Jesus makes specific promises in the Bible about how prayer is supposed to work. Jesus says in many places that he and God will answer your prayers (Matthew 21:21, 11:24, Matthew 18:19); in John chapter 14 vers 12-14
explicitly ' ... You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it'
If that were true, why don't christians knee down and pray to God to cure every case of cancer on this planet today!
sure.. Job 40:15-19 "Look now at the behemoth, which I made along with you; He eats grass like an ox. See now, his strength is in his hips, And his power is in his stomach muscles. He moves his tail like a cedar; The sinews of his thighs are tightly knit. His bones are like beams of bronze, His ribs are like bars of iron. He is the first of the ways of God; Only He who made him can bring him near His sword."
Here the bible talks about a very large creature..discribed with a tail that swings like a cedar..the cedar trees over there are like the size of redwood trees here in america..they are huge. it talks about the power and strength of this creature and says his bones are like beams of bronze and ribs like bars of iron..
the bible is definately describing what we would call a dinosaur. Job, by the way, is one of the oldest books of the bible..around the time of abraham, which was before the flood. so dionsaurs were still on the earth at that point in time. dinosaurs did live, they were created by God, and it wasnt millions or billions of years ago. people then ask, well then how were bones fossilized? the weight and pressure of the water in the flood couldve easily smashed bone into rock to make fossils.
It is proven. But proof is not really your problem, your problem is your wicked heart. It's the same problem I had and everyone else who bends their will against God's. Man's heart is desparately wicked....
John is one of the best teachers in America..I used to go to Grace in the early 70's when in that area....He just was deceived by Talbot teachers like so many at other seminaries who push the law trashing doctrine that accomodates the Rom 8:7 mindset of humans.
Most who attend church will go to the lake of fire because they remain rebels and do not let the blood, word, grace and spirit of Jesus transform their characters to be fit for eternal life.
They dont attend the church they attend the building. We as christians need to remeber what church means, Believers. Its not a bulding. We need to pray for the lost if they attend a bulding that calls themselves a church. or if they do not attend. I pray God will open thier eyes to the gospel of christ .
The NT story is an "interpretation of the life of Jesus"? On what basis do you make such speculations? The Gospel writers write in a straightforwad, historical narrative sense. What extra-biblical document do you have that supersedes the gospels in being historically established to offer a "true" understanding of the life of Christ?
"Yet she increased her prostitution, remembering the days of her youth when she engaged in prostitution in the land of Egypt. She lusted after their genitals -- as large as those of donkeys, and their seminal emission was as strong as that of stallions".
Why would figures of speech make it unreliable? When you say that something is "as big as a house" are you making a straightforward declaration of actual size or using hyperbole to establish a point?
Uh, common sense? Either the Bible is saying that there are men with 3 foot long penises or it's using an animal comparison to suggest large genetalia.
Have you ever said "I'm so hungry I could eat a horse" and had anyone, ever, think you were suggesting that you could masticate and digest an entire horse in 1 sitting? Of course not. Common sense tells one that you are not meaning what you "litteraly" seem to be saying.
TheArmchairgeek: Are you saying that you know the mind of camel herders who lived 2.000 years ago ? God knows what they meant. Maybe it was meant as a joke!! That`s why the bible can`t be true. It needs HUMAN interpretation.Humans are fallible. Peace !!
No, I do not understand their minds. I DO understand their words. I can do that because I have recorded propositional language from them, written in a specific context.
That is also why WE can have this conversation. You do not know who I am, or anything about my context. You do not know my mind...but we're still talking about this and successfull tansmtting ideas. Language is not so inherently cryptic that communication is impossible...that's an argument that is inherently self defeating.
Also, the Bible explicitly claims that does NOT need human interpretation. It claims that the spiritual significance of the text is revealed by the illuminatng work of th Holy Spirit. Human fallibility does not override God's will and power to make himself known.
My last comment: The holy spirit is doing a lousy job. He illuminated people over the centuries in 34.000 different ways, leading to as many christian denominations.
not everyone who claims to be a christian is one! so there are people who hate GOD and love their darling sins that pretend to be part of the body of CHRIST,but are not!
Exactly the bible in its inerrant and infallible form doesnt need interpretation...or perception...what it says is exactly what it means, there is no semantics in the bible.
lol well abortion and divorce are seen as sins by 95% of Christians. It's the liberal ones who never interpret the Bible based on historical Church doctrines that say otherwise. As for the other items you listed, yes they are debated but the beliefs aren't necessarily "different." They just disagree on certain rituals and procedures because of tradition. It's like looking at fossil bones and debating whether the dinosaur was green or red. Does it really matter?
On the contrary, I don't think they are the essentials to our faith so I don't think it's something to get too deep into. That's why we have so many denominations so that the believer can choose what he/she likes in regards to tradition. As for your comment, the church does not have the authority to deny anything - only scripture does.
Baptism is NOT required for salvation as many believe. Scripture shows us that baptism is only a public declaration of faith whereas the actual conversion starts with your heart. The Bible never says the church of Jesus is a physical one. It is a spiritual one where true believers are united through the Holy Spirit. Also, Jesus would not give such a command as everything that had to be said from God is in the Bible. Anything else that is added is heresy - just read the last chapter of Rev.
That is your interpretation. Other Christians interpret scripture differently. Salvation is crucial. If some interpret the bible to say that Baptism is required for salvation, isn't that an essential of faith?
How about this:
- James 2:24 "You see that a man is justified by works, and not by faith alone."
Can you see why it is vital that we have an authoritative interpreter of scripture?
- Matthew 6:14 "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father also will forgive you; but if you don not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."
- John 6:53-54 "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink His blood, you have no life in you; he who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day."
- Romans 2:6-7 "For He will render to every man according to his works: to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, He will give eternal life."
John 20
21Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." 22And with that he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit. 23If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven."
17If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector.
Luke 10
16"He who listens to you listens to me; he who rejects you rejects me; but he who rejects me rejects him who sent me."
1 Timothy 3
15 you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God's household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.
Haha bro. Most of the verses you list have nothing to do what we're talking about. But by this verse from James, I'm guessing you're a Catholic - which I have nothing against. To save some time, what about I let someone else say I want to say. We're both mature Christians, right? How's that sound? I'll provide for you something to read and you can do the same if you wish.
The pope is not that unifying authority. The pope is a man. I have another question why do Catholics pray to Mary? In heaven people do not pray for those still here. Jesus is the interceder not the pope not Mary.
Catholics ask Mary to pray for us. We believe in the communion of Saints. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful.
God is the God of the living, ie. Isaac, Moses, and Elijah, etc., NOT the dead.
You can't say that the Pope is not a unifying authority. The majority of Christians worldwide acknowledge his position as leader of the Church with regard to organization and doctrine.
The fact that you reject this unity doesn't change reality.

Why - because God is imaginary!
curiosityversusfaith 2 years ago
The point of my comment is to show that
1) The God of the Bible is not able or not willing to keep what is promised in the Bible!
2) The best explanation for 1) is that the Bible is NOT the GENUINE word of God, which means that the God OF THE BIBLE is imaginary.
3) Or: The God of the Bible died already or he lost his influence on this universe.
4) Or: The God of the Bible lied in all his promisses that he gave in the Bible.
5) Or: The Bible is so confusing, misleading and thus useless.

What if you Church teaches that once you are saved you are always saved, and this is not true?

So the evidence that the gospels were written before AD 70 is that Matthew didn't scream out about the fall of jeruselum? Seriously- what?

That is some of the evidence yes. It doesn't claim to be the only evidence, nor does it claim to be 100% certain.
