  • dude, those "firefighters" waited waaaaay to long to drag them out of that road!

  • @bobwatters i agree very noble, but hes actually just rotting in the ground

  • This is a training video for police on a HAZ-MAT situation, nobody was actually harmed in this video.

  • @countrysfucked. "smoke" and gas tank ..at that point he should have waited for the appropriately trained personnel to arrive ..once someone tries to do something without the proper equipment or training, it usually ends in catastrophe(that's like a firefighter responding to a domestic violence call unarmed and untrained lol)

  • @countrysfucked...the firefighters were"delaying" their response to organize and put their Scott packs on because they didn't want to breathe in the hazardous material...the first things firefighters and emt's are trained in is SCENE SAFTEY, and when there is an OBVIOUS leak in a gas tank they had to take extra precautions to ensure that no one died that didn't have to. So before you try to make the firefighters look bad, analyze the fucking scene first.....the police officer obviously saw the

  • Fuck me man. What a way to go... Breathing in ammonia is painful

  • I only wish this officer had a NIOSH pocket guide to chemical hazards and knew how to use it and find out what he's dealing with. Law enforcement should learn to read the placards and know what they mean. Also keep a guide in their units at all times.

  • I believe all law enforcement should be trained in Haz-Mat, 99% of the time a law enforcement officer is the first to arrive on a Haz-Mat incident. This officer would still be alive today if he had the right training, I pray for him and his family.

  • wow i would feel real bad if i was one of those firefighters. Their delay in tending to this officer may have cost him his life. RIP HE was a hero at least.

  • The trooper did not die. Yes, he shouldn't have ran in there like that, but he survived.

  • bobwatters you can go die. he deserved it for all the wrongs done to the littel peolpe he abused his whole life. rest in pain.

  • @MrRussiancoma how do oyu know he did that? not every cop is an asshole, just the ones who make it onto youtube. oyu wanna get rid of the police force? you ar elegally retarded

  • @MrRussiancoma Actually idiot, there are loads more good police officers then bad. The media only shows the bad. So how about putting stupid comments you instead thank the police for not allowing criminals to come into your house kill you and your family.

  • Screw these faceless, nameless people who feel the need to be internet jackasses because they never got enough attention or love at home. This guy was a hero... RIP officer.

  • @Halocuber and you sir are one piece of shit individual. May you "rot in hell"

  • @SportsFreakfrom94598 Go fuck yourself.

  • @SportsFreakfrom94598 God, are you really that ignorant or just uneducated and stupid?

  • One of our sayings in haz-mat training unfortunately is look for down police officers. They don't receive the amount of haz-mat training they need to recognize just how dangerous that situation was. RIP

  • omfg D: and we clean our windows wwith that shit : \

  • Wow... this is soo bad

  • i heard it was a training video. something did seem weird about the way things happened.

  • Gotta make sure the scene is safe. I'm sure he knew that he just didn't think. Even for you as a police officer. You're no good to anyone if you dies yourself. That sucks. RIP brother.

  • fuck. rip bro. he tried.

  • my uncle also died trying to save someones life and a third man died trying to save my uncle

  • I personally can not stand the attitude that LEO has taken on in our country, and do not consider them "hero's" in general. Ask any cop what their number one concern and job priority is and they will tell you it is their own safety - and the safety of fellow officers. This officer was an exception - sad to see him loose his life trying to save someone.

In my local area LEO will not even touch someone that is bleeding or unconscious. That is Fire/EMT's job :(

  • cops may wanna consider adding a gas mask to their duty bag.... this was a shame

  • was gonna comment on this video but then thought better of it.

  • i hate cops and love the sound of bagpipes. but even i'll admit, i hate to see a cop go out like this, in a rare instance where they actually have good intentions.

