  • I was there that night!

  • It is great to know that indeed we are all one people

  • There are lots of Jews who LOVE Gospel music but cannot relate to the music. Joshua has simply created a way for Jews to apply Jewish liturgy to the style of Gospel music. One thing I've learned from Josh is that you can be a Christian, a Jew, Muslim, Buddhist-the list goes on and on....we should all respect one another's differences and be allies. Peace be with you.

  • I know Joshua and he is a great guy who just wanted to combine his love of Gospel music into his faith. HE IS JEWISH! I just want to make this clear. Joshua Nelson was BORN Jewish. Folks do your research. Black jews have been here from the very beginning and this should not offend anyone. You should embrace all people whether they're Jewish, Christian , muslim, Buddhist...

  • HALLELU-YAH TO THE LAMB OF GOD

  • wow! great!

  • Terrific music and idea!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great Jewish Music. Music is Music. What makes Music Jewish? The lyrics!!! Those who insist that Real Jewish has to be of any particular style are separatists and true racists. Joshua's Jewish Music allows the essence of Judaism to escape the box that has trapped her for generations. This music will bring us closer to "THE ONE" who is the sum of us all Jew and Non-Jew, white and black, Muslim, Christian, if you want to go back in the box, go ahead, but don't hinder me!!!

    Sing Joshua!!!!

  • Joshua Nelson is one of a kind and I wish there were more of him. He brings a breath of fresh air to Jewish music.

    This prayer begins

Eternal L-rd, who reigns before everything was form was created

At the time when His will made everything

Then his royal name was proclaimed

It's part of the early morning prayers and is used to conclude Sabbath services in synagogue.

  • Well I know Joshua Nelson and I myself am studying to be a Karaite Jewish Hakham! I'm also very much "black" in addition, Joshua has been Jewish his entire life!

  • WTF - this is brilliant - love it!!!!!!!!!!

  • Please translate.

  • AARRRGGGHHH I was there that night, it was fantastic!!

  • great version i love gospel you should check out "Sinnerman" by Nina Simone if you like this kind of music

  • Oh My! In the 21st Century there are still people who don't know that Judism is a lifestyle and that the ethnicity of a Jew spans the color spectrum. Obviously they also don't realize that Yeshua HaMashiach(Jesus The Messiah) was a Jew. He is the living Torah/Word in the beginning... Yochanan/John 1:1-5 Many of my Jewish brothers & sisters don't recognize Him because western/christian theology has striped him of His TRUE identity!!

  • I don't disagree with you about Christ's Faith/Ethnicity. I would only ask you to consider that true Christianity has been some of the most ardent supporters of Israel/Jewish people. They realize that God will bless those who Bless Israel. If your friends don't recognize Him, maybe they should study the Torah more? Peace and Thank God for His Son Christ, King of the Jews and Savior to the world.

  • I respect your faith but Jews don't need to be told who their real friends are.

  • omg

do they even know what they're singing???

  • why would you ask a question like that. I do know many Jews that sing songs they dont understand but these people do know. How could they sing with so much conviction and not understand. The question you really wanted to ask pertains to their color. IF we could only get past Racism. Yes, Judaism and being Jewish is not a Race, but their are idiots that believe this. The King of this being Hitler himself. SO becareful about the questions you ask. Educated people may make assumptions of you.

  • Yeah, you don't have to know the meaning of a song to sing it with conviction. It sounds the same as every other gospel-style song. They just used new words.

  • shim2dawg common wtf???

  • I saw Joshua Nelson in concert a few years ago in Toronto. Moments before he took the stage, the power in the synagogue went out. The show must go on and when Joshua sings two songs in Hebrew, the sanctuary remained in darkness. Then he sings a few bars to "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot. Lights are back on!

Joshua is definitely worth seeing in concert if you have the opportunity.

  • this is pretty cool! i am a baptist christian, so i know this style of music well. i know that christianity is a "spin off" of judaism, so they are related. i like this even if i don't understand hebrew language!

  • Joshua Nelson, you are awesome!

