There's real honour in losing in such a spectacular fashion.
i love how they wait until the other robot has been totally battared, and then say 'cease'. they should have really stopped the match earlier. like in a boxing match when one is getting battered they stop the fight./ thats what should have happened here.
@thelleht agreed with the cringy trash talk and bad dress sense ethics towards the end. I missed the gauntlet they had to do, if they made the gauntlet slightly harder it would have been entertaining to see how some of the more "built for pure destruction" robots coped trying to navigate their way around an obstacle course, im sure a robot like tornado may have had problems with a ramp because of the ground clearance/ beeching effect hypothetically.
I jsut remember that one time hypnodisc ran out of juice, then it was garbage, it couldn't do jack shit after running out of juice, all the spinning attackers were like that.
I remember watching this fight for the first time as a kid. Awesome! Nobody had ever seen destruction like this before on such a scale! Thats why Pearce is laughing so much, nobody had ever seen anything like it! Incredible, a revolutionary (forgive the pun) robot at the time, and still probably one of the greatest bots never to win the UK Championship. Or the World Championship, am I right? Typical RW spirit from the opposition though, the ability to laugh as their bot is destroyed :P

@bass7151 What are you talking about. Sorry but Hypno-disc control wise was terrible compared to razor. Razor could easily get behind H-D and kill him. Even so I would love to say hypno-disc would win it would be highly unlikely but then you can never tell with robot wars.

If I remember rightly, the hypno disc team used to get a lot of shit because they used to do just that, immobilise a robot then back off. So they started giving people what they wanted, which was to rip the shit out of other robots and show what their machine was really capable of.

I can't see what the problem is. if the show was called "polish my robot and give it a cup of tea" I could see your point. but it's called robot wars, and if you build something to compete, there's a strong possibility it's going to get fucked up. it's the whole point of the show.

Hypnodisc was the daddy. Deadliest weapon ever (though I loved Razer). They did well to make it nimble, if you manage to get round the back it's vulnerable to weapons and flipping, it has no srimech, but it's too quick to let you up it's arse. You can't even go near the front of it, it's like punching a man with spikes on his face.
One vulnerability is, though, when it hits something, the wheel needs time to get back up to full revolutions.
Hypnodisc are such an genius robot made for slaughter!, its only flaw is that if it are flipped its screwed. Though i think its better that it dont have any "flipback" ability. Its sure made only for pure destruction!
@lfgubrs Hypnodisc did have a srimech (Self-righting mechanism) to get it back on its feet...well wheels...at least it did have in the later wars anyway! it was a flaw in its early days when it had none but the team rebuilt the bot with a srimech built into it. classic robot along with razor (the best looking bot on the block)
No no no. A robot with excellent armour will do well against Hypno-Disc, eg. Behemoth. A robot with good armour, decent armour, average armour, crap armour - at least 90% of all robots seen that is - get owned by this amazing robot.

Not true at all. Behemoth had great armour and it was renowned for being resilient. Hypnodisc dealt alot of damage to practically every robot it came up against, it was only against the top 10% most resilient, eg. Behemoth, that it failed to damage.
Hypnodisc is an undeniably mighty robot, one of the most powerful and dangerous the series has ever seen and easily the most entertaining.
behemoth had thin titanium, it was flexible thus was resiliant to spinning blades etc, to piercing weapons it was almost useless, it was lightly scratched on its bucket by hypno, only very few robots hypno really damaged and they were generally useless, any copetent robot stood up to the "destructive" weapon of hypno, for entertaining, a ballet of superb driving from the likes of 101 is far more entertaining rather than a silver box with a spinning wheel trashing a pathetic bot or epic failing
Exactly, it had excellent armour, and was best suited to fighting robots like hypnodisc. It certainly wasn't useless against piercing weapons though, I've seen many axes and spikes bounce off it. It's resilient, very much so.
Wrong again. Hypnodisc dealt a great amount of damage to just about every robot it came up against. It was one of the most destructive robots on the series and seriously challenged even the best armours. As for the poor robots it utterly slaughtered them like no other.

Yes skill is entertaining, but in itself not quite as entertaining as the annihilations hypnodisc gave us. Yes I'd enjoy a clash of the titans more - anything that can give razer a run for its money would provide an amazing and tense fight - but hypnodisc itself is more entertaining than 99% of the robots out there. Simply good driving isn't as much fun as all-out destruction.
And comparing the damage to what happened against Razer isn't exactly fair, Razer annihilates pretty much everything if it can get a good shot at it. The fact remains however that Hypnodisc is a very destructive and entertaining robot, and one of the most fun seen.
Competent robots were beaten soundly and dealt massive damage. Only the best robots were able to resist hypnodisc's incredible destructive power.

