this hole is nothing in the scheme of things in the mining world. What you see from above, is next to nothing that is happening under you. Check out the holes at Mt Tom Price or kalgoorlie in west australia. have a look at some real open cut mines. I personally have driven to the bottom of the odd open cut, then gone down in a portal that goes down way further in underground.

I have lived in Utah since 1992, and have watched that company mow down the tops of 3 mountains as part of the whole copper mine expansion.
