  • i met steve bailey once and he said playing with victoris amazing, but its also a lesson. he said its like "man how are u gonna kick my butt tonight". now thats respect

  • Back in 93 when I was in music school, Flecktones came and played an exibition for a couple of hours. Most amazing thing I saw. Really makes you look at yourself and go, "I suck!". But with a smile! ;-) All of them are really the nicest guys and freely shared their knowledge.

  • that little harmonic run at 5:43 pretty much sold me.....wow

  • one has much to learn grasshopper!!!!! vic is great!!

  • Wow! I've seen him at least three times performing with the Flecktones :-) I'm always impressed!

  • Based in Nashville they come to Knoxville regularly - I can't wait for their next visit!

  • 2:31 =

    the best

  • Das Video ist ja mal richtig qail also net das video sonder dern bass spieler...

  • i love this man !

i try to play his solo with Dave Matthews.

come to see my youtube space !

  • JUST GOTTA LOVE THIS GUY

    DRAGA

  • toca muito! baxo brutal blood

  • 0:00-1:20

    Really touches me Inside somewhere.

  • i want so much to see him live....

  • @flavius4god im going to see him in new haven ct this mont. its only $20!

  • Victor is a virtuoso. I've seen him many times live. I love to hear him as well as watch him play. He is in my opinion the best of his era.

  • lol he is solo as well. most of his known material (at least to me) is solo. he's made a couple cd's solo too. The best cd is Yin-Yan, and the best songs is either Norwegian Wood (beatles solo bass cover) or The Vision (its not the fastest, but the deepest in my opinion). check it out, it amazing! by the way, this sounds a lot like a compilation of a couple of songs and solos he's done (amazing grace, norwegian wood, and live solos), but how he combined it is amazing!!!!! almost like a new solo!

  • He should go solo. Then he would get more famous i think.

  • @1StTubeYou He has several solo albums.

  • @deldred ahh ok.

  • uauauauuauauauauuu noc q decir aaaaaahhh

  • 1:20, the man is the epitome of hard-work and genius

  • THIS MAN IS THE TRUTH

  • he's using the entire instrument, people don't complain when a tenor sax does altissimo and say "its a tenor you should stick to the tenor range". He is expressing something and in this case to do that he uses his high register, like using harmonics, its just another way to get the note he wants out.

  • Brawa .

  • Would you say the same of Coltrane, Parker, Paganini?

  • its sounds like steve via

  • Just so you are aware (and I agree with you to an extent) but his bass is tuned tenor the majority of the time, usually A-D-G-C. Either way, he really has done something serious with the sound of a bass. The Tenor Tuning combined with the nickel strings, along with his play style, just really makes a unique sound.

  • I never questioned his skills... Like I said, he's a very talented musician and sure knows how to make unique sounds... This was just my opionion, nothing more than that... In my opinion a bass is supposed to sound like a bass, without notes that high...

  • Oh, no, I was not questioning your opinion at all. I was just attempting to enlighten you as to the reasons why it sounds the way it does. Its a tenor tuning. I tend to agree with your opinion actually, which is why i consider Marcus Miller a better bass player, but Victor Wooten a better musician (if that makes any sense at all)

  • It's ok, pal ... you sure did enlighten me about it :)

  • Norwegian wood!! Great.

  • The Night in Tunisia and Caravan part of the solo are great also. He goes from Dizzy Gillespie to Duke Ellington to the Beatles, an eclectic medley.

  • Amazing player, cool hang... God he pisses me off..

  • bastard almost looks bored himself. i wonder how, considering he's so damn brilliant.

    :P

  • 1:20 He starts playing Night in Tunisia :o

  • Explain?

  • the way he always palys incredibly fast just cause he can. He pulls it out at the most inappropirate times. DONT get me wrong I love him to pieces and he is probably in my top 3, but he can be a little bit of a 'dick' lol

  • victor is the best

  • DId he have cold fingers or something? I mean, Vic really is peerless, but he's a little edgy in this performance.

  • welll its not the pope playing bass is it?

  • dammmmmn man baghu ur an idiot mate im nt gnna lie u flopped up.

i dnt even wnna repeat ur comment mate but u reli dnt know anytin about victor atall.

    damnmmm man.

  • what a gook hey

  • THIS IS NOT VICTOR WOOTEN. you all sound hilarious. ....baghu-ur a fukn tool get a life and learn music!!!! i hate tht comment u are the epitome of whats wrong with music....the people listening!!!

  • i honestly believe stuff like this is harder than ANYTHING you could play on guitar.

saying that though most basslines from mainstream bands are piles of shit nowadays, pedalling the same note for 3 minutes.

  • Where does his amazingness end!?!!!??

  • it doesnt.

  • great

  • i mean for chrissake someone figure out which tv channel this is - that 2-tve in the corner, and find the original, and post it as a video response. PLEASE.