  • @hellacrunk1 i agree with ya this is one rear event where a cop was trying to do right by somone

  • It baffels me, there are comments on here about the FD taking too long to reach the downed officer and other victim. They put their emotions in check, stopped looked and listened, put on the proper PPE and went in right. Exposing themselves to a deadly gas or possible BLEVE whould have downed the FD. Dead firefighters help no one!

  • its cute the cloud cleared just as fd arrived. def a training video

  • I doubt that this is a real video. Looks like a training vid to me. FD didn't have the right approach or time to properly identify the spill before they charged into it. No attempt was made to set up the quarantine either.

  • I can tell you right now...if this was a real ammonia leak...that cop wouldn't have been able to take a single breath as he walked through the cloud....been there, done that when an ammonia tank exploded at an icecream plant. No friggin way....that, and the "properly trained" FD was parked WAY to close for identifying a hazmat situation. I would need the rest of the video to be convinced of authenticity.

  • dead or not it only took the fd 5 min,s to get to him,, in 5 min,s a lot can happen,

  • annhydrous ammonia VERY DANGEROUS

  • He is not dead. It's just a training video on HAZMAT by Illinois State Police.

  • What kind of gas was that ???

  • Rip brave man. This could have happened to anybody, it could have been you driving along and coming across that situation and I bet a good deal of well meaning people would have made that same mistake in the heat of the moment. We are lucky that this guy had a camera so that we could learn from his mistake. Makes me laugh how many people show disrespect because this guy is a cop. He would have got just as little respect if he'd kept his distance and waited for help.

  • Lmfao!!!!!!:) couldnt b happier

  • @spareaxe so what send five f/f in without scba and no water fog so they can collapse too. Yeah that'd be a great move. I hope that if you a f/f or wannabe that you never oic and make a stupid decision.

  • In the Russian Military they trained us not to be that stupid... but its in America, so enough said... Sad though...

  • @fleecyboy l really hope that you just don't realise that , .. always been pretty much like your friend said : damn if you do ,.. damn if you don't,.. nothing new here !.. yes! he died fast, .. ammonia burn his lungs in about 10 secs , he was pretty much fuck from the first breath of ammonia .

  • Shame this guy had tunnel vision. He didn't have to die. He had to run right past the overturned tank, which almost certainly had DOT placards on it, which would have told him he was dealing with serious HAZMAT. RIP man.

As my HAZMAT instructor beat into our heads back in the Academy, "Up hill, Up wind, and if it's too dangerous...Up yours!" That was 1993.

  • firefighter's taking their fucking sweet time.

  • Wow how sad

  • What a damn bummer :(

  • this officer died trying to save someone life thats as noble as it gets. may his soul rest in peace im sure he is in heaven looking down on his family.

  • @bobwatters noble my foreskin, he was just an idiot to run into that gas cloud.

  • @bobwatters Um.. You really think heaven is looking down on your family? Dumb ass. Thats hell. Every day a person is taken from there mom or dad is like terrorism

  • @bobwatters you are right but how can you say he died s a hero, im not sure he would have runned in there if he knew what waited that poor fellow.

  • @bobwatters

It is a noble act to die trying to save some one but I'm afraid this is a tragedy more than anything. I'm not sure the officer was fully aware of the severity of the situation.. I don't think anyone in their right mind would walk into a toxic cloud of gas to check up on what looks like a corpse. Still tho.. brave man, lost his life in the line of duty. May he rest in peace.

  • fucking hell that shit kills fast! RIP

  • someone missed HAZMAT training

  • @millertime60 "Rule of thumb"

  • The cop ran in without a respirator, and died, so he is given the title of hero. If he stood away in safety he would have been branded a coward, but he would have survived. So, the cop would be a loser whatever he did.

  • @fleecyboy As the old saying goes...damn if you do, damn if you don't. It's a shame but that's the shit that officers has to go thru.

  • Brave officer, definitely a Hero! Wish he had been trained.

What really bothers me is the response time of the 'firefighters'. ALL one of them had to do was quickly don a respirator, turn the air on, and get that officer out of there.

