The challenge was to get to the moon, not set up a lunar Mt. Palomar. This is changing the goal posts of the mission and then pointing a finger at NASA for not reaching a goal they had never set for themselves in the first place.

Thats not correct...we still do not have a telescope powerful enough to see the flag, or the landing modules left behind...The Russians had developed the technology to "possibly" monitor activity on the surface of the moon on objects in orbit of it sometime in the early 70's...Just when the missions stopped.
It was all colour, except that transmitted via the small antenna on the Apollo 11 LM which did not provide enough bandwidth. From Apollo 12 they took a large satelite dish on each mission which was set up near the LM, so that the surface footage was colour too.
The bit about the earth and the staged footage is Sibrel's best evidence. Too bad for him if that was the earth in low orbit the land masses of earth would be much clearer. That is most definitely a shot of the earth some 100k+ miles away.

the second appolo landing did have enough bandwidth but for a mistake the one at the camera (which i cant remember who was) pointed it at the sun.
not a long time but enough to break the lens and destroying all color.
