This is what Boston sounded like before the producers stepped in. And these are some of the recordings Tom claimed made up the first album. Ever head the demos of the songs from the album? In other words, he's full of shit. And he was a piss poor guitarist, still is. Goudreau was the axeman in that band for sure...
Not sure how anyone can think that isn't Brad. This is a great tune...too bad it never made it to an album. If you can find it, you should check out "Shattered Images" by Boston-another unreleased great!...
Great song! Thanks for sharing it with us. I was a huge Boston fan, and one of those people who were waiting on that 3rd album. I very much agree that this is better than anything released after the 2nd album. Great stuff! No telling how much more of this stuff is sitting around there unreleased.
All due respect to Tom Scholz but he wouldn't know how to guess a good song if it kicked him in the ass. THIS SONG KICKS ASS! After all, wasn't it Tom that wasn't happy with the album "Don't Look Back"? Tom took 7 years to make the 3rd Stage and it was mediocre IMO. Not totally the "rock&roll band" I loved off the 1st 2 albums. And the rest of the crap Scholz has produced since then is ballad girly garbage. Barry Goudreau & Sib were srley missed since the 2nd album. IMO.
@Towncrier123 That's exactly what I thought, opening riff very similiar to Funk#49. Whover said the James Gang was a forgettable group, I'd have to disagree. They had some good songs.
These are the first demo's that he worked on with Delp, Goudreau and Jim Masdea 1969-1972. He was never happy with them because he couldn't get the right feel out of them.
The second set of demo's that got them the Epic Records deal were recorded by Scholz, Delp and Masdea 1973-1975.
Is that even Brad singing, I don't think so. The band obviously went through some changes after this so their sound went wat beyond The James Gang, a forgettable group.
@ViciousAlienKlown Yes this is definitely BOSTON - that is Brad. - These demos were cut WAY before Tom perfected how to EQ Brads voice (and which mic to use for him!) and before he got the BOSTON guitar sound down. Tom was a BIG fan of the James Gang. Tom never wanted this stuff to be heard anyway. Since this stuff surfaced, he makes sure all the tapes are shredded before tossed in the garbage.
I loathe really bluesy rock like this so it should come as no surprise that I'm glad they never released this crap. Songs like "More Than A Feeling" are total classics. This, on the other hand, belongs in a trashcan, in my opinion.
Boston has pretty much always been my favorite band but I've never heard them bring a rock quite like that, and I need for you to say how you got this.
Does anybody know if the early Scholz, Delp, Goodreau band, Mothers Milk, make any recordings other than the demo's that Tom Scholz created in his basement? Is there a good recording of Television Politician out there somewhere? I'm hoping Scholz releases some of his early, early Boston, pre-Boston songs.
@bluesbred3 Just as an fyi to anyone reading Blue's comment, Mother's Milk was NOT the group on the demo that Scholz sent to Epic (to secure their first recording contract). That recording only had Scholz, Delp and Jim Masdea on it. Fran Sheehan, Sib Hashian and Barry Goudreau are not on that. In answer to your question, Bluesbred, I bet you'd only get the real truth from Barry, Jim or Tom at this point. We can't get Brad's opinion anymore :( rip
I read that Tom Scholz is working to release some unreleased songs by Boston on CD. I heard Something About You, Scattered Images, and Talkin to the wall on YouTube. This is what the world has been waiting for! Scholz has a library full of these recordings. I welcome anything of this caliber to be released. With Scholz talent in the studio, it will sky rocket Boston to the top of the music mountain once again. Please release these songs. What an honor this would be to Delp's legacy!
I have not read about unreleased material on a new CD, but there are several unreleased songs. San Francisco Day became Hitch A Ride, 90 Days became More Than A Feeling, Shakin became Smokin, and Life Isn't Easy became Something About You. "Scattered Images" is actually Shattered Images, and was performed during some of the 70's concerts, just like Television Politician, which was also played during the 1988 tour. I uploaded this video from the Canada concert.
I understood it was "She's a looker/Talkin' to the Wall" I just called it talkin to the wall for short. I did include "she's a looker" in the tags though.
Tom admitted in an interview that he wanted to call it "She's a Hooker", but I guess the record executive (I could be wrong about who) wouldn't go for that. This song was supposed to be on the debut, but for some reason, it was left behind.

Thank goodness it was left out. I can't stand when good solid rock bands put out psychedelic or boogie blues stuff. I just can't stand that kind of music. Man, does this sound like the James Gang or what?

Wow this is uncharacteristically bluesy for Boston! Really different sound but it's SICK like anything else Tom Scholz has ever produced.

It's Bradley. If you listen to any of the acetate demos from "Mission Aborted" there's no doubt.
But I agree with the James Gang "cloning".
