Spoken like a true exgirlfriend... Grow up u stalker psychohose beast. Its been damn near a year and u cant leave the guy alone. Get a damn life n move on and while ur at it piss off!
@sanitybleeds I highly doubt that ANY airline would replace my seats if I did gate check/check them on the premis of "the carseat company considers them crashed after they are gate checked." But then again, if my children were flying, they would all be safely secured IN their seats. Again, the luggage being thrown around doesnt bother me at all. And Im sure that the guy tossing the luggage didnt have a clue that even dropping a carseat can damage it without it showing damage.
@Laurie24 We don't even recognize the word crashed. The fact is, its a service item. Meaning we are fully obligated to replace them regardless of the cost or level of damage lest we suffer the wrath of the DOT. And believe me, we notice damage long before the owners ever do, we usually just don't bring it up to avoid hassle.
@sanitybleeds ALL of my carseats ARE aircraft certified. I own 2 britax frontier85 (harness to 85 pounds then booster to 120) they are approved in harness mode only, and a Britax advocate70 CS which is also aircraft certified. You cant tell from just LOOKING at a carseat that was gate checked/thrown around and tell if it has damage that will cause it to fail in a crash. Oh and FYI, my seats install fine in ANY vehicle that I have ever installed them in.
My reaction isnt to the luggage. But throwing carseats on the ground like that?!?! That is why I will never check/gate check my $300+ carseats. Most carseat companies consider a carseat "crashed" if its checked at all for a flight. When I fly, I check baggage with the knowledge that my bag might not come out looking perfect on the other side, and thats ok. But what if I had a checked carseat that failed in a crash???
@Laurie24 Oddly enough, most airlines completely cover the cost or replacement of damaged car seats. The fact you paid $300 for them makes me think you wanted some ridiculous safety harnesses and hooks that effectively make them unusable on most aircraft, and plenty of vehicles as well, but then, you need those features to work, because if they fail, the size and weight of your $300 car seats will crush your child.
you should see what really goes in the luggage bin underneath the plane! I see nothing wrong with this...and of course fragile just means to throw it harder.
This happens because we are rushed and understaffed. The airlines don't give ground crews time to really care about your luggage, we just make sure it gets where its going.
Everyone can point at something and pick at it by saying whats wrong. However at the end of the day we all have hard jobs. He might have been having a bad day who knows we arent magic and we can not read the human mind. I do believe the airport should try and find a way to correct a problem like this due to the fact we all pay good money to have a good flight and to have our bags tooken care of.
@TheAiprilAylar The price you pay barely covers the fuel it costs to get you there. What you pay for baggage barely covers the costs of fuel to keep it afloat too. Our job is to get it there, your job is to pack it so that it can complete the flight in one piece. We don't pack your baggage for you!
@sanitybleeds Really though? The price people pay for flights is fucking stupid. and for what? to sit in a smelly hot, sweaty, cramped plane. If you're paying a lot of money out you clearly want good service. And good service includes our bags. Now im not usually one to be pickie but this is a problem and should be corrected.
@TheAiprilAylar Well, next time you feel like traveling, price out the cost of gasoline for your car and you'll realize its still cheaper to fly most anywhere than pay to drive. If you want great service for what you think you're paying so much for, go charter your own flight to avoid the smells and cramped quarters and handle your own luggage. You aren't paying any more than the guy who carries his bags on or packs sensibly and with consideration for those who have to handle what he packs.
@sanitybleeds Ha u can try as hard as u want to prove me wrong but 99% of people on this page is still going to agree with me instead of u. I highly doubt I can drive my fucking car across the ocean dumb ass. I pay good money for first class flights and my luggage will not be treated this way. Do ur job and do it right. u can sit here and disagree with everyone but I know that if u pay good money for luggage and for a flight and someone mistreats ur lugagge like this then even u would b mad
@TheAiprilAylar Of course you can't drive your car across the ocean, silly. Which makes flying especially cheaper in your case! But you drive as far as say NYC to LAX, with gas avg at $3.30 a gal, even if you get 30mpg and can drive almost 3,000 miles without stopping over about 3 days time, you're still looking to pay about $330 just for gas alone. Southwest Airlines can get you there in about 6 hours for even less than that, without stopping!
