Επειδη βλεπω καποιους να συγκρινουν τον ηγετη Ι.Μεταξα με τους θλιβερους καταστροφικους παπαδοπουλοπραξικοπηματοιες,θελω να τονισω οτι ο Μεταξας ηταν εξυπνοτερος απο ολους τους χαζοτσομπανους μαζι.Ο ενας εφτιαξε μια εθνικα συσπειρωμενη Ελλαδα,νικησε τους Ιταλους,εφτιαξε ενα κοινωνικο κρατος,ενω οι μεν (μαζι με τον κρετινο Μακαριο)εχασαν την Κυπρο κ ανοιξαν τον δρομο στη μεταπολιτευση,μεγαλο μερος της χυδαιοτητας τηςοποιας κληρονομηθηκε απο τους καφροχουνταιους.

Yes. Metaxas was an authoritarian leader but he did undertake widespread social reforms. His regieme is not even remotely cmparable to the abuse of liberties that took place in Italy and Germany. His devotion to Greece and his patriotism are above reproach. (And no, I'm not Greek!)
U know metaxas was a fascist dictator who copied Mussolini and Hitler, right? The only things that made them different were the fact he was not a racist and that he did not want an empire like the other two. It was for that reason Greece was invaded. So he wasn't as bad as the others, but that doesn't make him good.

What I mean by it is that the reason Germany, Japan and Italy all got along was because they all wanted the same thing, empire. Hitler was willing to allow Japan to have theirs to the east in the pacific, and italy to control some of the mediteranian, so long as they both helped him build his own. Metaxas had no wish for empire, he only wanted to make greece strong again, so the other facsist leaders, who should have been his allies, viewed him as weak, and greece as the same.
Yeah, but Mussolini wanted to expand his empire, saw the greek as weak and took his shot. Hitler, then furious, saw the opportunity for more land, and struck also. Had Metaxas started building an empire, had he invaded maybe turkey, yugoslavia and some other states the other two would have let him be, would have perhaps helped him. But the fact he just stood as he was and did nothing was the reason Greece was invaded.
Had Metaxas expanded to the East and North, Mussolini would have find an opportunity to invade Greece earlier. Hitler helped Italy in Greece for 2 reasons:to preserve the prestige of the Axxis (Greece won in the Greco-italian war) and to prevent the english troops from occupying any strategic place in Greece.

Anyway, its really nice that you have so much interest in history ;) ..So,if it's any helpful at all I 'd like to add this: Metaxas' foreign policy was convenient to Hitler's plans for specific reasons (that made him furious later):Metaxas held a succesfull neutral stance, keeping good relations with both Axxis and Allies and still avoiding to help either of them in this war; this meant that Hitler would never have to fear of any english military presence in Greece.

Yes. Metaxas was an authoritarian leader but he did undertake widespread social reforms. His regieme is not even remotely cmparable to the abuse of liberties that took place in Italy and Germany. His devotion to Greece and his patriotism are above reproach. (And no, I'm not Greek!)

U know metaxas was a fascist dictator who copied Mussolini and Hitler, right? The only things that made them different were the fact he was not a racist and that he did not want an empire like the other two. It was for that reason Greece was invaded. So he wasn't as bad as the others, but that doesn't make him good.

What I mean by it is that the reason Germany, Japan and Italy all got along was because they all wanted the same thing, empire. Hitler was willing to allow Japan to have theirs to the east in the pacific, and italy to control some of the mediteranian, so long as they both helped him build his own. Metaxas had no wish for empire, he only wanted to make greece strong again, so the other facsist leaders, who should have been his allies, viewed him as weak, and greece as the same.

I don't disagree with that, but still, you forget that Hitler did not want Italy to invade Greece.
He did not want a new front in the Balcans and Mussolini's decision to invade Greece on 28 October 1940 surprised Hitler and made him furious.
It wasn't the Axxis that wanted Greece occupied, but Mussolini.

Yeah, but Mussolini wanted to expand his empire, saw the greek as weak and took his shot. Hitler, then furious, saw the opportunity for more land, and struck also. Had Metaxas started building an empire, had he invaded maybe turkey, yugoslavia and some other states the other two would have let him be, would have perhaps helped him. But the fact he just stood as he was and did nothing was the reason Greece was invaded.

Had Metaxas expanded to the East and North, Mussolini would have find an opportunity to invade Greece earlier. Hitler helped Italy in Greece for 2 reasons:to preserve the prestige of the Axxis (Greece won in the Greco-italian war) and to prevent the english troops from occupying any strategic place in Greece.

Anyway, its really nice that you have so much interest in history ;) ..So,if it's any helpful at all I 'd like to add this: Metaxas' foreign policy was convenient to Hitler's plans for specific reasons (that made him furious later):Metaxas held a succesfull neutral stance, keeping good relations with both Axxis and Allies and still avoiding to help either of them in this war; this meant that Hitler would never have to fear of any english military presence in Greece.

You are more than right. See the war in Smyrna. My grandfather swam out to an american ship. Was not allowed to boasrd. A JAPANESSE ship picked him up. The Brits and U.S urged Greece to start the war then backed off. Remember the Turks fought with the Axis in WW1-Didn't enter WWII till the very end.See Churchill"Had the Greeks not upset the Axis timetable by 6 mos. giv ing Britain time to ready the war for Britain may have been lost.

Ωραίος! Συγχαρητήρια. Μιας και λέμε για λάθη, ένα είναι το ουσιώδες, που κάνουν όλοι οι μεγάλοι ηγέτες. Δεν προνοούν να υπάρχει κάποιος άξιος να ακολου8ήσει το έργο τους. Οι σχολές δημόσιας διοίκησης, τα διδακτορικά σε διεθνείς σχέσεις, τα μετάλλια ανδραγαθείας και ευδόκιμου στρατιωτικής θητείας θα έπρεπε να είναι ΥΠΟΧΡΕΩΤΙΚΑ για κάθε υποψήφιο πολιτικό άνδρα.
