cds are much cheaper and denon cdj platters simulate vinyl turntables so the scratching is similar.

there is a certain resistance with the platter and the slip mat which is not recreated on controller decks or atleast not well at all. There are certain scratches you possibly can not preform due to the nature of the controller deck. Using a small platter is also extremely easy and is similar to using tiny vinyl records like a story book record, this is considered cheating when it comes to turntables so the same applies with a tiny platter. Using a small record is faster with less resistance.