No, 101 is not even remotely close to being as entertaining as the almighty hypnodisc. It is infinitely more enjoyable to watch a supremely destructive weapon slaughter robots good and bad than watch something simply drive around.
Not only are you a very poor judge of destructive power and robot's ability, but you've also highlighted that you have very poor taste. Tediously ramming things again and again doesn't even begin to compare to Hypnodisc's annihilation of other bots. The only robot that's really as entertaining is Razer, which is utterly incredible.

as for when they were "good" it was only against hopeless robots, who did hypno take on in their heat final series 3, a robot with ok armour, what happened... sparks and no damage. and yes i believe skill to be more entertaining than a completely mismatched battle, the best battles are against 2 good and matched robots where the winner is the one with skill
Yes Hypnodisc wasn't the best, but it WAS a good robot which did rather well for itself. It didn't have the power of razer or the depth of other robots so it was never really going to be a champion, hence why it couldn't beat Chaos 2 (grr), but it was still a tough robot that did well for itself. Also, it was easily one of the most entertaining as when it came up against a lesser robot, it utterly dicked them.
it wasnt perticularly a tough robot as shown by it being defeated by one blow od pussycats blade, and it wasnt particulaly entertaining as all it did was either fail against competence or pick on robots who shouldnt have entered the arena
Actually it WAS a particularly tough robot, hence why it came so close to winning the series numerous times and has been inducted into the hall of fame (rightfully so - it's one of the most dangerous robots out there, whether it be in Robot Wars or battlebots).
Just because it was beaten by one of the greatest (as was Razer remember) doesn't change the fact that it's one of the toughest robots ever made.
It was INCREDIBLY entertaining. Easily one of the most entertaining ever built.

What about diesector from battlebots, i mean diesector is pretty destructive too. So what do you think the outcome would be in a fight between hypno-disc and diesector?
I went and checked out disectors videos and he does seen to be a very effective robot. I really like the design. I would have loved to have seen him on robot wars.
However i feel the edge of his dual hammers as well as his wheels lack the needed protection to hypnodisks disk. All it would take would be one serious blow and disector would be out so they'd have to rely heavily on their maneuverability.
Mind you whilst I love destruction wich Hynodisc evidently provided I also loved watching a robot get tossed around like a sack of potatos which was what Chaos 2 provided!

That might have been shunt, one of the house robots. Whiles pinned by shunt, Shunt used it's diamond edged axe and pierced hypodisc's disc and stopped it dead and for the rest of the match.

In a arena where they are no limit, and you can only win by pitting and destroying the other opponent, that would be cool.I'd expect to see hypno-disc and razer fighting for england.
USA think hypnodisc is pathetic, but they have never seen a hypnodisc fight and are so stubburn about it. The only hypnodisc fight that sucked was when it was against dominator 2, thats it. All its other ones, hypnodisc was brilliant..
Amazing how rapidly robot design changed after Hypno-Disc's opening fight. 'Armour shells' rapidly dissapeared in favour of solid, fixed plate. Sadly Hypno-Disc wasnt as effective after that.
If robot combat makes it back to TV then armour will go back to shells instead of plate because people will have forgotton about the destructive weapons like this. From what I see, they all really use flippers in the independants

No no no. A robot with excellent armour will do well against Hypno-Disc, eg. Behemoth. A robot with good armour, decent armour, average armour, crap armour - at least 90% of all robots seen that is - get owned by this amazing robot.

behmoth had acceptable armour at best, 101 had cheap aluminium armour and stood up to the "might" of hypnodisc, there were only a few robots who took on hypno disc and got damaged and those had rubbish armour, like the one with a plastic scoop,

Not true at all. Behemoth had great armour and it was renowned for being resilient. Hypnodisc dealt alot of damage to practically every robot it came up against, it was only against the top 10% most resilient, eg. Behemoth, that it failed to damage.
Hypnodisc is an undeniably mighty robot, one of the most powerful and dangerous the series has ever seen and easily the most entertaining.

behemoth had thin titanium, it was flexible thus was resiliant to spinning blades etc, to piercing weapons it was almost useless, it was lightly scratched on its bucket by hypno, only very few robots hypno really damaged and they were generally useless, any copetent robot stood up to the "destructive" weapon of hypno, for entertaining, a ballet of superb driving from the likes of 101 is far more entertaining rather than a silver box with a spinning wheel trashing a pathetic bot or epic failing

