(continued) Though I would like it if there was no horse slaughter AT ALL, the fact is that there are too many horses that aren't being well kept and ARE starving or in poor shape to neglect. (And some abuse cases.) More than there are homes for. For the ones that nobody will take care of, the slaughterhouse MAY at least give them an end to their life that is quicker and less painful than starving to death or dying of diseases brought on by neglect.

I'm as against cruel and uncaring treatment of horses as much as anyone, but when it comes to the issue of horse slaughter because there's a market for horsemeat (in less civilized countries), the fact is that there are FAR too many neglected and undernourished or starving horses in America, and not enough good homes for them. The rescues are mostly full up and can't take on more without more donations. Horses aren't free to keep. How can you keep them alive when nobody will pay for them?

boylebenjy2010@so this is just the reason to change our behaviour!its now 2012 and its just dicusting to kill horses or other animals just because i like the taste.....dream on ....there are so many vegetarian food today.....we do,t have to kill animals for the meat...we are no longer in the middle ages......

@janita1300 i am not against vegetarians, thats their choice. all I'm saying is that some people and a lot of countries across the globe still see horses as a main food source. this doesn't nessiceraly mean they treat them badly. there are many "tribes" of people whose whole life style solely depends on the horse. they raise them, ride them and use them to hunt as well as eat even if it is 2012. this does not mean they treat the horses in their care badly. its just their way of life xoxo

@ILoveTiaYou and that is the type of horse slaughter i would try to stop, because it isn't right. if some one sent a cow to a slaughter hose in the state some horses are sent, they would be sent away. this is what really needs to change. x

this video is amazing, i just want to point out though that yeh, horse slaughter is bad but they have been a source of food for humans for thousands of years, so why stop now. along as the horses are well looked after and slaughtered humanely then i don't have a problem with it, but there are some cruel people out there that need to be stopped xoxo

@boylebenjy2010 I don't know anyone who eats horse on a daily basis, and I have never seen horse meat in any store I have been to. And most of horse slaughters are not humane at all. Most of the horses are starved and have injuries. x

@passionforhorse If you go to France, you'll see horse meet in stores. And because you don't know someone who doesn't eat horse on a daily basis doesn't mean there isn't people. You'd be surprised how many slaughter houses are inhumane though. And yes, the horses that go there are starved but that's because they spend days in a trailer with no windows, cramped and no food or water. They take perfectly healthy horses from the sales and slaughter them. It's cruel and inhumane.

@HeelsDownRider i would try and stop the inhumane slaughter of horses. horses that are injured and neglected and not looked after well should not be aloud to be slaughtered. if you look at all the legislation surrounding the slaughter of livestock and poultry there is tons more than horses. in some parts of the world, horse meet is still a main food source and for some humans, it is there sole source of meet. i was only saying I'm only against it if it is done inhumanely. xoxo