Statement was made that the mike was cutting off, because of the officer's chest raising and lowering, as he labored breathing.

HE WAS ALIVE WHEN THE BOOBS WERE GETTING DRESSED!!

Had ONE of them went to his aid he might have made it!

  • @MrJoecoolsvette

I am surely thinking just the same as you. Why the hell did not one firefighter get his mask on, and drag the cop fifty feet away and then administer oxygen?

  • He should have recognized the tanktainer that had hazmat placards on it and realized that there was a hazmat spill and should have backed away from the scene and stay upwind. His intentions were to help but he ignored the obvious. Sad.

  • @daroche1 I AGREE, AT LEAST HE COULD HAVE RECOGNIZED THAT THERE WAS A CLOUD OF VAPOR IN THE AIR THAT COULD BE HAZARDOUS AND POSSIBLY TAKEN A BIG BREATH AND HELD IT AS HE DRAGGED THE GUY AWAY, HE SHOULD BE ABLE TO HOLD HIS BREATH FOR AT LEAST TWO MINUTES IF HE IS IN SHAPE ENOUGH TO BE A COP. NOT VERY SMART.

  • WOW I realy wonder If he knew there was a risk like that. Go with god hero.

  • I thought officers were issued gas masks I know the ones in my town are.

  • i used to work around anhydrous ammonia holy shit is it nasty deadly stuff i get one whiff of that crap and i run in the opposite direction. my dad almost died while working at a farm fertilizer facility. its so bad anybody who has breathed one bit of anhydrous ammoina know very well how awful it would be to die from it *RIP*

  • This man knew he was risking his life when he ran into that cloud to try to save another person...he was so very unselfish! He ignored the 1st rule that we, as ems personnel, police, and firefighters are taught...scene safety! For that he is a hero in my book. All u idiots with negative comments, I hope u r never in a life threatening situation & need help! Ur comments may just come back to bite u in the ass! RIP Sir!

  • @noregrets1107 HE WASN'T REALLY MUCH HELP, BUT THE GUY WAS PROBABLY DEAD BEFORE THE COP GOT THERE TO 'HELP'.

  • Aside from the stupid comments. To all LEO'S out there. Please do not run into a situation that your not aware of. His first thought like a good cop was to run in and start saving but it clearly killed him so fast he coudn't even get away. When he started coffing it was allready to late. I have worked both as an officer and a Hazmat specialist there are things out there that can take you that fast. This was very sad to see. I wanted to jump through the screen to save him.

  • This is a sad video, the officer was trying to save the man that was on the ground, as sad as this one is, this is one example of the officer making the attempt to "Protect and Serve" My condolences to his friends and family.

  • I feel that I need to give this man an excerpt from my poem "Tribute To Ol' Sweetness" by T.L.G. "At times ruff 'n tuff got you by, but deep w/in Dolphins make you cry. That which you kept & stored, Can now be given to Your Lord. For in death you were not defeated, At the Right Hand of God, Sir...go & be seated". 4 risking his life to help another in dire need...I give him this blessing & soulful acknowledgement(s). Namaste & God Be w/his loved ones.

  • thatz some of the funniest shit i ever saw .

  • @therealcnoevil I no you say that kind of shit just to piss people off and if you think a hero dying is funny then your the one that should be dead not him.I hope i can be at least half the man he was. May god be with his loved ones and the loved ones of the truck diver may they rest in peace.

  • @bigdogford1 fig

  • To save a life , he lost his life...and its so sad that someone's tragedy can be a source of wisdom to train everybody years to come, so this tragedy won't occur again. Lets say if that officer was a pedestrian who came to help that person and he died during his rescue, are we gonna make fun of him or just because he is a cop. A cop can be your dad..mom..sister...brother or a friend...so stop stereotyping cops and lets say it could be you on the floor who was in need for a cop's help.

