  • wtf! why you cheat us like this! fucking bbc just crushed 3 hearts!!!!!! screw you we will never watch you documentaries again!!!!!!!

  • This was uploaded ON APRIL FOOLS DAY so they are spreading lies so therefore penguins can fly :)

  • @TobyMalek dude it's just a 2min April Fools' joke, they do it every year. Loosen up bro. It's a JOKE.

  • It's sad that even BBC doesn't/didn't know the difference between special effects and visual effects...

  • O_o

  • What is left to believe on April?

  • cant get over the British accent! so delicious and nutritious lol. i need to learn it

  • 1:08

    Vertical takeoff. I Rofl'd.

  • subtitle plis espanish

  • HAH! WHEN PENGUINS F-

    Crap.

  • Anyone know what bird is referred to at 1:14?

  • @punisouffle a Guillemot

  • @dddiop Thank you!

  • No You ruined my moment :( i was so happy, and now im sad :(

  • LOL i really believed it

  • what program were they using for the animating and editing?

  • i got tricked

  • Who doesn't love Jonesy? Honestly?

  • Richard Hall is rater kissable.

  • I think they did a great job!

  • penguins cant fly because Chuck Norris doesn't allow them.

  • "You" are the fools!!!!

  • Wow, morons arguing over whether it's real or not back on the original video, and more morons here arguing about what computers they used, LOLOL. For the record, you can make a movie on either type of computer. Just enjoy the joke for pete's sake.

  • @Cowcharge Who is pete?

  • HEY DIPSHIT FRANKIEBOYLEINNIT THEY ARE NOT USEING WINDOWS DUMMBASS ITS FINAL CUT WHICH IS ONLY ON MAC

  • @storiedemu final cut is not only on mac you spastic

  • @CakesnakeFilms Oh yes it is.

  • And like everything else in life, April Fool's Day becomes another self satisfying venture.

Who the hell would spend hundreds of hours going through all that stock footage, creating the graphics just for a couple minute video everybody instantly knows is fake?

  • @Proletariat12 people who enjoy their jobs?

  • @Proletariat12 because the bbc cares about quality :-)

  • Penguins CAN fly. In the water...

  • of course penguins can fly... they are just running a bit too slow for take off

  • OMFG ppl when someone on the internet is using special effects in his movies, 99% is using ADOBE AFTER EFFECTS and not windows movie maker -_-

  • All this for a prank

  • Chuck Norris could make them fly...... :)

  • lol i actually thought it was real LOL

  • I begin to wonder if Gaddafi has had jet fighters bombed the rebels as reported by BBC and CNN... may be it was all computer trickery to give excuse for the West to rob Libya of fossil fuel!

  • Valuable use of the licence fee there *HEADDESK*

The program they use to do the animations appears to be Maya by autodesk.

  • Does anybody can tell me which video editing program they are using?

  • lol funny they are cute period if they could fly they would be even cuter

  • :(

  • This is why I am more than happy tyo pay my licence fee! Go Beeb!

  • It's clever and it's funny, but it's very unethical. The fake video was made as a commercial for the BBC IPlayer, with the message being "BBC is at the forefront of all the truly amazing new discoveries, and here's the proof:" They even use the word "unmissable".

So they attempted to sell more of the product by being outright dishonest. That's technically not legal, but apparently the April Fool "wink" makes it okay.

Shameful, creepy, and very reminiscent of Orwell. And BBC also covers news...

  • @Canaderek What a drab world you must live in to not even have a sense of humor.

  • darn i thought they could actualy fly

  • what a technique...........i m impressed

  • Damn, they tricked me.

  • flying is overrated anyway

  • Right down to their reflection on the water, brilliant.

  • very cool, nice job :)

  • I am just in awe of the Brits' mastery of the insane.

  • nice XD

  • LMAO

  • This video is fake. The government covering up new discoveries as usual.

  • its true they can fly but not these species the ones that live near a beach or rocky places

  • binakaka hahaha

  • @mrsandri1234 hahah! bisaya.. :)

  • @dharyxxx alang lahe rjud

  • ooooh!!!!

