I have a macbook pro 2.4ghz maxed out, and i am still dumping money into the G4 just for the hell of it! lol ...and i know i'll use it as a storage option and itunes streamer with 10.5.8, and itll do 2560x1600 on my 30" dell now with that 9600 pro upgrade :D Now all i need is an apple keyboard!! :( They're just so pretty and still capable of doing most daily tasks. Im impressed you game on that thing instead of your mac pro hhaha! :)

I want to upgrade my G4 system which is running the Stinkey Ol' Mac OS X 10.1 OS on it! It just sings Hi Ho when I run basic programs on it, but I need Firefox or Safari, but to my surprise, it runs Internet Explorer 5.1! Anyone know what I could do?

Oh, IDK the Processor speed, but I definitely know that it has a weird number of ram in it, it says it has 264 MB of ram, but I would've expected it to be 256 MB, but I don't care, it boots up right, and i'm happy! !:D

Hi!, awesome video, man i just got a PowerMac G4 2x 867 mhz 2GB ram 60 Gb Hard Drive... i just installed leopard on it and its really slowingdown. With tiger was just ok, but i need leopard for certain apps The video card it has its a sad Geforce MX 4 with 32 mb of video memory... i just searched today and i found a flashed video card (Geforce FX 5200) with 256 MB of video memory, AGP with 1 VGA output... its worth it? i mean, if i install it on my machine the performance will improve? thanks!!

@EgEmDark Leopard does have more overhead and also puts more of demand on the video card; yes, an upgraded card will make that machine snappier, without any doubt; I have heard of people flashing PC based cards with success; do your research on the reseller and if you have the money to burn, and you are making good use of that machine, do it; if not, go BACK to Tiger which is what I STILL RUN on this G4 system.

Well, I'm no proffesional but I do know that it's a little stupid to run final cut on this perticular model of the g4. If you upgrade the RAM and the Video Card in the newer MDD models of the G4, then that should run it but very slowly. Because I think they ran dual G4's in the later models.

Hi Wolf - let me answer your question. I put the very best I could, at that point in time, to extend the life of the computer as long as possible. As a matter of fact, I'm on that system right now, as it is still servers as my main machine, and since the video card was 'the best' at that time, it's still 'ok' even today. The system is 9 years old. It owes me nothing, and I got 400% out of it. It also got the 'FF-Class' phrase in motion, and my dialogue with TheCreativeOne, now a good friend.

He'd never be able to use that card in a modern computer, especially a Mac Pro or an Alienware.

The G4 uses the AGP bus for the graphics card, so the new Radeon card is AGP.

Mac Pro and modern Alienware computers use PCI-Express for graphics, which is a different bus altogether.

Think of the power you could have if you decided to get rid of the digital audio G4 for an MDD dual 1.25 with L3 cache, or even a dual 1.42 WITH L3 cache? And free up a pci slot, since the MDD supports hard drives up to petabytes!

What's wrong with MDD? The mirror door has a weak PS, so I have an external power supply for everything that don't have to go on main power. Extra fans that make it noisier. Only takes 4gig of RAM. Had to go with DVI because I don't have cinema displays. Lacks SATA drive support. Wish it had FW and USB on the front. iTunes has lossless comp but no SP/DIF out. And last but not least: Don't work on the system on nylon carpets. ESD!