  • This guy did not die instantly. Thats completely wrong, though its nice to believe he didn't suffer... he in fact suffered and slowly suffocated, you can hear him wheezing and struggling to breathe before he went unresponsive, continued with shallow breathing and then died. It was not a pretty way to die.

  • *** this material is Anhydrous Amonia

  • one less cop in the world i see

  • @FrostCCCP

That ocean is there because you faggots stink, and we don't want to have to look at your goddamn teeth.

  • It's so sad and heart wrenching..... especially hearing his last breaths... my heart goes out to him and to his family. Gosh I hate watching videos like these. Went from cop heroes to this. It goes to show how good yet bad life can turn out to be...

  • Rule #1 scene safety!

  • sad man...rIp

  • FAKE!!

  • @MyHolly93 Are you serious? not at all. This video is used al around the country in hazmat classes for Firefighters, Emt/paramedics, law enforcement, etc.

  • @WIFire10 My father is a fire lieutenant who works for the Fire & Rescue training academy near Washington DC. He was tasked with showing this video to recruits as part of their training on hazardous materials. After watching this man "die" 30 times in a row, he decided to contact the Illinois State Police to inquire about the incident.

As it turns out, everything depicted in this video is entirely staged for training purposes. The officer is simply acting.

  • @SeedsOfHatred Nevertheless, it depicts a real world situation. I know of a fellow who was working on an asbestos abatement job in an old amonia refrigeration plant. He sprayed some water on a refrigerant site glass, the glass shattered and amonia was released. He survived, but is not in very good shape. I did not think a dashcam video of an incident like this would ever be released publicly, but the lesson is well made here.

  • @SuperOffgrid True, however, my response was to his insistance that this video was not faked. Not on the nature of the lesson to be taken from it.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA idiot :'D

  • soo its not real

  • @MyOscarMeyerIsOnFire Who said it isn't? It happend.

And now it's used as a example WHY you shouldn't do that.

  • Damn ive breathed in just a wiff of that before at work. Shit BURNS. Nothing to be around

  • This is just a training video folks. This didn't really happen

  • @ctmedica504 you are stupid this did happen. the department uses it has a training to show new recuits what dangers they could face doing to job

  • @ctmedica504 This is as real as it gets this man Died because he was not trained right and didn't know what he was running into as a firefighter that has seen this in training and spoke with people that knew this officer I can't belive there are people saying this is fake this officer Died a hero

  • @firecolin It's sad that this even happend. This shows me that Officer's should be given gas mask, to use if needed.

  • @MrGerolf That would't be effective with this type of chemical vapor, you would need a SCBA system (self contained breathing apparatus) which firefighters use, that weighs about 35 pounds, and is pretty costly. The eaiser and more cost effective alternative is training law enforcement in recognizing and avoiding this type of situation in the first place. That exactly what law enforcement agencies have been doing since the late 1990's.

  • @WIFire10 So, the best way they should handle something like this, is to call in the FD? That sounds like a good idea to me, because they save lives too, and that officer would still be around. I think the police just don't want to, they want to do it all by themselves. Thank you for the info man, I'm glad to know this.

  • @firecolin I GUESS HE WAS A HERO, BUT NOT TO THE GUY HE WAS 'HELPING'. HE MIGHT HAVE BEEN MORE OF A HERO IF HE WOULD HAVE USED HIS BRAIN A BIT.

  • @firecolin at any rate, a pig died, be happy and watch the video some more :)

  • @Runkleforskin You are an idiot!

  • @Runkleforskin Eat shit.

  • @Runkleforskin You sir are one sick human and should have your head checked this cop died trying to help the man that was laying in the road. I infact was burnt this week by annhydrous ammonia this shit is very dangerous this cop was not trained properly but I have been and still got burnt.

  • RIP Brave soul.

  • did he not smell the ammonia, what a dumb fuck

  • @jdrury what if you were the victim here, i dont know about you but i would like someone to try to save me. if you see in the video he tried to pull him from the smoke. every one is not a pussy like you. this is a man doing his job and attempted to save someones life he didnt know.