  • BOO!!!!

  • Oh you bastards! I was so trusting to not even look at the date posted, well played BBC well played.

  • T_T

  • this april fool video are make with adobe after effects

  • Comment removed

  • @tabishrafiq not on its own. Nothing of this complexity is done exclusively in 1 program

  • the colour scheme and image quality doesn't match

  • heheheheh my whole class got shocked...lol

  • AHa hah hah hahah, I was thinking WTF? Then I was thinking Wow! Then I was thinking I didn't know that! Then I was like OMG, I gotta show this to everyone I know, then I was like no wait, is this for real? Then I was like You got to be kidding....then I was like...LOLOL

  • bessttt lol

  • this is the epicest apil fools joke eva BBC ftw

  • i was soooo freaked out i was laughing

  • Hyper Realistic

  • Penguins can really fly.. They just don't really feel like it because their scared of heights

  • @Murd0ckDK Lol? Okay that was pretty bad?

  • @Murd0ckDK hahahah..that's cute..but really??? O,o

  • i agree

  • @Murd0ckDK i have a comic character called penguy, he can... hover, (BTW he`s not the hero but the sidekick)

  • too real xD

  • so sad they couldn't fly..but good thing to know and watch this video first before telling all of my friends that penguins can fly. i was about to tell them.... LOL!

  • @dharyxxx haha so was i and would have been like" i am right, i've seen it" lol. lucky i watched this too

  • haha this is gold

  • how i wish they could really fly ..... i really love penguins :(

  • i cried. i wish they could fly, so they can fly me with them around the world.

  • wow

  • had i not seen this , i would believe and challenge my freinds that indeed pinguines could fly. This is very creative but the stature of BBC documentaries is bit eroded and im getting skeptical of their facts now than before.

  • @pitoymoeh make sure it's not april fool's and there's no need to be sceptical

  • watchin the original "april fools joke" made me wish it was true. now im just remembered i still dont like penguins

  • lol... they're using windows instead of mac. Mac users can no longer claim apple's video editing superiority.

  • @frankieboyleinnit after effects (software they were using) works on both systems. Also, apple still dominates the market in feature films and TV shows. I can name numerous Movies and TV shows who use apple computer. First of all, Pixar (possibly because it is owned by Steve Jobs). The show "Burn Notice" Uses Apple Final Cut Pro. Many Film studios use Final Cut Pro as well. just because this studio uses windows doesn't mean it's superior.

  • @rab236 it's not a one of the other, I work for a media group that uses final cut for the edit, and after effects for effects. Large films such as Avatar used things like Maya AND After Effects (among many others) for a lot of the 3d work and then cut it together using Avid Technology. Audodesk, Adobe and Avid are all available for Mac or PC. And it's true that Apple dominates the market, however Final CUt pro does not. Avid does.

  • @sifs4 I know. I wasn't trying to say that Final Cut dominates all other video software. I actually prefer After effects and and Premiere to Apple's Final cut and Motion. I had to cut a lot of my comment to keep it short(ish), including the part about Avid. I know studios use different systems (many of which use Linux). I was trying to make the point that Windows is used alongside mac (another part that I cut). All major studios use a mix, and Final Cut is used in most professional studios.

  • @rab236 alright alright, i have no further complaints. but Linux? What software comes for Linux... I'm so intrigued now (I've never looked into Linux) I just know that some people swear by it and say it's rock solid...And I prefer the Adobe system too (high five)

  • @sifs4 There are a few pieces of software on linux. There is maya and soft image to name a few. A lot of Linux software is proprietary, though, as it is an easy operating system to program to do what you want it to. It's open source, so there are unlimited possibilities, unlike Windows and Macintosh, which have very limited alterations. Linux can also run on basically any machine and can be programmed to fit a machine that it doesn't already fit, unlike OSX which can only run on Apples legally.

  • @rab236 That's pretty cool, didn't know Maya was available for linux. Thanks!

  • @sifs4 It only works on the 64 bit versions of Red Hat and Fedora as far as I know, and no problem.

