The real failure of the IJN was not figuring out that the US had broken enough of its code to gleen what they were doing. 2 US carriers just popping up at the right time and place should have set off alarm bells about signals traffic security. That oversight cost them at Midway.
BTW, BGM from Ace Combat is a lot better than the original version in the DVD. The BGM in the original versions are so lame that they just do not match with the film and put you into sleep, zzz.... The book w/DVD is about U.S $17-$18 at the current exchange rate.
This is a DVD movie from Futabasha's "Ultra-detailed [3D CG] Series #36- Reisen/Zero Fighter" The CG film is created by Masaru Tochibayashi. Unlike conventional CG works, Tochibayashi's films do not have the notorious hollowness that is generally seen in CG films. Try ISBN: 9784575479225 at Japanese Amazon but not sure if they ship overseas. Another good one is Series #42 "Japan-U.S Aircraft Carrier Battle"; ISBN: 9784575450415. The books are written only in Japanese, though.

ゼロ戦は一時期無敵で米軍機はやられっぱなしだったけど
後に性能を追い越され、戦略も見透され熟練パイロットを失い
終戦間際には新人パイロットがぼろぼろのゼロ戦を特攻に使うという結末。
大和といいゼロ戦といい美しきモノの悲劇は胸が張り裂けます。

スーパーエース岩本の太平洋戦争初の激戦を良く表しています。
この戦いで彼は母艦を守り通しました。
そしてラバウルでは多数のアメリカ戦闘機を撃退。
最後まで生き残りました。残念なのは戦後の風潮に馴染めず、病魔に倒れ病死した事ですね。
生きてたら間違いなく太平洋戦線最高のエースでした。

大東亜戦争を生き抜いた岩本徹三は終戦後わずか10年で病死することになる。
願わくば、この偉大なエースにもう少し長生きしてもらえれば(現在存命していれば
94歳である)、あの大空のサムライ坂井三郎氏を上回るパイロットとして名を残せた
だろう。残念でならない。
救いは手記が残っており、「零戦撃墜王」として発行されたことである。
