How can someone dislike this? I mean, it's episode 131 in a random man's Minecraft series. A person that dislikes mostly don't watch minecraft at all. And he must have used like 20 minutes to find this video or something.. was it worth it dislikers?

I did some testing. Your redstone ore step idea works fine with a monostable circuit; just hook it up so a pressure plate diagonal to the piston hits the nor latch, which automatically turns itself off after however long you want. The output of the latch is the same block with the pressure plate, basically just extending its effect. You'll need a repeater at the end of that output to the plate block I believe; I didn't try it without, but it feels cleaner. No back-surge of power from the plate.

Etho, you don't need pistons on both sides. Just use one row of sticky pistons.

Etho - Instead of whacking the Blazes to death to collect their xp, you could brew some Splash Potions of Harming, to insta-kill them after you have crushed them. It saves tons of time, especially after you have collected a lot of Blazes to kill, because you have two Blaze farms. It also conserves your hunger, whacking mobs to death takes hunger, and so if you throw just one potion at a group of Blazes, you will not only save time, you will conserve your hunger. Sorry for the long paragraph..

etho i know you like to use just vanilla MC, but you should really install the Little Blocks Mod. purely for your redstone circuitry (maybe decoration). it would make redstone wiring that took up 16x16 surface a 1x1 surface :)

Can't you use lava to push the blaze from the bottom of the collectors to a central area? They are immune to lava to they would be pushed like if they were in water.

Etho, if you decide to use your first nether wart farm it would be a good idear to conect each end to one lever, but have a 'not gate' on one side so that when you frip the lever, the one side of pistons pushes the nether wart while the other side of pistons turn off.

this way you wont have to reset the pistons, just flip the switch to the other direction to harvest the nether wart.

Fire next to nether wart will allow it to grow to max size in 4-5 minutes, lava can take up to 20 minutes and natural light is roughly an hour to 4 hours.

Make sure you have a point where you can stand and both spawners will be active. Also, when harvesting all the exp its much faster to use a splah potion of damage to the blaze; you will still get the exp

My theory on the nether wart breaking while the soul sand switched is that one tried to grow causing the whole column to realise there was no block beneath it (moving blocks are entities) and break.

@TheShortbus9 My HP Pavilion desktop Athlon 64X2 Dual 5000 only gets 10 FPS with Fast Graphics and Normal distance rendering, but increases to 20 with Optifine mod. I drop to Short distance to get around 50 FPS for comfortable playing. A lot depends on the map terrain and nearby entities, but reducing or disabling most animations in Optifine's options helps too. Experiment with Advanced OpenGL and Fast or Fancy Graphics to find the best mix.

hey etho i know this isnt one of your videos in the stronghold but i found something interesting about the stone bricks containing silverfish. If you use your fist you on a block containing silverfish it will break faster than one without a silverfish. any tool (including pickaxes) will break the silverfish block at the same speed as your fist

I've been coming to think of what else can be done with pistons and farms. And looking at the prototype you showed i'm thinking that suger cain(not suger cains, notherners....) and wheat can be used with this same technic. I'm still brain storming on what elce this could be used for but allot of things do come to mind. A multi-step mob separator is one of them.

If you use your soul-sand-area-design you might get a problem with the java hashset, because it can change the update order. Sethbling has made a video where he explains the issues with the hashset really nice.

Etho, you need to go to The End so you can start using End Stone instead of Sandstone. It has a brighter texture and is blast-proof.
