Bloody hell. This was obviously broadcast days before the film opened in the UK. Unbelievable spoilers. Especially the "I know" exchange, arguably the second biggest moment in the whole film.
IT's so cool to see them watching the cut of the ultra-dramatic carbon-freezing scene with such clunky sounds, yet John immediately sees past it and goes to work.
...How could anyone *not* like this music? John's a genius, it's absolutely breathtaking, and it never gets old! :) Thanks for posting this, I love to watch documentaries and such.
@LoyalPadme whats more sad than 2 people not liking this music is that this has 12000 views but a Yanni's video with plagiarized Vivaldi mixed with techno music has 8 million! So go figure.
JW is no doubt a classical composer of the highest standards, only diff is that he made much more money. He could have stayed just doing concert works but would have produced great stuff even there.!
@nevertheless123 - Look at it this way - even though not everybody may really appreciate John Williams - imagine if they had to watch Star Wars without his music! :)
The depiction of the Han Solo/Princess Leia love theme here and Mr.Williams' work on it here and his other films before, throughout, and to today -- amazing!
Hi im using the documentary as a reference for my university assignment. By any chance do you know any details and about this... eg the year it was aired, what channel? Thanks for your help.
Star wars a new hope is the greatest collective achievement in the history of sci- fi film. John was inspired to create one of the best classical scores in history by your so called pathetic movie. I like that you appreciate the music and call it a great symphony. But you must relize this was the greatest sci fi achievement ever!!!! You have much to learn young Jedi......May the force be with you**********
Bit harsh. Just remember, they were watching a workprint, with only location sound. The version he recorded against had adr, fx and foley added. I do agree though, that music transforms a film. But never underestimate the work that goes into the soundmix too.
I love this documentary. It was made back in the day when documentaries actually taught you something instead of just entertaining you. Thanks for this.
best use of trombone ever right after 1:00 lol

it's amazing how without the music the movie is so pathetic.
Starwars is actually a great symphony, illustrated by a sci-fi movie.
