  • when someone does that to a 6 year old child he is exempt from EXCESSIVE FORCE.I WOULD HAVE BEATEN HIM BRUTALY WITH A BASEBALL BAT TIL HE WAS BLOODIED UP THEN TAKEN THE 44 MAG TO HIM ONLY IT WOULDNT BE A HEAD SHOT

  • Disturbing? What the fuck, its not like the suspect too a bribe or some white collar crime. Whats disturbing is the suspect raped and sodomized a 4 year old girl ! Before you post something stupid make sure its not about little children you gutter mouth punk!

  • Disturbing that a Detective would describe the US Constitution as a quirk in the law. The suspect just should have asked for a lawyer and told him to fuck off.

  • Get your head up when I'm talkin' to you!!

NO ONE could tell another person off quite the way Jack Webb did!!!

  • I wear a fedora becuase Jack Webb was a real man

  • And one last thing your racist out there; if God, The Supreme Court and the US Constitution doesent question the color of PRESIDENT Barrack Obama's skin, you dang well see to it that YOU DON'T either!! I dont' like him as a president myself nor am I behind his baby killing, fag marrying ways either but I dont' IGNORANTLY pin any of it on the color of the man's skin. What does the color of his skin have to do with shit!!

  • Cop-shows are SO full of crap compared to the reality of government strong-arm paramilitarism.

Look at the OJ trial for a REAL look at "L.A. Law" as proof that they're a barrel of incompetent circus-monkeys and Nazis.

  • Nice clip, too bad it's out of sync.

  • Joe Friday should be on Dateline!!

  • "The elimination of the death penalty is not to protect criminals; it is to protect the innocent."

Where did you get that claptrap? ACLU? Some university? The elimination of the death penalty is a spit in the face to murder victims and their families.

Might as well say: "Yeah, go ahead 'n' off someone and we'll support your ass for the rest of your life...or for the next 7 yrs, when we'll release you to do it again."

    What rot.

  • That punk has "Bubba's girlfriend" written all over him.

  • no such thing as excessive force when it comes to dealing with a child molester

  • I wish Joe Friday was around today and give the smack down to our pussy generation....we have gotten so soft and useless with our emo kids and self entitled way of thinking. We need a Jack Webb to pimp slap us back into shape

  • Jack Webb, you rule!

  • Isn't it ironic that Joe Friday would probably be disqualified from joining the LAPD today? Straight white men aren't good for anything except acting as scapegoats nowadays.

  • @DartmouthAlum96

    You're exactly right!

  • @DartmouthAlum96 You nailed that one--just ask Stacey Koon.

  • you tell him joe...

  • Before there was Dirty Harry, there was Joe Friday...and don't you forget it!

  • I made a tune sampling this audio:

    soundcloud[dot]com/okota/quirk-in-the-law

let me know what you think :)

    Peace

  • I love Joe Friday's strait laced moralism--his outraged tirades. His code of ethics is as black and white as the car he drives. Medicine for an ambivilant world.

  • God, how I wish I could speak to bad guys like this in the interview room.....

  • Got chills just listening to this, Jack OWNED this guy!

  • What episode is this??????

  • @06bigd2000 This is from the 1966 pilot movie. You can find it on the new Dragnet 1968 DVD set distributed by "Shout! Factory."

  • @Mattleycrue66 I can't wait to watch that- we just got the DVD set!

  • Lol, a squirming, guilty looking punk and the upright cop - now that's entertainment. Btw, that 'flaw' has been 'fixed', so you won't be getting that speech.

  • I hope this guy is still a cop!

  • This totally pwns. Jack Webb was such a great actor. His staccato 50 mph hour methodology in these speeches doesnt appeal to everyone, but it fitted this show perfectly, IMHO. This speech is like East wood's big speech in Gran torino minus the racial slurs and profanity and, obviously spoken at a much faster clip. lol

  • I did it! I did it! I confess!

  • No one could rip a creep a "new one" like Joe Friday with one of his great orations.

