when i played the final boss i was so sad for two reasons, one the game was ending and two the song was too beatiful it fits perfectly with the last battle
This in italian with japanese accent, I'm italian so I can traduce: With the hands full of "picked" flowers I leave them on these lake The light in the dark reflect in the water The moons, here, are two If i offer lot of pink flowers At the shining mood The travel will begin The wind increases, the wood sing The light of the mood guide me, sure To the next travel But, also if it will delete all of white i have no fear because are here
translation for those who care: the wings of the principle With herhands full of flowers collected I leave them on the lake The light in the darkness, is reflected in the 'water and moons, here, are two If I offer many pink flowers the moon shines will begin its journey Salt wind, the forest sings The moonlight guides me, safe, to the next world But even if you erase all in white I am not afraid because here are
The feeling of this music mixed with the experience of that final boss, words cannot describe the trembling bittersweet feelings I had while fighting this boss
Sakuraba Motoi. Baten Kaitos Origins. Le Ali del Principio.
I had been looking for this song for such a long time... I remembered it from the time when Gena opens her magnificent wings and from the end of the battle against the final boss.
This song is just so beautiful... Thank you so much for uploading it.
A translation for you all (not 100% accurate, but at least it isn't Google Translate): With my hands full of collected flowers I put them on the lake The light, in darkness, is reflecting on water And the moon, here, is too If I offer so many pink flowers To the shining moon He will begin the journey I climb on the wind, the woods are singing The moonlight, surely, is guiding me To the next world But even if he vanishes All in white I'm not afraid Because here they are
it was so diffrent i didnt even relize motoi sakuraba did this im use to hearing it sound alike is eternal sonata, tales games, and star ocean new hope but this is maybe the best work he done, and this to me dosent sound like batlle music, to me it has to sound awsome or upbeat or both
@BabyFantasiaxx Pretty much anyone that has played Baten Kaitos loves them. I haven't met anyone who has said otherwise, you either haven't heard of the game, or you love it to death.
Not only that, but none of it was padding or a waste. Sure, some sidequests take a while, but story-wise, everything is special. The characters interact, change, and grow. They are strange, yet also familiar and relatable, a welcome affect that comes with a story putting the player above whatever it wants to say.
This story had to be a video game. Had it have been told in any other medium, it would have suffered. You are a key part of the story, not just as a spirit, but as a player.
@helios5868 I feel the same way. And yes, it is better. In absolutely every way you can imagine. They kept the things the first one did right (music, visuals, one of the best plot twists ever in a game) and vastly improved what was wrong with the first one. The battle system is faster and much easier to manage, the characters are MUCH more likable and nowhere near as cliched, and it has some of the best humor I've ever seen. And in stark contrast to the first one, almost nothing is missable.
I swear, the best thing about this song is how they use it in the game. When I first heard it used in it's final setting, I just couldn't believe how much feeling it added to the event!
Though I can't help but wonder what the title means. I haven't been able to peg it down so far. Anyone feeling helpful?
Just read it on Motoi Sakuraba notes on SNES library, the singer is his/her own sister Oo and she was only 9 years old when she sang this. The kid did an incredible job.
Wow, this has always been one of my favorite video game songs, but I never knew that about it! Never realized how personal it was for Sakuraba. Has that much more meaning for me now. Thanks!
Living in Europe sure is hell for us gamers. We don't get many of those good games. Most games we get are crappy casual games. They can be fun at times, but epic games such as this one are just games we can fantasize about.
One of my favourite games. :) Since I live in Europe I had to import it, but I never regretted it. This song is so emotional, i nearly cried of no reason. The battle and the music were just too beautiful.
This was the best game on the gamecube the story may have been confuzing but the gamplay was great and creative god now i want to play it everytime i listen to the music from the series its the best RPG music i've listend to next to Tales Of Symphonia or Morrowind
I agree. What I think I like about BKO (even though it was never released in Europe, I saw it all on omegaevolution's channel XD) is the fact that it says both the spiritual and the man-made have a place in the world, and it's nice to see a game about balance rather than just outright saying that one is better than the other.
I love both of the 2 game, for each personal reason, bk2 more dynamic more quest, but less centered on character background, but bk first one is cool too with epic story and character, much more dungeon and battle tactic card
Motoi Sakuraba is my favourite videogame music composer ever. He's inspired me to become a composer myself one day. In fact, it was this game that made me consider going into video game composition in the first place! :D