@sanitybleeds The point is when u are hired to do a job you should do it right and if you dont like youre job and youre not going to do it right then quit because there is no point in being in a job that youre not happy with and youre not going to do youre job correctly.
@TheAiprilAylar In a perfect world, everyone would enjoy their job and take pride in it, unfortunately, that is rarely the case. Despite that, even the most bargain priced Walmart luggage is extremely resilient to getting knocked around or dropped. Your luggage is literally designed for it! If for some reason it cant withstand falling 3-4ft or having about 200lbs placed on top of it, there is really no reason for you to own or use or travel with it for any reason!
@sanitybleeds If u want a good job that you're happy in GET A EDUCATION and if u dont have one and ur stuck in a job u hate then try to better ur self by finding a way to get into a job close to the one u would like to have instead of taying in one you hate and breaking other stuff . Most luggage is cheaply made. I myself carry Louis Vuitton luggage and I dnt go out and pay right at $10,000 for luggage just to have it throw about because some care less worker.
@TheAiprilAylar Louis Vuitton is actually pretty impressive stuff, I've never had the bags themselves get damaged or torn. Even the handles hold it pretty well unless you get one with long loop handles, but those are doomed to break regardless of who handles them just by design alone. Still, with that you pay for them, you expect that. On the upside of that though, most airlines will offer insured service for such bags and hand carry them everywhere without rampers ever touching them.
@TheAiprilAylar The problem with that is, alot of what people check in IS trash, bags so old, broken, worn out, and so over-packed that they should have been thrown out years ago. You assume because luggage is mistreated that handlers hate their job, when its more often the opposite. We get paid to work out! Nowhere in our job description or in any training manual does it specify how we are to handle baggage, just how much time we are to spend moving it (approximately 7sec per bag).
@sanitybleeds Ok here is where I am going to prove you wrong again. Lets go back to when you complaned about how the price people pay for flights does even cover fuel cost. If that was true then planes would stop flying because there not making a profit! So clearly the price we pay is good enough and pays for fuel and you're paycheck to.
@TheAiprilAylar That would be a good point, until you consider most every airline operates at a loss. Last year alone, Delta ended the year just short of half a billion dollars profit loss. The only airline to turn a profit was Southwest, and that's only due to years of aggressive fuel hedging. Airplanes continue to fly because some cities will offer guaranteed revenue deals to keep travel going. Just like Amtrak operating at a loss and getting government subsidies for decades.
@sanitybleeds the bottom line is I am right and you're wrong and I can bet half of the people on this page will back me up n the fact that airlines are pigs and the people that work for them are all shit and cant do anything right.
@TheAiprilAylar This isn't even an issue or right or wrong. It's your own opinion vs. mine, with actual facts thrown in to show how much you're unaware of. Having your opinion, while highly uninformed, isn't right or wrong, it's just your opinion. Besides, the people can't all be shit and incapable of doing right, otherwise you'd be right with your previous statement about planes no longer flying. And how can the companies be pigs when they're the ones operating at losses?
@sanitybleeds Yes, it is however you're opinion is one sided which makes this discussion invalid. I have proved all you're points wrong and will continue to prove you wrong. IF I was unaware then clearly I wouldn't be fighting with you because I check myself before I wreck myself. Yes, yes they can be all shit. If I want to go to Paris or other country's I have to take a flight there for no matter how the help is I will still go. If they were at such a loss they would be out of business.
@TheAiprilAylar Clearly, you have no idea how an argument works, Stating you're right doesn't make it so no matter how many times you keep saying it. Had you actually done any industry research rather than just stated what you think goes on, you might actually have some legitimate argument here. Instead you come off as a simple child shouting "I'm right because I say I'm right" And sadly, yes you did wreck yourself, right from the beginning when you decided to use your own opinions as facts.