  • OMG 1:48 - 2:10 listen to it VERY CAREFULLY. c'mon please, will another professional bass player please speak up? THIS IS NOT VICTOR WOOTEN. you all sound hilarious.

  • what do you mean, ofc its him, hes playing "a night in tunisia", coolest bassline ever ...

  • Skip to about...oh say 4:00 in this...and look closely to what he is wearing...I know some idiots can't tell but seriously...does it have to be any more obvious that he has his name on the back of his shirt? idiot...

  • It's a signature jersey by Lathon Bass Wear.

  • he jammed to A Night in Tunisia, one of my favorite jazz pieces! :]

  • The first half is like a cure for insomnia but the second half is much much better.

  • eu toco mais que ele, hahahahahaha, eu sou o melhor baixista do mundo, kkkkkkkkkk

o cara toca muito nem sabia que dava pra fazer isso.....

  • Great, i hope that someday, i will play that well

  • 03:37 to 03:47.... sounds a lot like Norwegian Wood from the Beatles, no?

  • Oh, haha I suppose I wasn't the only person to pick up on this.... nevermind then :)

  • it is.

  • Tabs?

    Just kidding

  • Give me about a year and then I may got the intro xDD

  • aha you could get tabs for all of the songs online apart form the crazy caravan cover he does, how he does that is beyond me though, you find the tabs for that ill have to give you my soul or something aha

  • i agree he's an amazing bass player, but he seems kinda distracted in this video, it looks like he didn't know what to play at the beggining, so he started playing some famous stuff from his songbook, but he keeps being the BEST!!

  • why would ever even perceive someone this successful, good, and realistic looking to be a fake. come on now... seriously

  • any other player, and I'd say this was an amazing performance. That being said, it was not up to Victor Wooten standards

  • eese cara toca muito em

    ele esta de parabens!

  • exelente Dios te bendiga:::::::::::::Victor Wooten

  • He's my idol, my inspiration and everything. But I suppose he 's been after few beers playing the instrument here. Not as usual

  • that guy is so amazing

  • it's not a fake, it's just the sound is a bit out from the video, so it looks strange

  • hes the best one ever, one of a kind.

  • your right he is one of the best.

i can only recomment you to check out videos by Etienne Mbappe, richard bona mb too but hes more famous, awesome african influenced bass with speed and feel.. man, peace

  • how can he do this? at 2:32

  • its finger tapping.. plus years of practice involving a crap load of ingenuity and innovation..

    he's marvelous..

  • fucking mank

  • it is victor ya dickhead

  • haha watch at like 2:40 yea that crowd is toally fake and fake getting into it?

hes the real deal who could play circles around your little brain as you evolve into a cow and your shitty genes you seem to be missing grow as spots upon your back

  • he is best bass palyer in the world. so close your mouth. u should go watch some other material from he.

  • chifnerd

  • Yeah, sure, a high school kid. His tones are so thick and delicious you can't wrap your silly little head around them.

  • Amazing

  • is caravan!!!!

  • whats the name of 2:30 part???

  • Piękne! 5/5

  • hot damn...

  • anyone know the name of the second song?

  • Norwegian Wood

  • The first song is Night in Tunisia, the second is Caravan, the third is Norwegien Wood

  • the video is behind the sound.

  • 3:25 is beatles norwegian wood

  • 3:55 is an impro that he made for his version of norwegian wood

  • around 3.55 something... is that beatles? :O

  • lol, southpark

  • sooooo lovely~~

  • ...easily the greatest electric bassist alive & I've heard a bunch of them.

  • Haha see, if you leave that comment on most other musician's videos, you'll get fans and Lovers of the musician going crazy on you. You leave it on Vic's vid, and we all just laugh at it. Life lesson for ya; no one will ever take anyone who insults victor wooten seriously.

  • "Token you're black, you can play bass"

  • Hahaha, YES!

  • minchia ma i neri sono superdotati in tutto!

  • ooooh. commented too soon. he goes into it. lol

  • Why does everyone say this is caravan? I thought this was a night in tunsia

  • he plays night in tunisia and caravan so everyones right

  • Il migliore...

    Nessuno come lui.

  • So inspirational.

This guy is the most technically talented I've ever seen.

  • OMG Caravan !!!

  • Giust'appunto mi serviva un bassista per un gruppo coverband locale dei gazzosa...che dite lui sarebbe sprecato???

    apparte scherzi, è un grande!

  • VICTOR WOOTEN !!!FAAAAANTASIC

  • Imagine being able to sit at home and create that shit. thats wat lifes about expression like that

  • Victor is a ecclectic bass guitarist. Victor like Hendrix imitated tecniques and styles of great musicians before him. This dedication to imitate their guitar heroes increased their ability to be more innovative and creative.

  • Victor is a ecclectic bass guitarist. Victor like Hendrix imitated tecniques and styles of great musicians before him. This dedication to imitate their guitar heroes increased their ability to be more innovative and creative.

  • yo caravan!