Origins is arguably even better than the original Baten Kaitos. The characters are in general more likable, much funnier (the humor alone makes the game worthwhile), and definitely better voice-acted. The music and graphics are on about the same level, and this game has a plot twist about as shocking as what happened in Lava Caves in the original. The battle system has also changed significantly; whether this is an improvement is something few agree on, though it definitely makes battles faster.
The battle system is this game's major flaw, as it takes away from the true experience.
The only way to beat BK1 was to actually know how to use the battle system well, not just know what cards are powerful (as the cards by themselves were simply just too weak, and waiting for a special or random ultra card wasn't your best bet).
Also, if you're good at any card game, e.g. Poker, you're good at BK.
Thats the mark of a good game. Needing to know how the game works isn't a flaw but rather its how games are supposed to work. Its unique and in order to fully enjoy the game you need to embrace that uniqueness. In an era where many games play identically its nice to have something different, because thats the point of buying a new game. Why should I buy a new RPG if it'll only offer the same experience as the last?
2 is awesome as well. i think BK's plot was a bit more interesting, but the gameplay in BKO was fast paced and fun. Plus the VO was way better, and idk why but i think it has a bit more replay value. anyway if u dont have it and u liked the first, definately buy this one.
Its a prequel of the game some people consider it better than the first one, I havent played the first one so I couldnt tell you, but this one is my favorite RPG i think you need to play it man
You should definitely try the first one. I list both games as my third favorite game of all time. I list them as one for several reasons, one is that I can't choose, two is that they compliment each other beautifully. One thing though is the knowledge of who Malpercio really is makes the game difficult in an emotional sort of way.
just finished the game about an hour ago... man, that thing about malpercio is... i mean, when i found out i was like "HOLY....!!!!! REALLY?!?!" This game involves you not only in a "player only-way", but it actually makes you an ACTIVE part of the game itself... correct me if i'm wrong, but i dont recall any other game doing so... A F*CKIN MASTERPIECE!!! I LOVE BOTH BATEN KAITOS
just when everything seems lost... all your comrades (and I mean YOUR comrades, not Sagi's -seph, pieda, etc- you know what I mean) come to Sagi's aid, and this songs starts playing... it kinda gives you the strength to keep fighting... and HOLY CRAP the song stays for the REAL final battle... jesus... I cried alright... MARVELOUS!!!!
@timonator14 You shitting me? I felt psyched and rearing to go when I got to this fight, it was actually the first part with the mechanical tentacles protecting Verus that was an absolute bitch for a bit until I figured the pattern out and managed to get the combo necessary to KO him. It felt SO good to wail on Verus Wiseman's ass, of course, I think that's in part due to the announcer saying "FIGHT!" at the beginning of the match.
@IcedEarthaholic Ha ha, I was talking about fighting "Malpercio" in BK:EWLO, that one felt empty. On the other hand, giving Wiseman what he deserved felt really good.
@guimogardo Oh yeah, I recall getting to this fight and saying to myself "Yes, this is it! Time to kick some serious ass!" even with this song playing in the background I was pumped and ready to go against Verus Wiseman, that announcer saying "FIGHT!" made all the difference with this game, such an awesome touch he was. It felt SO good to wail on Verus Wiseman's ass!
baten kaitos (in my opinion) is the only game with a story line beautiful enough to match up to a great game like FFX. If Baten Kaitos were in the hands of a better company, with a little more money, it would've been possibly the greatest RPG of all time. It already is...but only for the few of us that actually have heard of it...It was so terribly underrated!
i completely agree, so many people refuse to play it just cuz of the card system its a shame really, cuz BK and BKO were some of my favorite rpgs of all time
its already a good game if handled by another company they would give it changes and besides it may have been screwed up the only problem is only a few of us know of this beutiful rpg
Yeah honestly the great thing about this game is you use your imagination to fill the small flaws it has...like the voice acting >_> Other games just lay down a concrete story line...like here it is... The great thing about this game is that there's always room for dreams.
i really loved this game. the soundtrack is pretty awesome, too bad it seems impossible to play a 3rd baten kaitos games in the years to come. i love BKO more than many others rpgs around
i have to agree once i played the first one and came to the second i hated the second and didnt play it for like 3 years i got up to the holoholo bird and was like screw this!!! so i left it then i came back 3 years later started a new game and beat it and i have to say this was one of the most epic games i have ever played
this is from the final battle Warning * spolier read at ur own risk this is when sagi gains the powers from thoran seph um the fat one and pieda and u defeat verus wiseman if ur good enough :P