  • from;LANCER. 01/03/14/2010 A.D.;GROW UP,BUDDY BOY,WE ARE ALL GOING TO PAY FOR ALL OF OUR SINS IN THE END,NOT JUST HIM.THERE ARE NO SUCH PEOPLE AS GOOD OR BAD PEDOPHILES,REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THEY ARE DEAD OR NOT.

  • Wow, I don't remember this episode. RTV is playing 1969 right now. What year is this one from? Plus I never heard Joe Friday use profanity before {he uses "damn" in this one}

    Classic.

  • @fmscribs It was from the 1966 pilot 2 hour episode that didn't air until 1969.

  • You go Jack. Don't take shit from no smart mouth punk.

  • Shut up you gutter mouth punk-descibes most kids today!!!

  • @Redblazer500

get bent and, y'know, listen to some Miles Davis 45s =D

  • @Redblazer500 HGWT5763. 06/10/29/2010 A.D. SCREW CAPITAL PUNISHMENT,THAT BELONGS TO GOD AND GOD ALONE.

  • @HORSE1492 Capital punishment belongs to God and God alone? It doesn't seem to have occurred to you that God ordained HUMAN GOVERNMENT to take care of such things as punishment, capital and otherwise. You expect God Himself to throw the switch on an electric chair or administer a lethal injection? Keep dreaming. You might as well expect God to lock your front door at night too. FYI, God doesn't work that way.

  • @wannawatchu66 Amen! I know God created all and is in charge of all. However, He also gave us minds, with which to exercise common sense.

I also know that "common sense isn't so common anymore." A sad commentary on our day.

  • @StukInBuf Backatcha!! Sad, indeed. Kindred spirits are we!

  • @wannawatchu66 you are correct...in fact, i dont remember where exactly, but i think it's in leviticus, it states if man sheds blood, then by man shall his blood be shed. besides, there are criminals who cannot be punished or rehabilitated any other way. Cop killers, child molesters, mass murderers to name a few

  • @Redblazer500 Maybe describes the "Jersey Shore" cast, for starters.

  • Its not like this was some isolated indecent!!! Friday busted him several times before and twice for rape and this scum is still on the streets? You know the non violent white collar crime criminals go to jail for 20 years to life and yet these sick mother fu+ker child molester monsters continue to get freed from jail for something stupid and then roam our country looking for more victims. Hey I believe in 2nd chances for most crimes except murder, kidnapping and child molesters. HANG THEM >>

  • This version of Dragnet is unique, as it contains a racial slur. By the villian, of course - Jabb Webb had a lifelong dislike for race fanatics. I think it should be put in, as it is what triggers this angry speech.

It is just before the speech. In response to a question from Friday's colleague, who is black, the suspect snarls 'Go swallow a germ, you nigger cop!'

Cue Joe Fridays speech. Go, Joe!

  • Thanks for that info, its very interesting and I would really like to see this episode in its entirety. They used to show them back in the 1990's on the TV Land channel. I wonder if they are showing Dragnet anywhere else.

    Regards

  • The have many of the old Dragnet episodes on Hulu.

  • They show Dragnet on RTO Tv at 5;30 pm Mon-Fri

  • @hugatag The "Dragnet" episodes from the sixties are now on RTV. The Retro Television Network. Look them up on the 'net, and you can get the rundown, friend.

  • This is from the 1960's Dragnet pilot movie. It's rarely shown on tv but shows up on AMC now and then.

  • @FrankLJ - I have to agree. Where can this full episode be found?

  • @thespeez It is a bonus feature from the second season of Dragnet (a/k/a) Dragnet '68. This was originally filmed in 1966. But not showed to the public until 1969 as a made for TV movie.

  • @hugatag Shoot 'em. Wrap 'em up in a sheet. And then, drop their bloody carcass in the ocean; let the fish eat 'em.

  • You gutter mouth punk. Jack tells Rockwell everything except what the weather was that day and the direction the wind was blowing.

  • I have never seen this episode. I thought that I had seen all shows from the 1960's period of DRAGNET. Apparently not.