Exactly, it had excellent armour, and was best suited to fighting robots like hypnodisc. It certainly wasn't useless against piercing weapons though, I've seen many axes and spikes bounce off it. It's resilient, very much so.
Wrong again. Hypnodisc dealt a great amount of damage to just about every robot it came up against. It was one of the most destructive robots on the series and seriously challenged even the best armours. As for the poor robots it utterly slaughtered them like no other.

behemoths armour was not very resiliant, they had to repair and replace most of it after each bout, except against hypno when they only had to replace the bucket, whereas against razer they had to replace vital components so the robot would work

Yes skill is entertaining, but in itself not quite as entertaining as the annihilations hypnodisc gave us. Yes I'd enjoy a clash of the titans more - anything that can give razer a run for its money would provide an amazing and tense fight - but hypnodisc itself is more entertaining than 99% of the robots out there. Simply good driving isn't as much fun as all-out destruction.
Behemoth's armour was quite resilient actually.

And comparing the damage to what happened against Razer isn't exactly fair, Razer annihilates pretty much everything if it can get a good shot at it. The fact remains however that Hypnodisc is a very destructive and entertaining robot, and one of the most fun seen.

Competent robots were beaten soundly and dealt massive damage. Only the best robots were able to resist hypnodisc's incredible destructive power.

No, 101 is not even remotely close to being as entertaining as the almighty hypnodisc. It is infinitely more enjoyable to watch a supremely destructive weapon slaughter robots good and bad than watch something simply drive around.

Not only are you a very poor judge of destructive power and robot's ability, but you've also highlighted that you have very poor taste. Tediously ramming things again and again doesn't even begin to compare to Hypnodisc's annihilation of other bots. The only robot that's really as entertaining is Razer, which is utterly incredible.
Seriously, you're comparing Wham to The Clash with 101.

yes razer is without doubt the best
but hypno is a one trick pony and was quickly surpassed by better robots
as for when they were "good" it was only against hopeless robots, who did hypno take on in their heat final series 3, a robot with ok armour, what happened... sparks and no damage. and yes i believe skill to be more entertaining than a completely mismatched battle, the best battles are against 2 good and matched robots where the winner is the one with skill

Yes Hypnodisc wasn't the best, but it WAS a good robot which did rather well for itself. It didn't have the power of razer or the depth of other robots so it was never really going to be a champion, hence why it couldn't beat Chaos 2 (grr), but it was still a tough robot that did well for itself. Also, it was easily one of the most entertaining as when it came up against a lesser robot, it utterly dicked them.

Actually it WAS a particularly tough robot, hence why it came so close to winning the series numerous times and has been inducted into the hall of fame (rightfully so - it's one of the most dangerous robots out there, whether it be in Robot Wars or battlebots).
Just because it was beaten by one of the greatest (as was Razer remember) doesn't change the fact that it's one of the toughest robots ever made.
It was INCREDIBLY entertaining. Easily one of the most entertaining ever built.

It was entertaining because it defeated competence with ease, gave other great robots a run for their money or utterly slaughtered the lesser robots (what were they expecting, entering on robot wars?).
It was immensely entertaining because it was one of the most dangerous and destructive robots ever entered into competition. It was entertaining because it was successful, an excellent challenger and was easily one of the most destructive robots out there. That is not in any doubt.

I went and checked out disectors videos and he does seen to be a very effective robot. I really like the design. I would have loved to have seen him on robot wars.
However i feel the edge of his dual hammers as well as his wheels lack the needed protection to hypnodisks disk. All it would take would be one serious blow and disector would be out so they'd have to rely heavily on their maneuverability.

That might have been shunt, one of the house robots. Whiles pinned by shunt, Shunt used it's diamond edged axe and pierced hypodisc's disc and stopped it dead and for the rest of the match.

Id like to see a world chmpionship on big channels and air all over the world.
In a arena where they are no limit, and you can only win by pitting and destroying the other opponent, that would be cool.I'd expect to see hypno-disc and razer fighting for england.

USA think hypnodisc is pathetic, but they have never seen a hypnodisc fight and are so stubburn about it. The only hypnodisc fight that sucked was when it was against dominator 2, thats it. All its other ones, hypnodisc was brilliant..

Amazing how rapidly robot design changed after Hypno-Disc's opening fight. 'Armour shells' rapidly dissapeared in favour of solid, fixed plate. Sadly Hypno-Disc wasnt as effective after that.

If robot combat makes it back to TV then armour will go back to shells instead of plate because people will have forgotton about the destructive weapons like this. From what I see, they all really use flippers in the independants
