Funny difference about a model and the real thing. In the real thing, setting down in a corn field is kind of nice, really cushions things nicely. Doing that with a model is a bit of a disaster. Having said that... still costs less to do it with a model. Have you boys seen what a constant velocity prop brings these days?

@Hirbod2007 ....da du wohl weist was statik ist kannst du dir sicher vorstellen was das bedeutet wenn ein zweiblatt auf einmal ein ein blatt schraube ist ...was da für kräfte am motor auftreten ich sag mal das jeder motor sofort abbricht...das war kein statik fehler das war einfach nur pech.....aber der kameramann der hatte richtig glück das es zu der zeit abgebrochen ist wo das blatt gerade unten war er hätte richtig alt ausgesehen wenn er es vorm kopf bekommen hätte

@NabelZiel Sure it is. If you are an avid enthusiast in the hobby (which I have been for 40 years) then you have to learn to dust yourself off and laugh at your mishaps. Not to say that it is fun to crash your own model, it sucks. But it comes with the territory and you have to learn to accept that. After the shock, it becomes entertainment. I would love to watch a video of my own screw-ups.

Its the Era of RTF and ARF models. So 80% buy his palnes ready and doesnt even know the airfoil of his planes.

I left the hobby years ago and that was one of the reasons. I was in house for months building and when I was ready I had to be carrefull of the RTF morrons who didnt bother about others property.

I wouldn't mind building a plane from a kit or scratch but in the end it will cost just as much if not more than an ARF when you factor in all the parts needed to complete the kit. So I beg the question, why spend all of that extra time and effort in a build if it won't be any cheaper?

Its true. Especially in recent years you can find electric models complete with rectracts at a very low cost. (Its another story the quality and how long they last ).

Nevertheless there are two kind of RC modelers, those who only fly and those like me who are always dreaming their next scratch built airplane. Every foto of a real airplane and every sound of a plane make them imagining the next unique ( one of a kind) model.

@gmccord1970 The main reason for building your own isn't to save money, it 's to have something unique at the flying field as well as being able to take satisfaction from having built something that actually flies! The other side is that if you prang it, you know how it was put together so it is easier to fix.

The downside is the emotional investment made while building.

I do both, I have ARF's and build as well. I enjoy the engineering that goes into building while flying the ARFs.