This is the most beautiful song to ever appear in a video game, surpassing even the legendary Aria di Mezzo Carattere. In three years of trying, and with new consoles to work with, nothing has yet matched this masterpiece, or even come close. Perhaps it's even the most beautiful song made for any medium. Truly Sakuraba's best work.
My only real issue with this game is the lack of replay value. I would've loved a hard mode or something, but no such task was offered. Otherwise, as this song beautifully portrays, the overall game was magnificent. I completed the game under both endings just yesterday, and it was incredible. I still have yet to beat Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean, but that's my next goal. If it's anything like this masterpiece, I'm sure to enjoy it. =]
Baten Kaitos Origins was the best game ever released on the Gamecube, probably the best game ever. This song, as it is used in the story, in the final battle and in the "Heart to Heart" sequence, produces the most moving moment in a video game of all time, for me anyway. I agree with OhMySong in that it just feels right for the final battle. I admit that this was the first and only time a video game made me cry. I could talk about Baten Kaitos Origins all day, but it was just beautiful.
You can really feel the power coming from this song. It adds a lot to an already uplifting moment. No one would have expected such a song to be used as a Final Boss theme, and yet it feels so right. I salute Motoi Sakuraba and his talented family.
If you ask me, FFVII is massively, *massively* overrated. It's been surpassed several times by much grander, more charming titles and series'. The Baten Kaitos series are just one of those.
So irked that this didn't get to Europe. Well, at least YouTube has the music in abundance.
And damn, Sakuraba's daughter has an amazing voice.
I always wanted to play it!! I played the original BK and actually loved everything of it...
And I STRONGLY disagree that FFVII is "massively" overrated. It was an absolute breakthrough when it appeared, because of its music, plot, characters, graphics in that time... I think it's safe to say that along with its appearance came a lot of great RPGs, most of them unpopular, sadly enough. It has opened a lot of doors, and it still does.
When FF7 came along, though, many great (and arguably better) series, such as Suikoden, got ignored. What's more... I felt the quality of games started to go down after FF7. I must say, though, that the Tactics Team games, as well as FF9, were gems. I loved them.
Anywho, FF7 was an okay game. The only reason people loved it was because it was the first to go 3D. But as many will tell you, the graphics don't make the game... I wasn't exactly wowed by it.
Oh man, I remember seeing someone fight the last boss battle for Baten Kaitos Origins, hearing the announcer say "Fight!" while this song played in the background, I had to go get the game the next day, and I am so glad I did.
This and the first Baten Kaitos are THE RPGs to get on the Cube, honest to fucking God, this song is beautiful, and those two games? Both have proven to be Sakuraba's best works to date. Though Infinite Undiscovery also has an incredible soundtrack, they top it.
I'm still pissed that most people in US/Japan don't have the nerve to pick up the game. My cousin couldn't decide on a new game to by one day, so he chose BK. Then he let me play it. We both loved it, and when BKO came around, I got it.
I just wish people wou8ld play the game and talk about wehat all it deserves, so a third could come out.
This game is just so beautiful.... I think it can teach everyone a lesson about real life politics and the nature of humanity. I like the fact that you(Setyll) annotated how innovative it is as well.
When i fight the boss to this game i sometimes die to start over and take in the aura of the last battle the game. And wow alot of RPG fans from europe. I have nothing agianst you but wowwee.
I'm so happy that you picked this as a top song, but I don't really think of it as a battle song. More like a theme song to the game. Still, it's one of my favorite pieces of vg music.
This is beautiful...just out of laughs sake, If ever I was to face an evil demonic entity in battle I probably would like this theme to be in the background, too bad that's never going to happen...oh well...
Maybe when I die I'll get wings...ha ha ha ha....or maybe not.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Not to get into it but I know it IS a battle theme, I said I disagree that it is not a REAL one, meaning that in MY opinion it is not..., this is not meant to tick you off but just to make myself clear but the way I always see it is that 'battle' themes are numerous and return several times in a game, in my opinion and what I therefor tried to say is that this is a 'Boss' theme and to me there has always been a difference and that was all I tried to say.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Besides 'eternal wings and the lost ocean' the best game ever made but I have to disagree with one thing; this is not a 'real' battle theme since it only belongs to the absolute final (hidden) boss, I mean the first time I cleared the game I didn't even get that fight (I know...I suck)
Baten Kaitos actually came out first, Origins was the sequel. But since the story takes place 20 years (I think) before BK its a prequel. The game was only released in US and only playable in PAL regions with a GCN and Freeloader boot disc unfortunately.
The second RPG piece ever to actually almost move me to the point of tears. The first was another song in Origins, though ironically I can't remember its name.
Beautiful :"(