  • @frankieboyleinnit I'm not trying to provoke a Mac VS. PC argument, but you, along with most other people who argue about this, are not well studied in the subject matter. I know what I'm talking about.

  • @rab236 - By saying what you did, is highly likely to provoke a Mac vs PC argument here. I am well studied in this also and know that After Effects and Premiere Pro are highly sophisticated pieces of software for graphic production and video editing. With a higher end PC running windows, such as 64bit, quad core, and > 4GB ram, it will easily be a match for Apple's much more expensive and "closed" computer ideology.

  • @frankieboyleinnit

The editing being described and shown is on a Mac (at 0.25, 1:34, 1:45 and throughout).

That said, they DO show a clip of a guy using a PC to search for penguin clips at one point, and your comment is certainly popular in terms of thumbs ups (but that may be due to brand loyalty - I'm guessing no Mac users are also thinking "Yeah! Mac's aren't especially good for editing!")

Like Hollywood, and all major television networks, BBC uses Avid software on Apple computers.

  • @Canaderek - I think you'll find that is at 1:30 he's using adobe after effects on windows, not mac. Also, he is doing the compositing in after effects on windows at 2:17 .

  • @frankieboyleinnit You're right. We see both types of computers in the video, and I'll concede that I misidentified at least one of them.

If it's worth it to you to do the research, you'll find that nearly all "high-end" editing is still done on Macs. Most digital video editors still prefer them. For now, at least.

I don't like them myself. The cyclopean mouse makes me feel slightly unwell, and I don't really have any video editing needs.

  • @frankieboyleinnit They just use windows for the 3D wireframe, so shhh. We never claimed to have the best 3D software.

  • @frankieboyleinnit Um, Mac users claimed apple is superior at editing because douchebags from Hollywood and America in general are way too stupid to operate PC's. A Mac will never have the power needed to render 4K videos or IMAX for that matter.

  • @frankieboyleinnit ...but they should have used Linux for the penguins:)

  • Behind the scenes "I believe I can fly"

    สุดยอด CG

  • there is a saying "there is no point in being a grown up, when you can't behave childish sometimes"

only this comes to my mind when i believed that the previous one was real :)

hat's off to BBC, you guyz really rocked :)

  • lol its just shows u dont belive everything the bbc tells you they chat alot shit knowing people will belive them

  • all about the trick! its same like trick in the movie...

  • All this trouble... To trick some people and making themselves look like assholes..........

  • fake

  • @Dsupreme1 congratulations for discovering that.

  • very very impressive.

  • おもしれ~~

  • funniest thing about this entire thing? all the remtards that believed it.

  • Man, that was GREAT!

And it was Terry Jones, not Sir David.

  • how in God's name could any moron actually believe there are flying penguins since we have explored every inch of our planet, almost literally. not only that, but satellites have detailed imagery and some satellites' only purpose is to scan for wildlife and such. way to go

  • @ThelemicMage You are completely wrong, we have not explored every inch of our planet. You obviously know nothing about our oceans.

  • @tammm6 Jesus Christ. I forgot to mention that we have a little bit of ocean to finish exploring, but we have traversed every inch of land on this planet by plane just to find creatures like this. Yes, obviously I know nothing, and I am the fucking moron here, not someone who left a remark that could lead someone to suspect that penguins live in the god damned ocean. You're bright.

  • 2 nucking fice!

  • lmao!!

  • Can someone please explain me, how they remove the green background to do the video montage?

  • @Pollitochuloo that's though chroma key effect, they usually use green because not much of the subjects' body parts are green,

  • @rrenzer Is there a way to do that using "Sony Vegas Pro 9"?

  • @Pollitochuloo ...MAGIC.

  • aaaaaaaahhhhhhh you got me!!!!

  • 0.0

  • i feel we have all been rick rolled :/

  • @oOToXSiiCkOo Oh yeah. Whenever I see documentaries made by the BBS about penguins and movie magic, I think of rick rolling -- a completely different subject and matter altogether. Please don't give any more credit to a phenomenon that only imbeciles would pay attention to.

