  • The expansion of the universe, and its acceleration doesn't necessarily mean it can't fall back on its self. I agree there is no evidence for this claim ether.

The debate whether it will or not is still up for discussion. I agree the crunch isn't the most popular. There doesn't seem to be a consensus on this topic.

If there is a god, It for surely doesn't seem like it would be the god of the old testament lol

I dare not describe the word god.. Getting into the hole complexity needs a creator.

  • Getting into the hole complexity needs a creator. just makes no sense.

  • Hello. The big crunch, not going to happen. The accelerated expansion of the universe negates this.

  • It's a rather large assumption to think the universe had to have conscious decision behind it. It's a GIANT assumption to assume that that conscious decision also involved the conscious creation of.. anything specific at all, including us.

  • Indeed. It is also a GIANT assumption that the universe was an accident and that we are just here for no reason whatsoever. I say this with all due respect.

I do not agree that my assumption is that large or far fetched. The universe could not have just started on it's own from nothingness. For me, that would be totally illogical. Any object does not just start moving all on it's own, unless it was designed to.

And just because it is happening... I am experiencing a major deja vu right now

  • It's just ridiculous to even assume that the universe coming from nothing is a fact.

Which is why science has been working and will always be working towards finding an answer for what came before.

There's theories like string (or 'M') that try to explain what happened before.

  • Something set the train running.

  • Right but that "something" doesn't have to be a god, in fact there is no scientific reason to assume it was a god.

  • Well, something had to make a concious decision to do it. Things just do not happen all by themselves.

Something had to have the ability to make the decision to make it happen. Since it is an entire universe, this something would have to be emmensly powerfull and intelligent and sentient.

    Is this not a God?

  • Actually, things do just happen all by themselves, as observed by science. In fact, everything happens by itself.

This is not a god, just because at this point we have no theory of a before universe, doesn't mean there wasn't something before it. This does not make anything a god.

  • Not before the beginning of the universe. Nothing happened in this universe before it expanded.

  • How can you be so sure?

What's to say there wasn't, just because it had a starting point? How can you be so sure that our universe is even the only universe?

  • We can only go by what evidence we have. We have a universe, and it could not have spontaneously formed from absolute nothingness.

If you can imagine more universes, then how come it is wrong for me to imagine that God created the universe?

  • Right, neither of us is right nor wrong.

But to state your opinion as though it were fact is slightly arrogant. This is only my perception of your comments.

  • Ahh. I am sorry to state my beliefs as fact, but to me, it is fact.

I see your problem with my statements.

  • No reason to be sorry, human nature!

  • I must be odd- or perhaps it is just my lack of religious ethics- but I know that none of us know for certain where the universe began, and therefore really could care less about it. I've often wondered about the big bang and whatnot, but there is no scientific PROOF and I have since given up even trying to find the answer. Some would call this lazy... and I wouldn't entirely disagree! lol

  • LMAO!

Well I am facinated by it so I must study and think about it.

  • And for the record, Christian ethics and secular ethics are quite similar.

Ther unfortunate Falon Gong practicioners in China are attempting to practice a philosophy of tolerance, and forgiveness, which is very similar to Christianity, and it is unfortunate that the Chinese government persecute these people with horrable tortures.

It became so popular that the governemtn saw it as a threat.

  • At it's core, Xtianity has a heart. I take no issue with true believers- everyone has the right to believe what they want. I do not understand the extremists- those who seem to judge everyone, and take it upon themselves to try and convert the world. I say lead by example, without judgment. You don't seem to be one of these, but I feel, sadly, that they outrank people like you in number and voracity.

  • Tell me about it. I have a cousin who became just like that. We have a mutual friend, and it makes things awkward, for I will no longer hang out with him and that makes it difficult for our mutual friend.

My cousin decided that it was his soul purpose to rubuke and preach to me when he does not do it to anybody else. I warned him not to do that, and he did anyway.

I want to fully commit to Christ, but I fear that I will turn out just like my cousin. And that is sad indeed.