@sanitybleeds The funny thing about this is you're calling me a child when everyone on this page has there own ''Opinion'' like u said yet u just had to comment on other peoples comments like a child that u probably are. So natural u new others would reply back to what u said. However instead of just letting things go u want to continue like a child. I have clearly proved you wrong in more then one way. OH I know I haven't wrecked myself so no worries :)! but you might want to check you :)
@TheAiprilAylar So wait, I'm a child because I keep responding, so what does that say about you for continuing to respond as well? You haven't proven a single thing, offered a single fact, or made a single statement you can back up with any information. Hell, you can barely form a coherent sentence here. The fact is, you made the first post in this thread, you stated your opinion that you pay for your bags to be "tooken" care of, when all you pay is for them to be accepted, nothing more.
@sanitybleeds Yup you're a child. All you want is for me to give up and thats not going to happen. I am right you're wrong. Oh and I have many times. Due keep on I find this amusing :)
@TheAiprilAylar Aww, you like me! All you had to do was say so, silly! All this false pretense, the fake attempt at an argument, all you wanted was attention! Fine, I'm listening. Lets talk about you!
@sanitybleeds '' luggage is extremely resilient to getting knocked around or dropped '' - U. And now youre saying that '' The problem with that is, alot of what people check in IS trash, bags so old, broken, worn out, and so over-packed that they should have been thrown out years ago. '' so cleary you're wrong AGAIN.
This has nothing to do with 'heavy bags' or 'being paid low wages'. This guy just doesn't give a shit. He probably treats everything like that. That's what's wrong with the world today - people don't give a damn about anything anymore.
There was nothing wrong with the way the baggage was being handled, if you have fragile stuff, use your right to a carry on...oh that's right, you don't want to give up your leg room...priorities.
The issue I have here is how he was just throwing the car seats around, I am a ramper and I personally do my best to take care of items like that, time permitting. By the way, your bag likely got tossed a further distance once it was inside the bin and you can only hope it was on the top of the pile.
agree...zoso...How many times have we thrown suitcases and bags? Its just clothes. Breakables should be carried in a carry on. I also seem to remember a commercial where the APE did more throwing and mishandling of luggage than this guy did...
@fluffylittlerabbit a carseat that is checked is most likely considered "crashed" by the company. There is no way in HADES I would gate check my $300+ carseats!
Since the airlines are charging more money for luggage handling, paying customers should be allowed to put ShockWatch impact stickers on their luggage, and receive a refund for luggage that has been handled roughly. The shock stickers should tell you when the luggage gorillas have mistreated your property.
@harbosma Clearly, you've never tried maneuvering a third or fourth baggage cart into position behind a beltloader without making contact with a wing, otherwise, you might sound like you know what you're talking about.
@sanitybleeds Oh, yes I've done that several times, but there's also something called 'manpower'. We normally place the carts in a good position in behind the beltloader, so you don't have to carry (or even throw) to baggage over such a long distance. This makes loading way better. And you should not want to throw the baggage (and miss several times) like the guy in the movie, and in full view of the passengers.
@harbosma You figure if each cart can hold about 50 bags, and this guy is half way into a third cart, about 120 bags in, when loading by himself, the last thing the guy wants to do is unhook and manually reposition a fully loaded cart just so he doesn't upset some thoughtless jerk whose loaded yet another bag full of everything he can think of to warrant having to pay for a piece of luggage, but hey, as long as its just an issue of "manpower"...
Nothing too wrong here, but for a few poor tosses, and he maybe could treat the infant seats with a little more respect. Otherwise, what do you expect from someone making little more than minimum wage.
.As a ramp agent on a daily basis, I'd say the average bag is at least 60-70lbs now. It was probably OVER the 50lb limit before fee's and now it's even heavier.
Most bags are SO over packed that when I grab the handle, MANY times it has ripped off in my hand and I've punched myself in the mouth. I've seen transmissions...yeah..CAR transmissions, microwaves, TV's (in orig box) 100lb tool boxes, bikes, goat cheese, fish. All this stuff melts or breaks and then people want to get paid. REALLY ?
If it's really that fragile, then we invented bubble wrap for a reason. I work at an airport and there's deadlines to meet. Unless you want your flight going out late, that is - or worse, I'd get written up for going too slowly.
@LameBums He didn't exactly save himself time by throwing the luggage - several pieces of which he had to retrieve because they bounced off the conveyor and onto the concrete runway...