  • It's from the pilot film of the second version of Dragnet, filmed in late 1966 but not shown on TV for some odd reason until 1969.

  • 0:46 errr....sure.

  • Where is Joe Friday today? Dear God we need cops and DA's like this.

  • The reason we no longer have cops like this is because of the soft-hearted liberal agenda that's crept into our everyday lives over the years. As a result, law enforcement have had their hands tied more and more since the late 60's.

In simpler terms... this country has lost it's balls when it comes to crime and punishment. And as a result, every jackass who decides to commit a crime knows that the punishment will usually be far less than what is actually deserved.

  • EPIC WIN!

  • (The Late) Entertainer Jack Webb said it all. A smart ass punk like him should have received life imprisonment without parole for his crimes in California. He was a two-bit criminal who stunk to a new low. A Brilliant 5!! Even an aggravated battery of a child conviction would have sent him to prison permanently.

  • No, he shouldn't get life imprisonment. What he should have got was a good bullet to the back of the head that or a rope around the neck and good drop from a gallows, Both are quick, efficient, and cheap. Say what you will of captial punishment, I feel there are some crimes that no other punishment is appropriate, child molestation is one of them in my eyes.

  • from;LANCER. 01/03/14/2010 A.D.; THIS WAS DRAGNET,PAL,NOT GUNSMOKE.ANY WAY,SCREW THE DEATH PENALTY!

  • @chrismc410 HGWT5763. 06/10/29/2010 A.D. THE WILD WEST IS DEAD,LIFE IMPRISONMENT IS THE ONLY PUNISHMENT ANYONE NEEDS,NO MATTER WHO THEY ARE-TAKING HIS LIFE WILL NOT CHANGE ANYTHING AT ALL.

  • @chrismc410 - I can appreciate your sentiments here; and as much as I'd like to see vermin like this either swing or fry, I have a problem with the state imposition of such a punishment. I say put them in a maximum-security prison/labor camp where they're forced to work 80-100 hours per week with NO days off with the exception of maybe a holiday here or there. All other times they're toiling under a hot sun or in the freezing cold!

  • @thespeez The problem with that is the possibilities of escape and/or doing the same crime in prison to other inmates or staff. When the maximum sentence one can give is life without parole, such people get the idea that "There is nothing more they can do to me and I now have nothing to lose." Many a person has said the most dangerous thing in any society is the man with nothing to lose. Most people deep down inside have some fear of death. Some more suppressed than others, but still there.

  • @chrismc410 - That's why you subject them to confinement while in the system and if and when it's time to bring them out of their cell, they are either handcuffed or legironed or both! Anyone who gets out of line risks being shot on the spot! If a prisoner is so dangerous that s/he can't function outside his cell, then he can stay in solitary for weeks at a time and not see the light of day and get limited food rations.

  • @chrismc410 the elimination of the death penalty is not to protect criminals it is to protect the innocent

  • @chrismc410 I have to agree with you!

  • @chrismc410

    You're next.

  • @chrismc410 not unless he killed the child. But the crime in and of itself is not worthy of DEATH. Only killing deserves that. As the Bible says (which should be our authority as humans on every matter) > Genesis 9"6 'where it says 'if man sheds the blood of another then HIS blood shall be required of him by the hands of man." I don't think that could be much clearer. The Bible's authority, authenticity, accuracy and consistency pans out on every level whatsoever! But ANYway, our systems 2flawd

  • Too bad this did not happen at GITMO

  • We need more Joe Friday

  • Sgt. Friday without his coffee and smokes, don't make him kill you@!

  • imagin jack webb talkin to michael jackson!......

  • Would you rather take a verbal dressing down from Joe Friday or a flogging. I'd vote for the flogging. At least the scars from it will fade in time. The dressing down would last a lifetime.

  • did he say, "n***er, get your head up when im talking to you?!

  • No, he said "Now, get your head up when I'm talking to you!" It was Rockwell, the suspect who called the other detective a "n***er cop" when Friday lit into him.

  • I don't think so, I think it was just a bad edit.

