ok couple of questions. when you were cutting the caps you only cut one side at a time. Reason? And second does the finish inside the bore make that much difference since the bearing is gonna cover it up anyway? Not knocking your work just wondering.
It's basically a way to make the big end bore "smaller" so we can cut it to perfect round again.
Yes! the bore makes a HUGE difference since the bearing not only needs to be round, but the surface of the rod it "rests" on needs to be just as perfectly round.

Whats the chances of the small and big ends being parallel to each other, and perpendicular to the rod beam, when honeing by hand.... slim

I have had Putney do all my motor stuff and he is a badass! not many go as far as him even on a normal build.