  • He thought it was smoke poor guy...terrible way to go but I think he's family along with decent people are very proud of him.

  • Poor guy....very very sad to see

  • Good lord, this is terrible.

  • Fuck da 5 0 ja ja ja

  • @CHOLOAKAPELON22 Shut the fuck up you uneducated spic. dont you have someone fruit that needs to be picked

  • @CHOLOAKAPELON22

dont you have drugs to smuggle in the country or tunnels to dig??

  • You are so right. Nh3 instantly takes your breath away and you fight to get air back in. You literally suffocate if you can't get to fresh air quick. And has a boiling point well below zero so it instantly freezes anything that the liquid contacts when its not under pressure.

  • It's a shame the officer wasn't trained better. I have been exposed to spilled ammonia, you cant hold your breathe and just pull the man to safety. It burns every orifice in you face. Your eyes, nose mouth and you cant do anything but get the hell out or never go there in the first place. You need a special respirator or SCBA to be near spilled ammonia.

  • just run up hold your breath and drag the guy out...

  • Wow poor guy just doing his job. A thankless job for sure. Rest in Pease dude.

  • so sad, poor guy.

  • sad

  • lmao, herp a derp

  • hey really wtf...... how can you guys be like that to some guy that was trying to save someone ? really you fuckers need to see what its like outside our country. cops would never do that shit.....spoiled ass infants...its easy to say shit online without ever doing anything in your lives.

  • @rbravatti and what have you done?

  • @MH1371 well.. i have 30 months time in iraq....ive lead over 30 men into combat..the first 15 before i could legally drink..ive done trama care on over 50+ ppl.... help my friend when his leg blew off when i was 19...he is alive btw.....I have not done much i just turned 24. but i have plenty of time to do more.i just hope i become a real man like this officer before i go out...all my point is show a little respect.his family and co-workers could be reading your disrespectful comments.

  • @rbravatti i didnt said nothing but now i will. i like seeing yoru ramble on here like a woman. i to have been to iraq and afghanistan twice all back to back. i have been blown up twice and received the purple heart and so on and so and so on. i also think its funny how you dont call yourself a real man.....

  • @MH1371 Nobody believes your bullshit, kiddo.

  • @MH1371 hey you asked me lady not the other way around. its called being humble but we can tell who you are with comments like these on a video like this. you should go back because it looks like you learned nothing there.

  • @rbravatti ha you are a joke boot bitch.

  • @MH1371 lol what does that me mam? what is your point to all this ? what is your end goal? you are full of shit and it looks like its not just me that thinks it. Define: boot bitch?

  • @rbravatti they have to save people it is their fucking job. I would run to help someone and I am not even a cop/ems whatever. However, I have had enough hazmat training to know that if you see a tank like that leaking gas or liquid all over the fucking place you do not go near it even if you see a victim.

  • @jdrury ok you may have doenst mean all cops have gone to the training. ppl get ejected from cars all the time and he just grabed his med bag and ran over . it looked like smoke his blood was prob pumping. a fucking ammonia truck doesnt crash everyday in his town either im sure.....plus listen to what he said children that judge things they never have done...."it looks like some kind of fire". he says that as he drives up.

  • @PaternusHentai I hope someone kils you slowly and painfully you stupid fuck!!! Who would even think something like that!!

  • people let this be a lesson when you see an accident stay the hell away.

  • This a sad way for anyone to die. Ammonia is bad stuff and nothing to mess around with. Look how quickly the officer succumbed to it.

  • Comment removed

  • @prallday168 if the "pigs" deserve this...then your going to get even worse. Oh, god don't exist and never did and there is no heaven or hell. So since you have no respect for the police, have fun serving time in jail when you get caught breaking the law. ASSHOLE!!!!

