all racing games are good in there own ways... it would be better if Need for Speed, Forza,Granturismo, and Grid got together and made a real driving simulator, but even if that did happen, you will never get any where near real life, maybe you would in graphics...but you will never get the thrill if driving high speed and shifting and handling like you do in real life. :)

These two games aren't even comparable. Forza is a simulator. shift is not. forza is a ridiculous value for how many cars and tracks you get and how accurately they are modeled. I'm a real world racer and only like to play simulations, so the choice for forza is a no-brainer for me, but they really shouldn't be put side-by-side.

The NFS is difficult to play because these cars in real world are very difficult to ride in such a speed, if it was very easy than Every scrap of the street would be on racing track.

shift is the better game, despite how glitchy it is. in F3, the handling got dumbed down and it was nearly impossible to buy half the cars in the game due to how expensive they were. Oh, and online was crap due to AWD AUDIS AND VIPERS EVERYWHERE. In all honesty, Shift is better just for the cockpit experience. I rarely race against the AI. I just do timetrials because thats where the fun lies. Its just a blast to drive.

I've got Forza and I played Shift once, and I REALLY HATED IT! The steering, as you said, is so unrealistic in shift... I dont want my car to oversteer in every corner! Now I give you an example: in a track where in forza I won lots of times, in shift I was allways on the grass! Someone might say "than shift is more difficult and simulates much better", but the truth is NO Shift weren't an enjoyable game for me and I won't play with it again. Forza has also much better graphics and sounds.
Have you ever played NFS shift before, it allows you to change your steering after the first race, after that its your type of driving, Unlike stupid unrealistic Forza >:(

In terms of visuals, I don't think it can be denied that Shift vomits all over the face of FM3. It's just a prettier game.
However, I find the gameplay of Forza to be far superior. The controls in Shift are horrendously bizarre to work with. You try to turn, and the car doesn't respond until a second later, at which point it goes into a big slide. It's designed to make you overcorrect, while Forza allows you to cut a clean line with the gamepad. Forza also wins in car selection! Hugely!
@JETZcorp I disagree with the graphics part. Forza 3 is also superior when it comes to graphics.
The lighting for forza is a bit too shiny and does take away form the realism. But if forza had a better lighting system, more people would realize that forza does have better graphics. You can't beat the detail put into Forza Motorsport 3.

I actually race in hard mode. It's much tougher than normal/easy.
I haven't picked up the actual FM3 game yet since CODMW2 has taken over every game I have but I'll buy it to make some vids. I loved FM2 so I'm sure I'll love this even more.

Watch the need for speed shift vs Forza video comparing the MC12 (Granted one is a GT1 and one is stock) and then watch the MC12 Monza in car video of the real car. Then comment on realism. I prefer the Need For Speed vs Forza 3 video that has the actual NFSS in game sounds and twinkle twinkle little star playing for Forza 3 (Yes i know the NFSS physics of Floatiness and Braking could be slightly better) This is a racing game and not a "OOOOH look at the SHINY cars!" game. In shift, you have nfs shift driving strategy. In fm3, real driving rules apply. such as: brake physics, pump the breaks, break in a straight line. there's a clutch, finally. the tire walls fold over as you go through a turn. Pro drivers eat this shit up. We don't care about the silly heatbeat effect. and no one races on acid.

Keep in mind, when I say realistic vehicle dynamics, I don't mean crash effects. Both games obviously are not very realistic depictions of high speed crashes. NFS seems to have more "exciting" crashes, however one could argue that the type of gamer that plays FM3 is usually trying to avoid crashing, so using processor capability depicting "pretty" crash effects would be a waste.
The problem with comparisons such as these is that the product are made for fundamentally different audiences. Seems to me that if you're into flashier (but not necessarily realistic) graphics and sounds, and you feel that's what makes a game more immersive, then you'll probably enjoy NFS Shift more. On the other hand, if you're interested in a more realistic representation of vehicle dynamics, then you'll probably prefer FM3.

You'd think driving calmly is the case IRL but it just isn't. You rock back and forth, side to side, neck breaking forces on your body. It's loud, fucking LOUD. You can hear the tires and the engine from several blocks away, echoing. Not to mention the sound of the transmission and air intake, and of course, your own heart beat.
Trust me. Buy a powerful car (even an older cheaper model) and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Yeah most def FM3 is pretty spot on but listen to NFSUG2 or NFSMW or NFS Prostreet and compare them to real life you'll see what I mean. Try it with a V8 cause that's a sound not every game can make.

What I don't like about the two though is that Forza doesn't have enough back fire from high powered cars and Shift has too much damn backfire. I mean really, every single car in that game backfires high powered or not. Even when the car is Naturally Aspirated. It's annoying to be honest with you. lol. And a lot of the cars sound the same too.