  • MY NAME IS ADON!

  • woohoo I was at this concert front row!! This concert was exactly one year and a day after I saw Joshua Nelson for the first time in concert at the Jewish Memorial Museum when on holiday in New York!! This concert was at Limmud only 14 miles from where I live in England

  • You sing it brother!

  • wow. I am an african american converting to Judaism. Soon as he said "Adon" I was BLOWN AWAY!!! He sounds like Mahalia Jackson singing in Hebrew. It a perfect blend of my own culture and beliefs. wow.

  • Yes, I am jewish too. btw, Joshua Nelson is jewish. He grew up being jewish and sings hebrew songs with a gospel twist.

Inspirational isnt it? Yeah, the first time i heard him sing i was like HES AMAZING!!

  • If you are undergoing a legitimate conversion, you will soon learn that your own "culture and beliefs" will be distincly Jewish, which is based on the Torah and nothing else. There are a plethora of beautiful and unique customs according to region, but all share a common "culture and belief"...that is the Torah.

  • @neutral4 I disagree. There is so many aspects of judaism that are pure minhag. And after feeling isolated for so many years in a jewish community that does not accept me, i want to form my own customs and my own community. Apart from those who do not want me.

  • @moolah55729 by writing that i can tell u rock

  • @moolah55729 Keep Messiah Yeshua in the Halakha.

  • @moolah55729 I don't know if you have/did convert. But there are plenty of African American Jews in the USA. We are in Mainstream Judaism.Ultra- Orthodox, Modern Orthodox, Conservative/Masorti, Reform, and Recontructionist. If they are not on the above list run! It could be a Cult. Do the research, speak to a Rabbi, etc. We have a group on facebook Jews of Color. Please read Kehila Black Jewish Magazine. If you are already Jewish Mazel Tov!

  • @moolah55729 > yes, he is amazing. and btw - not a convert. born jewish. like me. a black jewish girl from canada :-)

  • @moolah55729 I agree...I was hoping there was some music out there that fits me too. Thank G-d I've found it! Shalom

  • Saw Joshua Perform at the URJ Biennial in San Diego this week. What a blast!!!!

  • Let's just enjoy his talents without having to proselytize.

  • Lo YAchalif Ha-Kel v'lo yamir daso

  • I saw him yesterday at Fox in atlanta, too - he had everyone up and going -- it was amazing! :)

i wouldn't do it in shul, but the feeling is awesome :)

    yael

  • I saw Joshua Nelson yesterday at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta. What an experience.

Listen, I'm fairly traditional. I put on tefillin every day, and I daven with all the old, familiar tunes. But if we can't make room in our traditions for someone like Joshua Nelson, with all that amazing ruach (spirit), shame on us. Powerful stuff!

  • Joshua Nelson, oh my goodness, I've been looking for you. I want to know how much it would cost to have you come to your hometown (Essex County - New Jersey)or even Hudson County. I saw you one day at Forman Mills and another time at the Brickchurch Shop Rite. You music is what I love.

  • I don't know what to make of this. Sure, there's room for the Joshua Nelsons and Debbie Friedmans, but call me a sucker for traditional Carlebach tunes.

  • @DevilInPgh This is why we need the diversity of Jewish Music so that all Jews feel comfortable within their tradition. The style of Gospel Music, even in Hebrew, may feel foreign to you, because this is musically not your tradition. But there are Jews who understand the SOUL in this Music, and now feel satisfied to experience Jewish Music in the Soul style, by Jews for Jews and not needing to borrow and Kosher songs from a lyrical CHristian tradition.

  • Brilliant! This is now one of my favorite versions of the Adon Olam.

  • Nice!

  • amazing!

  • this is an insult to a beautiful song!

  • Clearly amgatorschai knows nothing of spirituality

  • this guy is great

  • Adon Olam like you've never heard it! Neil

  • Wow I am starting conversion classes in September and have been looking into Jewish music. Coming from a Evangelical church and Christian religion, this is just my style. It is all I am used to. I have to get this guys music on my ipod!