  • Comment removed

  • @ThelemicMage haha look how angry your getting your like a living joke hahahaha, u get laid dozens of times my mypace chicks ? so people who are desperate, ugly and u dont even know them LMFAO!!!!!!! you are such a fail , even when u comment back you make a comeplete tit out yourself , FAIL ?

  • @oOToXSiiCkOo D'you know that when you try to ignore all of the rules of grammar at the same time, it makes you look like a total cockgobbling idiot? It's true.

  • Comment removed

  • @oOToXSiiCkOo I'll let you sort these things out with your therapist. From your irratic typing regarding the idea of sex, I can tell that you were molested as a child, and have a slight edipole fixation.

  • Comment removed

  • @oOToXSiiCkOo Actually, I was the one who was bulling people around, well except until high school. I'm a 6 year psychology major. Your sentence structure related to my previous comment suggests you were sexually molested, you got mad at the true edipole fixations, and you were bullied at school as well. See, you have mental problems because of all this, and your "talk" shows it. You say "took it out" when clearly I just responded to your dumbassedness. Proof. I won't reply to this, shit-stain.

  • @oOToXSiiCkOo

    @ThelemicMage

Both of you are making arses out of yourselves, just shut up and ignore each other. Does it actually matter that much to either of you?

  • @1Huggz your right im guna delete my comments

  • Fake.

I hate the fucking morons who post that about every video.

  • LOL i knew it! i was like..something is wrong in the other vid..they have too much flubber, and their wings are too little to carry their body to lift off. and if that really was the case, they'd be a hot topic..i didn't even hear about "flying penguins" till now..so i thought something was up. but this prank was brilliant! haha

  • I was sucked in...

  • awesome, i wish i can learn the effects..

  • Good Job!

  • Who made this one? Framestore CFC?

  • wow.. take THAT pixar!!! XD XD XD XD

  • It's Adobe After Effects.

  • i thought it was true.....=3=

  • yeah this was actually pretty good.

  • what greenscreen program were you using

  • lol I didn't believe it for a second.. I know too well about flight feathers and how badly they need to have wings at least one and a half length bigger than their bodies.. and p enguins are just too fat to fly yeesh and tehy don't even have normal feathers they are more like fur than feathers .. too long and skinny and downy like to ever hold in air it would be like an airplane flying by flapping its flat smooth metal wings instead of having a motor and propellers with straight wings.

  • @LionGoddess1 pipe down

  • What the.. I really thought it was real :O

  • i completely fell for it

    sad... TT^TT

  • oooh no way! i believed in it soo badly haha!

  • I think they used mushrooms.

  • I think the used Maya.

  • im heart broken... i thought it was real=(

  • i thought the other video was real... i told everyone, and someone told me this video, and sent me a link to this... i was heartbroken

  • @alessonfromthedead WTF ?! Everyone knows penguins can't fly :O

  • @alessonfromthedead

Heartbroken. I feel your pain. We all do. *sad hug*

  • @alessonfromthedead How could David Attenborough do this? Spent his whole life building credibility, just to break the hearts of millions who trust him. It wasn't even funny. I believed it, and now I feel terrible.

  • @br8d1 What makes you think its David Attenborough?

  • @ndjm00 oh snap

  • @br8d1 agreed, he screwed himself over,. cause now i will believe nothing that he says

  • @alessonfromthedead

yeahh that's the magic of Chroma Key! xD! (The software to do this)

It have happened to me in some films too!

I though..." wow! what a wonderful place they are!" xD! and then when I watch the making of, I'm like...

    "WTF"!!

But I think digital animation is the most wonderfull things on films, because it make you believe something is not possible like this.

  • What?!! Sacrilege!! lol

  • I totally believed the original video was true! I was on the phone and got so excited...then I saw this...and felt sill haha!

  • Same here

    :S

  • @Ceighty76 ME 2 except i was on fb and an aim XDD i was like OMG PENGUINS CAN FLY, PENGUINS CAN FLY PENGUINS CAN FLY

  • awesome!

  • hurray for cg

  • what software did they use?

  • I'm thinking they're using some kind of Adobe software