The lack of the R35 and the 2010 Mustang, you know? & im sure they will change it up a little bit soon enough. We'll get lots of things, not to mention Shift doesn't have the kinda freedom that Forza has. Examples: Fujima and the Benchmark tracks.

I've got Forza and I played Shift once, and I REALLY HATED IT! The steering, as you said, is so unrealistic in shift... I dont want my car to oversteer in every corner! Now I give you an example: in a track where in forza I won lots of times, in shift I was allways on the grass! Someone might say "than shift is more difficult and simulates much better", but the truth is NO Shift weren't an enjoyable game for me and I won't play with it again. Forza has also much better graphics and sounds.

In terms of visuals, I don't think it can be denied that Shift vomits all over the face of FM3. It's just a prettier game.
However, I find the gameplay of Forza to be far superior. The controls in Shift are horrendously bizarre to work with. You try to turn, and the car doesn't respond until a second later, at which point it goes into a big slide. It's designed to make you overcorrect, while Forza allows you to cut a clean line with the gamepad. Forza also wins in car selection! Hugely!

@JETZcorp I disagree with the graphics part. Forza 3 is also superior when it comes to graphics.
The lighting for forza is a bit too shiny and does take away form the realism. But if forza had a better lighting system, more people would realize that forza does have better graphics. You can't beat the detail put into Forza Motorsport 3.

I actually race in hard mode. It's much tougher than normal/easy.
I haven't picked up the actual FM3 game yet since CODMW2 has taken over every game I have but I'll buy it to make some vids. I loved FM2 so I'm sure I'll love this even more.
Also my new videos will be in True HD. I just have to go out and buy the recorder.

Watch the need for speed shift vs Forza video comparing the MC12 (Granted one is a GT1 and one is stock) and then watch the MC12 Monza in car video of the real car. Then comment on realism. I prefer the Need For Speed vs Forza 3 video that has the actual NFSS in game sounds and twinkle twinkle little star playing for Forza 3 (Yes i know the NFSS physics of Floatiness and Braking could be slightly better) This is a racing game and not a "OOOOH look at the SHINY cars!" game. Forza is Boring!

lolski. you don't even hardly have to break in shift. just back off the gas and slam the wheel in whatever direction you are going to turn. that should do it. In shift, you have nfs shift driving strategy. In fm3, real driving rules apply. such as: brake physics, pump the breaks, break in a straight line. there's a clutch, finally. the tire walls fold over as you go through a turn. Pro drivers eat this shit up. We don't care about the silly heatbeat effect. and no one races on acid.

lol... maybe true if your trying to corner @ the same speed/markers as you do playing shift. An intelligent auto buff would tell you to make a camber/tire pressure adj. and SLOW DOWN! It's all about how fast you can go in ANY NFS title, and that's not racing. Racing is more of a compromise betwixt cornering and top speed... As well as a lesson in the principles of inertia.

Keep in mind, when I say realistic vehicle dynamics, I don't mean crash effects. Both games obviously are not very realistic depictions of high speed crashes. NFS seems to have more "exciting" crashes, however one could argue that the type of gamer that plays FM3 is usually trying to avoid crashing, so using processor capability depicting "pretty" crash effects would be a waste.

The problem with comparisons such as these is that the product are made for fundamentally different audiences. Seems to me that if you're into flashier (but not necessarily realistic) graphics and sounds, and you feel that's what makes a game more immersive, then you'll probably enjoy NFS Shift more. On the other hand, if you're interested in a more realistic representation of vehicle dynamics, then you'll probably prefer FM3.

You'd think driving calmly is the case IRL but it just isn't. You rock back and forth, side to side, neck breaking forces on your body. It's loud, fucking LOUD. You can hear the tires and the engine from several blocks away, echoing. Not to mention the sound of the transmission and air intake, and of course, your own heart beat.
Trust me. Buy a powerful car (even an older cheaper model) and you'll know what I'm talking about.

I just bought FORZA 3, cant wait to play it, they both have different activities besides normal racing, must play both, thats why I bought it, Im not a fan kid who goes like "FORZA IS BETTER!!" without testing the other one first.
To me, watching this comparison, NFS Shift looks and feels way better, will I think the same way tomorrow?

What I don't like about the two though is that Forza doesn't have enough back fire from high powered cars and Shift has too much damn backfire. I mean really, every single car in that game backfires high powered or not. Even when the car is Naturally Aspirated. It's annoying to be honest with you. lol. And a lot of the cars sound the same too.

Yeah, like seriously!! what the fuck! XD But two things really surprised me about Forza 3... The lack of the R35 and the 2010 Mustang, you know? & im sure they will change it up a little bit soon enough. We'll get lots of things, not to mention Shift doesn't have the kinda freedom that Forza has. Examples: Fujima and the Benchmark tracks.
