I really wish the western pleasure classes didn't get so extreme, in all the breeds. The show standards for the QH/Paint, apps, arabs and even morgans is so far removed from a working type horse that it saddens me. The horse SHOULD be a pleasure to ride, but should be allowed to go in a 'working' posture for its conformation. I think the arabs are to over curled in the neck. I think western horses SHOULD show a 'working' variation of the gaits, prove they can still be athletic & obedient.
@Barnes9999 i WISH our AQHA's went as nicely as these. after 45 years I am considering a move to half arabs . I just cant do it anymore, and i hate the mane banding too. this vid reminds me of our AQHA pleasure horses in the 80's..
I prefer Arabian Western Pleasure to QH Western pleasure. I love the breaking over the poll, the balance of the horse's frame when the reins are draped and loose. The straight hip through poll Qh Western Pleasure makes me think that the horse is about to step on it's nose.
How very interesting. It is interesting to compare their way of going to Quarter Horse western pleasure. There are similarities. The major differences appear to be that the Arabs are shown breaking over at the poll much more and they are shown with romal reins. The standard for WP movement appears to be the same; deep 'straight' hocks and flat knees. A major difference is that the Arabs are also shown at a hand gallop. It appears that the riders sit a little more 'forward' than QH WP riders do.
Another mjor difference is that top QH Wesern Pleasure horses are spur trained whereas Arabs are not.

arabs can have a little knee action, they dont have to be really flat, and the hand gallops really only at nationals, i like you observations. =]