I did this job in college. Here is what I learned: Asians pack canned goods in their luggage. Sometimes rednecks roll loaded guns up inside a sleeping bag. A dead moose can be shipped in back of an aircraft if it is covered with cardboard. You will NEVER get your tv from New York if you ship it in a box that says tv.
It's called 60 Seconds in the Life of Luggage I was unable to add the link. But I was right so you guys can tell me to hush but justice has been served! THANKS! :)
It really entertaining that people are still responding to this link years later. We have gotten use to increased prices and poor customer service. Sounds like the American way! Actually are a new cast got a hold of this I was contacted and given a credit ($25) from the airline service. So comes to find out they actually do care and they would prefer to not have this broadcasted. I am sure this job is exhausting and the poor guy is over worked. I blame understaffing!
A lot of it realy comes down to the fact that these guys are overworked...by union standards. You see, these guys are not like state employees that can stand around and look at a pot hole for 5 hours before fixing it. They actually HAVE to work, since flights depend on it. There was a drug bust a while ago where baggage handlers were busted. They ALL had priors. But since they are union and hired pre 911, they stayed on the job after the first charges a couple years back. Sad...
@brwnsugayum i did say some bad things about lufthansa but i was wrong. i take back my insults from them. US airlines or united luggage handler+luggage=LUGGAGE FAIL
Lufthansa luggage handler+luggage=paradise for ur luggage.
i said lufthansa is cheap but they arent i was just mad but THIS AIRLINE IS ABUSING LUGGAGE THAT IS ANIMAL ABUSE WHAT A CRUEL MAN!
unless you have ever worked on an airport ramp the shut the fuck up you dumb ass r lucky these bags even make the flight, dealing with hundreds of bags a day and i tight time schedule,yr bags r not that important, the airline cares about one thing...getting that plane out ON TIME, NOT YOUR SHIT BAGS.
At least her bag made the flight. I work in the industry and if you want everyone's luggage to be treated with "care"...your looking at cut flight schedules, increased delays and higher ticket prices resulting in an inconvenience for you, the passenger. Then you, the pax would get upset because you missed your connection because the ground crew handled every bag with "care". Just let us do our job and don't complain and use common sense when checking bags.
@skidude747 Throwing a car seat?? Really?? Luggage should be sturdy and able to withstand rough and tumble. I get that.
But when in any auto accident, they recommend replacing a car seat. Him throwing a car seat is just not ok. The impact on the ground would be enough to warrant replacement and those things are expensive! It would have been easy enough for him to just set it down.
i usually disagree with complainers about baggage handlers, but this guy is too much,he is to lazy to move the cart closer, therefore he is THROWING bags.Something you should never do,especially with people watching
@659235 and anyone else that thinks this is OK. If you dont like the job dont fucking do it, it aint the only job were your hawling ass all day, and if it were that bad they'd make a TV show out of it, EXTREME RAMP AGANTS !! HEH HEH. Do us all a favour and quit and go do something like knitting, you bunch of unprofessional wankers. I gaurantee this guy will no longer be doing this job fucking jerk he his
I totally agree. you try lifting and placing over 1000 bags a day nicly on the belt and see how long you do that. if you dont know already not to put anything breakable in your bag you diserve to have it broken. im not saying we try to break stuff because most of us dont.. most people think our jobs a joke. it aint your working all day long moving bags cargo body's in caskets that way 500lbs + and those you HAVE GOT TO be careful with or its your job. b4 u judge try if for a day.
first of all the guy is an idiot he can pull the baggage cart a bit closer to the belt loader and second you people actually think were going to be gentile with your luggage this is nothing you should go see the fedex mial handlers :P
buddy they don't give a dam about ur luggage just dont put anything breakable in it and everthing will be fine. besides every airline treats luggage the same way
@triadfb79 It's not the Airline, it's the ones out there that don't give a shit. If this dick head would have been closer to the belt loader, he could have placed the bags on the loader and not throw them. This guy just doesn't give a shit. Most of them don't but there are a few of us that do.