  • @bernie: don't you talk that shit!!! it's just sexistic and has got even nothing to do with this geat bass playing!!

  • towards the end he plays norwegian wood

  • He uses fodera basses

  • I dont want to sound like an idiot but what bass does he use?

  • Vic only uses Fodera basses, that's his 4 string Yin-Yang model, you can buy replicas etc. from Fodera

  • but it´s very expensive :)

  • Yeah what he said...AWESOME!!!!!!!

  • es un puto dios este ombreeeee

  • victor doesnt have bad days...and he is full of technical skill

  • This is Vic on a bad day, which really goes to show how incredible he is.

  • This is victor on a bad day i think.

    Mans still my idol, though

  • lord have mercy, that is a *real* musician.

  • Pfff.. Who's the man? Victor is....

  • yiiiir victor rocks¨ han er sku go:D

  • he is one of the best bass players that i ever saw, he is better than jhon deacon

  • The first song that he plays is called Night in Tunisia.

  • Thanks I knew i heard it before. i'm,ashamed that i forgot, sorry dizzy.

  • No the first song he plays is called "The Vision" off of his "A Show of Hands" Album (for MadSceve)

  • I just figured he was talking about the first one not written by him :P Yeah.

  • Why? Because the technical level of all his stuff is astounding.

  • its not really flaming, we're just letting you know how stupid you are for disliking victor

  • does anyone know the first song he plays, from 0:00-3:00

  • im so happy....AND U MUST BE HAPPY TOO

    love everyone yo

    great bass

    so nice

  • Unbelievable. really. one of the few bassists worth mentioning. Wooten, claypool, flea, chancellor. but he does have a style all his own and should be hoisted upon our shoulders

  • he is good but a little bit cheesy...but he fucking plya good!

  • 1st you're an illiterate asshole who can't spell and 2nd, the only thing cheesy is the build up under your balls you fucking moron. Of course he plyas good, HE'S VICTOR FUCKING LEMONTE WOOTEN, THE ONE AND ONLY!!!!!!!!!

  • shut up fag

  • yea the best kind of cheesee. shooot!

  • lol i love when my comments go like that :D

  • What's the song called he starts playing in the last few seconds of the vid?

  • The next song is called Mad Hatter. He plays it together with jeff coffin. that vid is also on youtube. try searching with: Victor wooten sax jeff coffin or something. it's the guy with the yellow/orange/red hawaii shirt at the picture. enjoy =)

  • I like 3:20 where it goes into the more melodic style. Victor is Awesome!

  • i guess it is, as far as i remember he used to tune one of his other basses differently (A-D-G-C maybe)

  • does anyone know if this is standard tuning?

  • his got a-d-g-c strings

  • figures

  • He uses Tenor Basses for a lot of his solo pieces. So yeah, A-D-G-C

  • its the vision

but with tasty licks in between parts.

    love him..

no one stands close to this man.

  • i don't care if it's sloppy, he's got great style, doesn't just stick to usual bass solo conventions...

i think there was hardly any plucking involved...

  • thats not sloppy!

  • i know, someone else put it earlier though...

  • 00:19 it sounds like the old capcom intro. Wowzer, Vic. What incredible style.

  • He probably had to go pee.

  • Man I gotta transcribe that! Amazing as always!

  • hmmm how bout a stanley clark, victor wooten show down?

  • He is like away, away... nobody close to what & how he does it. He is a MASTER - He is Master Melodic... Charlie Parker on BASS he is...

  • i ve been playing bass for 20 years never seen something like this guy is just too much i m gonna quit playing bass

  • wow you sound like me, and I've only been playing for 6

  • i play almost a year :-)

doesn't seem so hard to me as i tried it.

but yea he can get that groove in it and i don't, yet.

  • what are you a fkin idiot or what? doesnt seem so hard? yep your a fkin idiot.

  • i like 2:31. it sounds like hes slapping and popping.

  • I get the impression he's in a rush or something. Like, he's not his usual self here. Hard to explain.

  • Yeah, I get that, too. Sloppier than usual for Wooten. And not relaxed at all. Not one of his best, for sure.

  • there may be some who have a flashier look when they play, but with Victor, you get the kind of sound you can enjoy with your eyes closed, not distracted by how great it LOOKS. music is a hearing art, as i'm sure we all know. and he plays great QUIETLY!! amazing.

  • i agree completely, music shouldn't be about the crazy moves the guitarist makes, its gotta sound good, when the move take over the music it does nothing for me

  • DUDE! He took riffs off a Charlie Parker song!!! THATS AMAZING!!!! 1:49 its the same as Bird's "Don't Blame Me"!

I just like Charlie Parker alot, and heard one of his tunes in here. Its awesome.

  • Wasn't that from "Night in Tunisia" from Dizzy Gillespie? Amazing either way...

  • Well part of it is in Don't Blame Me, but part of it could be in one of Gillespie's pieces. This guy pulled music from everywhere.
