Great reminder of my time up there. Spent 4 years on the Sullom Voe Oil Terminal and landed on this runway once every six weeks for nearly 4 years in a Piper Aztec coming from Belfast. Some harrowing landings and takeoffs in all sorts of weather.
@Whizjet Whizjet, not that I really give a shit what you think, but just 'cause I'm bored I'll reply to you. Tell me whats dangerous about having a little digital camera attached to the top of the intstrument panel? Exactly, nothing. I'm surprised you have time to fly, since you seem to have your head buried in an ops manual. Perhaps explains why you aren't confident to take anything bigger than a twotter onto 33. It also explains why you hide behind a nickname and criticize other people.
Interesting that the PM (Pilot Monitoring) managed to film all that approach as well as doing his primary task. Does the Ops Manual Part A - (Gen/Basic) - say anything about movie making?
What's the fuss. The instruction manual says "Head for the lighthouse, then follow the road until you reach the farm. turn left and put her down." Nae bother!
@Bwaname - I suspect I was landing at Sumburgh when you were in your cradle. That approach was kosher in an Otter or Islander; wouldn't care to try it in much else.
(Unless a helo of course, and I've done that too!)
Nice work. Love the Shetland Isles

Brilliant video - could you make one on a stormy day now that we're into winter?. That would be ace.
Marion/Marianne the air hostess is a babe and her voice is like melted chocolate;)
Oh, and to the "holier than thou" people who are posting comments, these Flybe pilots who fly in and out of Sumburgh are second to none.
You know you're in safe hands.

Hmm - not being smart, being safe. If it was fixed to the windscreen, then presumably there was an STC in force, complete with the Tech Approval?
Whizjet 1 year ago
@Whizjet None nescessary. camera is like a gecko, it just sucks on the windshield.
ee000011 1 year ago
@ee000011 So it would still need both an STC and a Notice to Crew to approve the practice.
Standards at LC have clearly declined.....

@Whizjet Don't try to be smart now. Camera was prob fixed to the windshield. Bwaname knows what he's doing.

Was it possible to use the aircraft again? Missed the number three wire as well as the C/L I think - Tingwall was much more interesting anyway!
Whizjet 3 years ago
@Whizjet Right on, if we made that approach with our Falcon 20 it would have been a write off.