Irregardless of what these guys get paid or how hot it was etc, they still should treat the luggage better! I bet if the shoe was reversed they would be pissed too if they saw someone handling there luggage like this!
Blame the higher ups, not the actual workers. These poor guys are getting paid squat to work out there in the heat with very little help. Unfortunately, you see this a lot in various businesses across America. Corporations try to get away with having little staff as possible.
baggage cart too far away, probably hot as fuck, hes the only one out there. he's doing a good job. go the fuck out there yourself or dont pack such useless shit that can break, you have an option of a carry-on
@syngates4life11 it is not easy puting the the bags on the belt loader by your self and a time limit iknow this becaus im a ramp agent at IAH you try doing that by your self or get in the bins and stack the bags
@syngates4life11--Good point! Isn't throwing baggage like that grounds for termination? I used to be a package handler and throwing packages could cost you your job.
I worked for this airline not to long ago these guys work on 3 sometimes 2 man crews and on most of the ouick turns we have about half an hour to turn the plane that includes downloadin it when it comes in and thats when suitcase wheels and handles go flying when we have 2 trow bags off and the bags in the back get trown harder so you get to leave om time
If you actually thought about it, the distance that luggage is traveling from his hands to the belt is equal to dropping it from your waist to the ground. If you're worried about your bag or the contents within you should pack better or get new luggage. By the way did you happen to notice how many bags that guy handled the whole day? I'll tell you from experience that it was hundreds. You should change the title of this vid and stop crying.
your a whiny peice of shit, he's doing a fine job, its prbly hot and those bags can way upwards of 30 or 40 pounds, I'd like to see your whimpy ass get out of the comfort of that plane and critisize him out there, or much less do his job for him....
atlanta .. where the ramp agents deal with 800+ flights a day. you're lucky your bag even got on the damn plane, don't bitch about a guy not treating it like gold.
um do you have any idea how heavy a bag is. well get the average of them and multiply it by 120. that the weight these guys put on a plane. my father had doen that job for 5 years. he got sunburn he cut himself from the bags. people what do you expect. think about the delta guys on the ramp in atlanta. working that load everyday. YIKES!
YOU ASSHOLE MAKE NOTHING BUT EXCUSES! If that moron had even pulled up closer it would have been alot easier. As it is, he was actually lifting the bags up high and smashing them. Hes an ass like you
yeah why dont you start a petition to the airlines telling them to keep all their aircraft on the ground 2 hours longer than they need to be so we can stack your precious suitcases filled with clothes ever so gently. i do agree that this ramper was a bit harsh with the luggage, but cut us some slack. were out there in the hot and cold and rainy weather doing a dangerous job all so you can get to your destination on time
It's funny to see all these people insulting this guy as if he's doing a bad job. Truth of the matter is that 90% of these folks couldn't do this job. There is a high turn over rate for rampers because this job is hard.
Every day one literally moves thousands of pounds luggage and not to mention if you have freight on a flight (happens a lot out here at DTW) and every flight you have only a half hour to load it....
Go a head and place every bag neatly and nicely on a belt loader and watch yourself take a delay and then have a manager breathing down you neck and angry ass passengers glaring at you.
Ok.
You think this is bad... Be glad you can't see in the bin.
Yes, he could've placed the bags better, but the truth is it's not an easy job. You're out there, lifting heavy bags every second, trying to get the plane on time.. sometimes you only have 10 minutes to do it, and you see everybody rushing trying to get your bags on the plane.. at the end of the day, you end up with all kind of cuts, bruises and backpain, EVERYDAY...
coming from someone who works for airtran. Yes he could have handled the bags better. Instead of placing the bags he's throwing them. And that is highly unexceptable. You should have made a comment or called the number. This never happens in Atlanta.
Really? Aside from tossing the stollers/carseats I didn't see any mistreatment. If you think that ramp agents can gently place 100some bags in the short amount of time given, you're seriously deluded. Your luggage gets tossed around more than that during flight. It's not like it's tied down or anything in there. Packing glass items is just dumb.
if u worked there u would do the same, there's no way to set thousand of bags a day in a timely matter, all the airlines mistreat your bags, to think theyll gently place them on the belt 1 by 1 is laughable
i ramp for a major north american airline, and i know if i was caught doing this i would get written up like that. i do infact place bags on the belt one by one, i find i use much less energy placing than having to provide the thrust for a 70LB bag to take flight. simple tip for this clown, park closer next time, its easier.