  • It was a bad edit, but Friday never called the suspect a n***er. I happen to remember the film clip from watching it on AMC; in fact, I have that film on videotape.

  • jack webb would have been a shoe in as a d.a. imagine how much more safe la would be with people like webb

  • I love this scene. Some great lines came out of it.

"Get your head up when I'm talking to you!"

"Swallow a germ" (I won't repeat the rest.)

"Like every hood from Cain through Capone ..."

  • Friday should of told him how the other inmates at the jail feel about low-life child-molesters.

  • That is true,Bet that would have put the fear of God in him.

  • Excellent actor!

  • That's no quirk in the law. That is the law!

  • Was this clip from the Dragnet 66 movie, where this guy takes a woman in a house trailer way up somewhere-probably Topanga Cyn. and Friday and Gannon have to race against storms and time to save her , before the man pushes the trailer off a cliff? Is this that movie? I haven't seen it in it's entirity since 1982- that's why I ask. Good clip. Thanks for posting. Mike in Fresno, Ca.

  • Go get'em Joe!

  • Jack Webb and Harry Morgan both(!) in great new bio (Charlton Heston: An Incredible Life: Revised Edition)! The bio is for sale at amazon!

  • All the cops I have ever met worship Jack Webb's Joe Friday.

  • You're right.

  • I understand but not exactly agree with how you feel about Sgt. Joe. In many ways, he was kind of an "angry" Richard Nixon-like guy of the 60's/70's who used his show as proaganda against the counter-culture. But, the show you watched involved a child molester and a rapist murderer. I'll balance Joe being on the "right" side of good and evil for this show.

  • An angry Nixon in terms of his distaste for change? Prehaps. But Webb was revolutionary in his portrayal of black officers on his television shows. He gave them a real place...with real respect and equality.

  • I said he was like Nixon was at the time. He disliked the counter-culture and what was happening to the country.

I agree with you about Friday/Webb's treatment of minorities. He was a straight arrow; a guy was either bad or good. Color or ethnicity was irrelevant.

  • I didn't like the "Dragnet" episodes that focused on the counter-culture because Webb, like Joe Friday, saw everything in such a black-and-white way. However, I loved it when he caught a genuine criminal like in this scene. Friday really knows how to stick it to a career criminal.

  • nobody could deadpan the lines like Joe Friday! He's got a sense of humor, though...check him out with Carson on the Copper Clapper Caper!

  • Oh, the copper caper with cleaning woman Clara Cifford and Claude Cooper (I'm gonna clobber him) from Cleveland was definitely the best. Did you notice how well Jack Webb did keeping a straight face while Carson could'nt? That's a classic. Webb definitely was the best poker faced actor I ever saw.

  • *sigh* I just love Joe Friday.

    Is this on DVD?

  • Any guy with a rap sheet and prior time has been told his "rights" on about 50 prior occasions. Even if the arresting officers didn't read him his Miranda it's easy to document that he already knew from his prior run-ins OR from seeing it on TV like a million times in his life! ACLU P#ssies could care less about 4 year-old rape victims...

  • well spoken randy-----unless you are comatose or catatonic---you KNOW your miranda rights

  • If most people knew just how much damage has been done thanks to quirks in the law, they would crap their pants.

  • I think they couldn't even say "rape", during the original radio, and TV versions of Dragnet.

  • No tv or movie cop can match Jack Webb! No one!

  • That speech was EPIC!! I really loved the original "Dragnet" movie, and they rarely show it now. I wonder if the series (or the movie) is on DVD?

  • The first seasonis out on DVD. Shout Factory will release season two next year.

  • Sweet!!! ^___^ Thanks!

  • Dragnet was the BEST DAMN COP SHOW EVER!!!

  • How far "we've" come to reach "enlightenment" only finding a nightmare hidden in Pandora's Box. A nightmare warned of time & time again falling on deaf ears & apathy. A nightmare simple writers & gifted actors like Jack Webb warned us of illustrated in a character like Sgt. Joe Friday. A great show! Society doesn't like the taste of morals anymore- anything goes. It starts with simple things. As if the Bible, truth, right & wrong is all realative- and this creep Joes' grilling is the result.