baten kaitos (in my opinion) is the only game with a story line beautiful enough to match up to a great game like FFX. If Baten Kaitos were in the hands of a better company, with a little more money, it would've been possibly the greatest RPG of all time. It already is...but only for the few of us that actually have heard of it...It was so terribly underrated!
arterialshadow 2 years ago 5
i completely agree, so many people refuse to play it just cuz of the card system its a shame really, cuz BK and BKO were some of my favorite rpgs of all time
j2lewis 2 years ago 2
its already a good game if handled by another company they would give it changes and besides it may have been screwed up the only problem is only a few of us know of this beutiful rpg
lordratatosk 2 years ago
Yeah honestly the great thing about this game is you use your imagination to fill the small flaws it has...like the voice acting >_> Other games just lay down a concrete story line...like here it is... The great thing about this game is that there's always room for dreams.
arterialshadow 2 years ago
i dont think of voices as flaws i aint picking to me it goes along making it to me the greatest rpg i ever played
lordratatosk 2 years ago
lol i was playing it and my mom was like "what a pretty song!" : D
ohohoho my mom likes video game music @w@

i love this song... :D , baten kaitos origins is one of my favorite games , i like the final battle when you fight verus-wiseman ;D
lightasran 2 years ago
this is from the final battle Warning * spolier read at ur own risk this is when sagi gains the powers from thoran seph um the fat one and pieda and u defeat verus wiseman if ur good enough :P