Yeah, it's fucked up. The guy doesn't give a damn - but who can blame him. His job is slave-like. After doing that for a little while I would be pissed, too. I bet he is getting paid good, though. I hope no one was carrying glass items.
if u worked there u would do the same, there's no way to set thousand of bags a day in a timely matter, all the airlines mistreat your bags, to think theyll gently place them on the belt 1 by 1 is laughable
I agree with the writer who said there was no mistreatment of luggage. The luggage handler did not treat any bag inappropriately. He was doing his job, and the bags looked heavy, but I can tell you honestly that there was no out of line treatment of the bags. Find another axe to grind.
Who cares what you say! Wrong is wrong and throwing luggage around like a rag doll is only funny until your sh*t is broke and you have to deal with it! Like I said in the description someone's luggage piece was broken. I hope it was yours. When you pay extra for luggage wouldn't you want yours to be treated with care?
@lynnmchisholm Sorry but did you not see him throw that car seat onto the tarmac at 0:27??!! If that was one of my children's items I'd be furious and making a formal complaint and asking for compensation for damage!! You can't just throw car seats and buggies around!!
Those car seats are safety devices that should not have been thrown - or have anything thrown on them. And several bags free falling on their ends is also inappropriate.
I kept watching this video waiting for the mistreatment to start. The reason know one else an the plane cared about the "situation" and the reason none of your stuff was broken was because he was treating it fine. If you think your stuff doesnt get thrown around the bottem of a plane during take off and landing you are delusional. They dont buckle it all in down there.
Lol... everything in life is like this if you look beneath the surface. Ironic isent it? They nearly doubled the prices, and yet they treat you stuff like shit... well, still I guess. lmao,.,.
This is Airtran Airways. It was a flight from Flint to Atlanta on July 21, 2008. I spoke with other passengers on the flight and they just laughed at the situation no one seemed to care but me. I was fortunate and did not have any damaged property. I hope that those individuals that did receive damage spoke up. Most airlines are charging extra for weight, additional pieces and even your first luggage piece, if this kind of treatment happens it needs to be free!
Lol ok david

@TheAiprilAylar Of course you can't drive your car across the ocean, silly. Which makes flying especially cheaper in your case! But you drive as far as say NYC to LAX, with gas avg at $3.30 a gal, even if you get 30mpg and can drive almost 3,000 miles without stopping over about 3 days time, you're still looking to pay about $330 just for gas alone. Southwest Airlines can get you there in about 6 hours for even less than that, without stopping!
sanitybleeds 3 months ago
@sanitybleeds The point is when u are hired to do a job you should do it right and if you dont like youre job and youre not going to do it right then quit because there is no point in being in a job that youre not happy with and youre not going to do youre job correctly.
TheAiprilAylar 3 months ago
@TheAiprilAylar In a perfect world, everyone would enjoy their job and take pride in it, unfortunately, that is rarely the case. Despite that, even the most bargain priced Walmart luggage is extremely resilient to getting knocked around or dropped. Your luggage is literally designed for it! If for some reason it cant withstand falling 3-4ft or having about 200lbs placed on top of it, there is really no reason for you to own or use or travel with it for any reason!
sanitybleeds 3 months ago
@sanitybleeds If u want a good job that you're happy in GET A EDUCATION and if u dont have one and ur stuck in a job u hate then try to better ur self by finding a way to get into a job close to the one u would like to have instead of taying in one you hate and breaking other stuff . Most luggage is cheaply made. I myself carry Louis Vuitton luggage and I dnt go out and pay right at $10,000 for luggage just to have it throw about because some care less worker.
