Not to debate or flame, but I HAVE read the bible, several times, from beginning to end, with different christian groups. I read several factual books about the bible and it's relation to general history as well, I even talked to historians about the content of the bible. It got uncomfortable making exuses to keep my faith alive. But you, ofcourse have a right to belive, just as I have a right not to... :-)
@JJTakeItAway Just reading, researching, talking to historians (respectfully), by themselves DOES NOT automatically open ones eyes. It takes understanding to come to a conviction and then a conclusion (perhaps). I based my beliefs on sources that I STRONGLY believe from the Bible. It does not take a detective to know that the Bible is true. As you said, you have the right to not believe. However, under the law of God, you do not have the right to deny the truth. May God Bless you.
@MrFall2006 I believe I have understanding, but unlike you I do not have faith anymore, because I do have understanding. Only blind religious faith can make excuses for the terrible things Yahwe has both ordered and orchestrated, according to the bible. I honestly came to this conclusion because I DON'T deny truth any more, neither do I predefine it according to any religious doctrine. I just went where the evidence took me.
@superfatamusic Once saved always saved! It's impossible for one to walk away from Christ. What faith are you talking about. You think your eyes are open and you have understanding when in fact you are lost and need to start all over again! "I don't deny the truth anymore." So, you used to deny Christ while calling him your savior. What if I tell you that God allowed the slave trade to happen to make Africans part of America. Do you know a better way of bringing millions Africans in the U.S.
@MrFall2006 There was never a Christ to walk away from... I am quite shocked of how apolagetic you are towards Yahwe, it seems you are willing to accept anything, make excuses for anything, simply based on your belief that Yahwe is "god"...If a divine, all knowing god can't think of a better way for a people to move from one continent to another than orchestrating an unimaginably grotesqe slavery trade, then that god is incompetent, not to mention cynical and evil... Hitler-like. :-/
@superfatamusic Do you know a way of bring one millions Africans to the United States or Brazil and give them legal citizenship. This is what God had done several centuries ego, and slavery was the way he chose, he has other ways of doing things too. Yes, there was a Christ that walked in the world, like or not. Again, God does NOT condone slavery! Read the bible and and ask those who may be able to help you understand. May my God AKA Jesus Christ bless. Marry Christmas.
According to the bible Yahve absolutely did, he even gave instructions on how to go about it. If you believe Yahve is God, and the bible is true, you have to be in deep denial trying to pretend it isn't so. It's sad, but true.
@JJTakeItAway God said to Abraham in Genesis “know that thou children will be strangers in a land that is not theirs...,” talking about the slavery in Egypt. God said in the bible also, “ I did all that just to display my power.” God “allowed” slavery (to happen), but never okayed it; god punished all the people that...You have read the whole contest. How would we understand the power of God in Exodus if slavery had never happen in Egypt!
@MrFall2006 "Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly."
@JJTakeItAway Matthew 19:8 "Jesus replied, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning."
We know from the Bible that Christians should only have one wife. Polygamy was somehow allowed in the old testament. God may allow slavery to happen but you've got to try to understand the intention, purpose, and reason of it in order to understand God. God doesn't think like we do; he is way wiser, smarter, etc, that's because...
Yahve clearly commands the slaughtering of men, women (including even the pregnant and their unborn) and children and also gives his full blessing to take people as slaves. Yahve clearly has no regard for human life, not even his "own" peoples. It's all over the old testament, it cannot be denied, however bad it fits with ones eligous convictions.
@MrFall2006 ... kind of God that would okay slavery. That’s just not what this God (the heavenly father) is about. He may have allowed it to happen, but you need to try to understand the reason why he did it in order to understand the whole idea, intention, or purpose. God allowed the children of Abraham "his friend" to be slaves in Egypt for generations for a simple reason, so he can "display his power to the world and show us how powerful he is, and what he can do that "so-call gods can't..
@JJTakeItAway I understand where you are coming from. I remember walking up to an elder before my conversion and asked him about a verse in the bible where it states “ slaves obey your masters.” The guy happened to be a very educated Christian who was able to answer my question. You need to read lots of parts (or the whole bible) of the bible in order to understand what a verse means. I love God, I believe in him, and I would probably not want anything to do with him if I believed he was the...

He does. You're not taking into account the slaves (Heathens) that are allowed to be purchased from other nations. Levi 25:44-46,