I like to call songs like this 'quietly epic'.
OathsUnsworn 2 years ago 2
omg so beautiful. But i dont remember any battle with this song.
Someone know when this song is played?
EtherealBurst 2 years ago
This is the most beautiful song to ever appear in a video game, surpassing even the legendary Aria di Mezzo Carattere. In three years of trying, and with new consoles to work with, nothing has yet matched this masterpiece, or even come close. Perhaps it's even the most beautiful song made for any medium. Truly Sakuraba's best work.
EcianZarian 2 years ago
My only real issue with this game is the lack of replay value. I would've loved a hard mode or something, but no such task was offered. Otherwise, as this song beautifully portrays, the overall game was magnificent. I completed the game under both endings just yesterday, and it was incredible. I still have yet to beat Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean, but that's my next goal. If it's anything like this masterpiece, I'm sure to enjoy it. =]

i haven't played this game yet, but baten kaitos 1 is one of my favorite RPGs. ever.

Isn't replay value just the simple desire go replay the game? I have an itch to go run through both right now...

OathsUnsworn 2 years ago 9
Just so everyone knows. Mio Sakuraba was 9 when she sang this song.
Coramelimane 2 years ago
I love this game. It is my favorite RPG to date.
You can really feel the power coming from this song. It adds a lot to an already uplifting moment. No one would have expected such a song to be used as a Final Boss theme, and yet it feels so right. I salute Motoi Sakuraba and his talented family.
OhMySong 2 years ago 6
It´s the best RPG I ever played... and I played FF VII.
This game is unique, wonderfull and beutyfull, great in every form...
how bad it didn't succeded...
cuquira95 2 years ago 4
If you ask me, FFVII is massively, *massively* overrated. It's been surpassed several times by much grander, more charming titles and series'. The Baten Kaitos series are just one of those.
So irked that this didn't get to Europe. Well, at least YouTube has the music in abundance.
And damn, Sakuraba's daughter has an amazing voice.
SeraphimSwordmaster 2 years ago 3
Indeed, she does.
Sakuraba's family is talented: Sakuraba composed it, his wife Yuko wrote the lyrics and Mio used her amazing voice.
Result = Pure win
cuquira95 2 years ago 2
Wow. That's amazing.
I think what amazes me the most though was that she was only nine. Wonder if she'll end up getting involved in music in some form like her father.
I think the only flaw about this song is that now that I've heard, I don't think any final boss theme is ever going to compare to it ever again, Lol.
SeraphimSwordmaster 2 years ago
Agreed, I found FF7 boring actually. It's when the FF series started going way downhill, with the occasional exception.
Sakuraba does indeed have excellent composing skills, though. I cannot wait to see what he does with Golden Sun DS...

Finally! Someone agrees! =D
SeraphimSwordmaster 2 years ago
damn finally golden sun reappears i hope its very good i loved the first one. and this game was so wonderful.
linksoldier1 2 years ago
I always wanted to play it!! I played the original BK and actually loved everything of it...
And I STRONGLY disagree that FFVII is "massively" overrated. It was an absolute breakthrough when it appeared, because of its music, plot, characters, graphics in that time... I think it's safe to say that along with its appearance came a lot of great RPGs, most of them unpopular, sadly enough. It has opened a lot of doors, and it still does.
Firebrand88 2 years ago 2
When FF7 came along, though, many great (and arguably better) series, such as Suikoden, got ignored. What's more... I felt the quality of games started to go down after FF7. I must say, though, that the Tactics Team games, as well as FF9, were gems. I loved them.
Anywho, FF7 was an okay game. The only reason people loved it was because it was the first to go 3D. But as many will tell you, the graphics don't make the game... I wasn't exactly wowed by it.
RoleOfAQS 2 years ago

I can see that whoever composed this put a lot of effort into it. But how is this a good battle theme?
BoxingFly01 3 years ago
I'm so happy that you picked this as a top song, but I don't really think of it as a battle song. More like a theme song to the game. Still, it's one of my favorite pieces of vg music.
suiriryoku 3 years ago
trust me! it really fits the final boss
tarkeke 3 years ago 4
Incredible, it`s such a beautiful song... inspiring even... another excellent pice from the great Motoi Sakuraba.
DragonTrainer0510 3 years ago 4
This is beautiful...just out of laughs sake, If ever I was to face an evil demonic entity in battle I probably would like this theme to be in the background, too bad that's never going to happen...oh well...
Maybe when I die I'll get wings...ha ha ha ha....or maybe not.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Not to get into it but I know it IS a battle theme, I said I disagree that it is not a REAL one, meaning that in MY opinion it is not..., this is not meant to tick you off but just to make myself clear but the way I always see it is that 'battle' themes are numerous and return several times in a game, in my opinion and what I therefor tried to say is that this is a 'Boss' theme and to me there has always been a difference and that was all I tried to say.
ripley4O77 3 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Besides 'eternal wings and the lost ocean' the best game ever made but I have to disagree with one thing; this is not a 'real' battle theme since it only belongs to the absolute final (hidden) boss, I mean the first time I cleared the game I didn't even get that fight (I know...I suck)
ripley4O77 3 years ago
Even if it's hidden, it is still the song played during a battle- hence, a battle theme.
ArkRiley 3 years ago 7
You serious? I've played origins 3 times and I always got... you know. (No spoilers here) How did you not get that fight?

I've beaten it already, but there's no need to spoil this incredible game's plot for no apparent reason.
caleb724 3 years ago 3
This would explain why i've never seen this one, i've only ever played what i assume to be the sequel, Baten Kaitos Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean
ErikaSpiritAngel 3 years ago
Baten Kaitos actually came out first, Origins was the sequel. But since the story takes place 20 years (I think) before BK its a prequel. The game was only released in US and only playable in PAL regions with a GCN and Freeloader boot disc unfortunately.
SetyII 3 years ago
The second RPG piece ever to actually almost move me to the point of tears. The first was another song in Origins, though ironically I can't remember its name.