TheAiprilAylar 3 months ago
@TheAiprilAylar Louis Vuitton is actually pretty impressive stuff, I've never had the bags themselves get damaged or torn. Even the handles hold it pretty well unless you get one with long loop handles, but those are doomed to break regardless of who handles them just by design alone. Still, with that you pay for them, you expect that. On the upside of that though, most airlines will offer insured service for such bags and hand carry them everywhere without rampers ever touching them.
sanitybleeds 3 months ago
@sanitybleeds Again the point is do youre job right. and not toss other peoples things around like its trash.
TheAiprilAylar 3 months ago
@TheAiprilAylar The problem with that is, alot of what people check in IS trash, bags so old, broken, worn out, and so over-packed that they should have been thrown out years ago. You assume because luggage is mistreated that handlers hate their job, when its more often the opposite. We get paid to work out! Nowhere in our job description or in any training manual does it specify how we are to handle baggage, just how much time we are to spend moving it (approximately 7sec per bag).
sanitybleeds 3 months ago
@sanitybleeds Ok here is where I am going to prove you wrong again. Lets go back to when you complaned about how the price people pay for flights does even cover fuel cost. If that was true then planes would stop flying because there not making a profit! So clearly the price we pay is good enough and pays for fuel and you're paycheck to.
TheAiprilAylar 3 months ago
@TheAiprilAylar That would be a good point, until you consider most every airline operates at a loss. Last year alone, Delta ended the year just short of half a billion dollars profit loss. The only airline to turn a profit was Southwest, and that's only due to years of aggressive fuel hedging. Airplanes continue to fly because some cities will offer guaranteed revenue deals to keep travel going. Just like Amtrak operating at a loss and getting government subsidies for decades.
sanitybleeds 3 months ago
@sanitybleeds the bottom line is I am right and you're wrong and I can bet half of the people on this page will back me up n the fact that airlines are pigs and the people that work for them are all shit and cant do anything right.
TheAiprilAylar 3 months ago
@TheAiprilAylar This isn't even an issue or right or wrong. It's your own opinion vs. mine, with actual facts thrown in to show how much you're unaware of. Having your opinion, while highly uninformed, isn't right or wrong, it's just your opinion. Besides, the people can't all be shit and incapable of doing right, otherwise you'd be right with your previous statement about planes no longer flying. And how can the companies be pigs when they're the ones operating at losses?
sanitybleeds 3 months ago
@sanitybleeds Yes, it is however you're opinion is one sided which makes this discussion invalid. I have proved all you're points wrong and will continue to prove you wrong. IF I was unaware then clearly I wouldn't be fighting with you because I check myself before I wreck myself. Yes, yes they can be all shit. If I want to go to Paris or other country's I have to take a flight there for no matter how the help is I will still go. If they were at such a loss they would be out of business.
TheAiprilAylar 2 months ago
@TheAiprilAylar Clearly, you have no idea how an argument works, Stating you're right doesn't make it so no matter how many times you keep saying it. Had you actually done any industry research rather than just stated what you think goes on, you might actually have some legitimate argument here. Instead you come off as a simple child shouting "I'm right because I say I'm right" And sadly, yes you did wreck yourself, right from the beginning when you decided to use your own opinions as facts.
sanitybleeds 2 months ago
@sanitybleeds The funny thing about this is you're calling me a child when everyone on this page has there own ''Opinion'' like u said yet u just had to comment on other peoples comments like a child that u probably are. So natural u new others would reply back to what u said. However instead of just letting things go u want to continue like a child. I have clearly proved you wrong in more then one way. OH I know I haven't wrecked myself so no worries :)! but you might want to check you :)
TheAiprilAylar 2 months ago
@TheAiprilAylar So wait, I'm a child because I keep responding, so what does that say about you for continuing to respond as well? You haven't proven a single thing, offered a single fact, or made a single statement you can back up with any information. Hell, you can barely form a coherent sentence here. The fact is, you made the first post in this thread, you stated your opinion that you pay for your bags to be "tooken" care of, when all you pay is for them to be accepted, nothing more.
sanitybleeds 2 months ago
@sanitybleeds Yup you're a child. All you want is for me to give up and thats not going to happen. I am right you're wrong. Oh and I have many times. Due keep on I find this amusing :)

RestlessLion 6 months ago
There was nothing wrong with the way the baggage was being handled, if you have fragile stuff, use your right to a carry on...oh that's right, you don't want to give up your leg room...priorities.