  • I don't know of anybody who condones child molesters good speech though I had Jack Webb's voice in my head as i read it

  • Great Job....Joe Friday for President!!!

Dragnet 1966 is a hit with TV audiences all over again... According to the family scrapbook it was shot in March of 1966 and the pictures show a lot of smiles on the set. Dragnet was being revisited for

the 1960's...If Jack had lived, it would have also been reborn again as Dragnet 1983.

    The Family of Jack Webb

  • get some of his DNA, clone him, and make him Chief of EVERY police force in the country!!!!

    Joe Friday kicks ass!

  • Too bad they couldn't show Joe putting his .38 in that "smart mouth punk's" ear and pulling the trigger.

I know he has to stay within the law, but damn... Joe needs to kill some of this vile scum he encounters. Especially the child molesters, dammit!!

  • I only know of one shooting he was in. It was a laundry room, we went for cigarettes, and if I remember correctly, someone was robbing the machines, he stopped them, took a shot at him and he shot back, killing one of them. Had some kind of board of inquiry afterward.

  • Yeah, I remember that one. The episode was titled, "The Shooting Board". It actually made me think that Joe could lose his badge - until a crucial piece of evidence was discovered at the scene of the shooting to prove Joe innocent.

  • If we had cops today who interrogated suspects like Friday did, they would plead out on the spot. He is priceless.

  • Actually those kinds of interrogations don't work. For one thing judges tend to throw out confessions that appear to be coerced and for good reason. Under pressure sometimes people say things they don't mean.

  • As good as the "Law & Order" franchise have been, they all lack one thing, you guess it, Joe Friday

  • Was that Johnny Roseboro(the former LA Dodger catcher of the 60's)standing next to Webb??

  • Yes it was John Roseboro.

  • Is there a Jack Webb statue? If not ther should be! Dragnet has 'em all beat!

  • What a great show this is!

    Dragnet is still popular.

I remember when it was new.

They don't make good shows like that today.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • Jesus! This speech must be a page or a page and half long and Jack Webb says it all with believabilty and conviction. GET'EM FRIDAY!

  • He was reading it from a Teleprompter, but he still will always be the best of ALL TIME!

  • You're right. That's kind of sad. I wish I didn't know that.

  • Jack Webb is one of the best actor/producer/directors of his time. Too bad they can't make programs like this anymore. Dick Wolf tried, but just wasn't the same.

  • Dick Wolf is nowhere close to Jack Webb. "In Webb We Trust!"

  • I'd love to see a debate between Joe Friday and Barack Obama.

  • Barry wouldn't stand a chance! ;-)

  • "I've dealt with you before and every time it took a month to wash off the filth"!! "Look at me when I'm talkin' to you." "You've moved to the sewer, you're a child molester!" That twisted freak has been given such a dressing down he's quivering in his own excrement.

  • RIGHT ON!

  • In Webb We Trust!

  • Jack Webb always had these 'come to Jesus' speaches on Dragnet. Theye were the best part of the program.

  • The greatest show of all time, period. When right was right, and wrong was wrong. No secular logic here. The LAPD retired his badge number 714 and made him a honorary cop when he died in 1982. If only law enforcement were like this today. AWESOME. BTW. this is from the Pilot in 1966 which was not shown until 1969.

  • You're completely right!

  • amen!

  • god i miss the days when law enforcement got the right to treat criminals like what they are, we need to overturn miranda rights.

  • Miranda is a farce and only gives rights to criminals so they can plea out and walk ! What happened to the days of Joe Friday and Dirty Harry ? Bring em' back !

  • Cops have become corrupt pussies. They dont go by the books like they used to do. I see cops walking the streets with untucked uniforms for christ sakes. The cops from Law and Order, cant match up to Joe Friday.

  • dipshit

  • Do you have a problem with the constitution or just a problem with people knowing about it? Fact is 80% of people that are apprised of their rights, meaning htey were arrested formally and given the warnings, waive them and give statements. Miranda is to protect the innocent, not the guilty. Fact is the public perception of a cop out is a myth. All statements are admissible unless the warning was not given.