  • i feel sorry for him i think they should trainning more cop for situation like that with hazard chemicals

  • Police Can murder all day long.. No one stands up. they save one person, They are a HERO.. They kill more, Save little if at all. Infact most of its for SHOW. So people wont question GOV

  • @adam3176 not all cops are fucking bad and they dont just go kill people stop over exaggerating!

  • how much more cops dies?

  • Yeah I did maintenance for a hospital and one time 2 of the cleaning persons decided to play a joke on me using dry ice from the lab... they took it back to their small locker room which had a small sink to wash mops, they dumped it in the sink and turned on the water,,, the small room quickly filled with mist and they paged me, as soon as I opened the door and saw the mist, I slammed the door shut and reached for the fire alarm and had the operator call 911, 2 people got fired that day... oops.

  • @tikolyko I was fairly new at the Hospital and didn't know exactly all the chemicals the lab handled, maintenance was not in charge of lab chemical issues so I did not bother to familiarize my self with the chemicals... but having worked at places like Intel, I knew that a room full of mist could be very very bad news even if no fire alarm was going off... so I quickly ran to a "safe" spot and called it in... poor cleaning guys never had a chance to chase after me... CODE TRIAGE INTERNAL!! lol.

  • @tikolyko holy crap haha lol

  • @Radiohead420DJ To bad that wasnt one of your family members he was trying to rescue, you dumb ass.

  • @Radiohead420DJ you piece of shit...your whore of a mother should have aborted you with a rusty coat hanger.

  • @lagtat1 actually, virgin mary should have aborted with a rusty coat hanger, so that way old jesus wouldnt have been born.

  • Sad!

  • you see a hazmat triangle , you see the smoke and victims. Why did you approach the scene and expose yourself to the same thing that killed them?

  • My job just had a ammonia leak. Evacuate the whole building

  • My questions is what took so long for the fire crew to get to the victims? It took 1:16 to get to them. They should have been packed out and ready to go by the time they stepped out of the apparatus. Their bunker gear provides enough protection for minimum exposure which is plenty to get in and do an emergency drag.

  • this is what not to do!

  • thats tough.

  • Rescue could have saved presious time by dragging him away fast then begin cpr. So many mistakes

  • R.I.P buddy

  • Anhidrous amonia will kill you dont go downwind of it NEVER get low to the ground and crawl away if you ever come into contact with a situation like this man this is sad

  • i remember this that was not a police officer that died it was the truck driver regardless it is still a horrible death

  • @atj619 They're both fucking dead

  • Dont Cops take W.H.M.I.S TRAINING?

  • These cops are supposed to be trained to handle ammonia leaks. Why did this happen?

  • This should be in drivers handbook and part of the test.

  • Actually there is no record of any officer dying on this day... this is a training video only. NOT REAL.

  • @LeadersOS It's an Illinois State Police training video. Pretty well known fact for us EMS/Fire, but it's good to see others seeing that you DO NOT RUN INTO A GASEOUS HAZMAT situation!

Also, in gaseous NH3 exposure, coughing and -extreme- discomfort, such as acute pulmonary edema will arise from even brief 1700ppm exposure. A tank such as that would be easily 5000ppm...just an "oh shit!" upon entering it. Chemical burns everywhere.

  • @Thilindel He is correct through, partially. According to ODMP, no ISP Trooper died on that date shown in the video (6-13-00).

  • @Thilindel So are you saying that this is fake, or training?

  • @1010code3 Training/staged. You won't get fire and pd to do a "fake" video. It's on all our Illinois State Police training's for HAZMAT awareness. Entering an ammonia cloud would blind nearly immediately. Any goblet-cell type surface, such as nasal/eyes, etc., wouldn't stand a chance in gaseous NH3

  • @Thilindel Yes, I understand that ISP does training videos like this. I just wanted to make sure this one was one them, and not a real death.

  • @Thilindel So he didn't really die? I was flipping shit, that's realistic as hell.