The issue I have here is how he was just throwing the car seats around, I am a ramper and I personally do my best to take care of items like that, time permitting. By the way, your bag likely got tossed a further distance once it was inside the bin and you can only hope it was on the top of the pile.
jeffl0385 8 months ago
agree...zoso...How many times have we thrown suitcases and bags? Its just clothes. Breakables should be carried in a carry on. I also seem to remember a commercial where the APE did more throwing and mishandling of luggage than this guy did...

Since the airlines are charging more money for luggage handling, paying customers should be allowed to put ShockWatch impact stickers on their luggage, and receive a refund for luggage that has been handled roughly. The shock stickers should tell you when the luggage gorillas have mistreated your property.

harbosma 1 year ago 7
@harbosma Clearly, you've never tried maneuvering a third or fourth baggage cart into position behind a beltloader without making contact with a wing, otherwise, you might sound like you know what you're talking about.
sanitybleeds 3 months ago
@sanitybleeds Oh, yes I've done that several times, but there's also something called 'manpower'. We normally place the carts in a good position in behind the beltloader, so you don't have to carry (or even throw) to baggage over such a long distance. This makes loading way better. And you should not want to throw the baggage (and miss several times) like the guy in the movie, and in full view of the passengers.
harbosma 3 months ago
@harbosma You figure if each cart can hold about 50 bags, and this guy is half way into a third cart, about 120 bags in, when loading by himself, the last thing the guy wants to do is unhook and manually reposition a fully loaded cart just so he doesn't upset some thoughtless jerk whose loaded yet another bag full of everything he can think of to warrant having to pay for a piece of luggage, but hey, as long as its just an issue of "manpower"...
sanitybleeds 3 months ago
@harbosma but that would take some intelligence...common sense ain't so common anymore! OYE! :/

.As a ramp agent on a daily basis, I'd say the average bag is at least 60-70lbs now.
REALLY ?

@av8or757 I used to do this to man, I hear ya, most bag damage is caused by the person it belongs to, by over packing!

If it's really that fragile, then we invented bubble wrap for a reason. I work at an airport and there's deadlines to meet. Unless you want your flight going out late, that is - or worse, I'd get written up for going too slowly.

I did this job in college. Here is what I learned: Asians pack canned goods in their luggage. Sometimes rednecks roll loaded guns up inside a sleeping bag. A dead moose can be shipped in back of an aircraft if it is covered with cardboard. You will NEVER get your tv from New York if you ship it in a box that says tv.

brwnsugayum 1 year ago
It really entertaining that people are still responding to this link years later. We have gotten use to increased prices and poor customer service. Sounds like the American way! Actually are a new cast got a hold of this I was contacted and given a credit ($25) from the airline service. So comes to find out they actually do care and they would prefer to not have this broadcasted. I am sure this job is exhausting and the poor guy is over worked. I blame understaffing!
brwnsugayum 1 year ago
@brwnsugayum
Sad...

Just let us do our job and don't complain and use common sense when checking bags.
skidude747 1 year ago
@skidude747 Throwing a car seat?? Really?? Luggage should be sturdy and able to withstand rough and tumble. I get that.
But when in any auto accident, they recommend replacing a car seat. Him throwing a car seat is just not ok. The impact on the ground would be enough to warrant replacement and those things are expensive! It would have been easy enough for him to just set it down.

If you actually thought about it, the distance that luggage is traveling from his hands to the belt is equal to dropping it from your waist to the ground. If you're worried about your bag or the contents within you should pack better or get new luggage. By the way did you happen to notice how many bags that guy handled the whole day? It's funny to see all these people insulting this guy as if he's doing a bad job. Truth of the matter is that 90% of these folks couldn't do this job. There is a high turn over rate for rampers because this job is hard.
Every day one literally moves thousands of pounds luggage and not to mention if you have freight on a flight (happens a lot out here at DTW) and every flight you have only a half hour to load it....

If you think your stuff doesnt get thrown around the bottem of a plane during take off and landing you are delusional. They dont buckle it all in down there.