    Source for 80% waiver.

    Miranda's Waning Protections, UofMich.Press pg 76

  • I just have a problem with people knowing about The Constitution . More people should be reading it word from word and understand it's meaning ! Miranda is one the best tools law enforcement can use . I know that because my father was a police officer !

  • from;LANCER.01/03/14/2010 A.D.; THE LAW IS THE LAW,BROTHER,YOU ARE PRESUMED INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY,NO MATTER WHAT.BESIDES,DIRTY HARRY IS NOT A REAL PERSON AND JACK WEBB IS GONE AWAY FROM THIS LIFETIME FOR GOOD,REMEMBER,HE WAS AN ACTOR PLAYING A TRUE TO LIFE COP,NOTHING MORE AND NOTHING LESS!

  • notice how he ripped the guy a new ass. and didn't swear one time. thats good writting and good acting. Dragnet was kind of preachy but good tv non the less.

  • He couldn't swear anyway--it was 1967...

  • yes you could swear to a slight degree. notice at the end he says" you damn well..."

they just knew how to use swear words back then. for effect not for dialog.that to me is good writting.

  • And less than 2 years later, Steve McQueen introduced us to 'bullshit' at Robert Vaughn's expense in' Bullitt', the rest is history

  • yes...good old steve mcqueen and bullitt.was that really over 40 years ago?

  • Right On.

  • Damn this guy is good! I remember they used to show Dragnet on Nick at Night, never missed an episode

  • You spelled "Nite" wrong.

  • Neither did I. Grew up watching this and "Adam 12" as a kid. Great stuff!

  • God bless Joe Friday. No flimsy moral relativism, thank you so much!! More such posts please!

  • ...so Webb immediately went into series production {"DRAGNET 1967"} in November 1966. The movie was "shelved" until NBC finally aired it in January 1969.

  • That's right, 'Mark'. The movie "pilot" for the new series went into production as "Dragnet 1966", and was to have been shown on one of NBC's movie nights that fall- but then, there was a "hole" in the network's Thursday night schedule when "THE HERO" was cancelled. The co-sponsors of that show, R.J. Reynolds and Lever Brothers, wanted to sponsor a new "DRAGNET" series for January 1967....

  • Dang, one heck of a rant!

  • TV execs should put on these types of shows on today's tube. Doesn't show today's gore but still gets the point across about police work and the things they have to go through to solve crimes. I watch Dragnet whenever a rerun is on.

  • Scumbag deserves to die. Getum Joe

  • from;LANCER. 01/03/14/2010 A.D.;NO ONE EVER DESERVES TO DIE,MY FRIEND.THAT IS UP TO THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY,NOT YOU OR ME OR ANYONE ELSE,IF I HAVE OFFENDED YOU BY SAYING THAT,GOOD!

  • @HGWT5763 There are people who deserve to die. Read the Bible before you try to tell people anything about God. When Jesus was on the cross, it was the thief who said he deserved to die for his crimes and asked Jesus for forgiveness that was the one who went to heaven.

  • @twieneke76 HGWT5763. 04/08/10/2011 A.D. ONLY GOD CAN GIVE A LIFE,ONLY GOD CAN TAKE IT AWAY! I DONT CARE WHO YOU ARE,GOD AND ONLY GOD IS THE SUPREME JUDGE.

  • What year is this from?

  • This is 1966. This was from the world premiere movie that was filmed that year but was not aired until 1969; the execs at NBC liked this movie so much that they asked Jack Webb to do another series, which, of course, became "Dragnet 1967" and so on until 1970.

  • It's only a matter of time before they "get" this one, but man, I'm thankful for this poster for these great cop monologues.

  • In Webb We Trust!!!!

  • From the feature length movie, which was made before the 1967 series started, then finally aired on NBC in the winter of '69. Classic!

  • Another great Webb video. I really appreciate these. Thanks so much for posting. These mean a lot to many of us.
