the guy who looks like tidus is shuyin he was executed one thousand years prior to the events of the game for trying to steal and use Vegnagun. His resemblance to Yuna's lost love, Tidus, is enough to prompt her to join the Gullwings. Shuyin mistakes Yuna for his own lost love, Lenne, as he takes up his former goal to control Vegnagun as an unsent. And also,Yuna mistakes Shuyin for tidus. NOT GOOD!

I think the game was trying to show the development of Yuna's character. She used to be so shy, and was less talkative. But now she was stepping out of her circle, being more bold and adventurous. Of course, we can still see signs of her shyness, but developing her character takes time :D

Remember that the faith said that Tidus is only a dream. He can't be in the "real" Zanerkand

Tidus wasn't thrown into the future, he existed in the same time as Yuna and that lot.

Basically, 'Dream Zanarkand' was summonded by the fayth, or Yevon, can't remember which and the reason Sin atttacks boats is to stop them getting too near to 'Dream Zanarkand' and he also attacks Machina places so that they won't develop the tech to get there.

So, basically, Tidus didn't exist 100 years ago. Actually, it is suggested that the fayth based his 'dream' off the real Shuyin.

Considering the "people who lived there" bit,you would think that Tidus is like a ghost,but he was shown to do not know anything about Spira,or even about the destruction of Zanarkand.

Tidus is based on Shuyun. The fayth created Tidus as a remnant of Shuyin, they tried their best to remember how Shuyin looked and who he was but they ended up with Tidus. That explains why Shuyin and Tidus both look so similar.

@IceGoddess2456 Not quite. Tidus WAS real until he died. Then the Faith started dreaming and Tidus became a dream. Shuyin was real too and died, but not by Sin's hand. Sin came into being after Shuyin died. The Faith only revived those who had died because of Sin.

Shuyin was real.. and when he died and indeed sin came.. the people who survived the war between zanarkand and bevelle became the faith and dreams about the old zanarkand and the people in it. So they dreams about shuyin.. And thats where we get tidus.. he is just some kind of a copy of shuyin..
