  • Tom Waits is smart although it is interesting.

    It is Cool!

  • Redemption.

  • could it be possible the're are records of Tom Waits not bursting of talent?

  • said it before and i do not mind repeating myself myself this man is the greatest

  • This is the perfect "Saturday night (or weekend)" song. Waits captures it all with this one.

  • b. 1949 Pomona CA is 6 ft. Married since 1980 with 3 kids

  • @mangledinal Mark Lanegan has to be one of those 3

there's just no possible way he isn't the spawn of Tom Waits

  • sad-ur-dayee ni-ee. I can die happy.

  • Its great to hear all the jokes from Nighthawks in a different light.

  • The early Waits is the best! Especially the first two albums. Simply pure love

  • What a wonderful spiel with which to start a song. Tom is amazing.

  • I honestly don't think I would have gotten through the past few years of my life without Tom Waits' music.

  • @FatherLucho I'm in the same boat, dude.

  • @seymourbeetle He's good for long nights and stiff drink.

  • This guy, Tom Waits, he's always out to make me cry. And most of the time I can't stop myself from doing just that, listening to him. He simply gets to close to the emotional parts of me.

  • Tom Waits is beauty at it's peak.

  • I saw Tom play the Bushnell in Hartford CT 1978, fresh out of th eArmy and a freshman in college who's idea of crazy was Bob Dylan. Tom leaned on the Mike stand a nd drank a fifth of whiskey and smoked a pack of cigarettes and left an impression on me for the next 33 years, He is pure genius in a league of his own.

  • @Tebbek Wow!! What an experience :)

  • Genuin and genious

  • ha i remember havin a beer with this guy in the haight back in 91 had noidea who he was and for a brief and lasting moment i was awesomely stunned

  • Este wey es Bukowski cantando, lo amo!!!!

  • Agree on Neko Case and add : Nick Cave , Townes Van Zandt and late period Johnny Cash !

  • They dont make toms like this one anymore, to many idiots looking for their 15 mins of fame instead of making a TRUE statement about what they believe in. To many plastics singers looking to make a quick buck. Hope singers and yourself last for ever TOM, thank you.

  • a true American original

  • My all-time hero

  • adanacman666 - you were 1112 years old when you first heard this? Gawd what age are you now?

  • I can't believe he's only 26 here. Holy crap.

  • first got exposed to this album in 1990 and it changed my life...never heard stuff so beautiful.

  • I think I found my heart listening to the heart of Saturday night. Thx Tom <3

  • love this song and this man

  • ...a bona fide high voltage bachelor......:o)

  • crazy & brilliant

  • Man he was stoned

And the intro story sounds so much funnier on the"Nighthawks" album

  • @riffolaorg Wasn't he more of an alcoholic, than a stoner? Besides, that's just his style, his persona if you will.

  • @EatPieYes Yeah he was into the heavy stuff (alcohol). You're right, this is just how he is on and off the stuff.

  • Love him.

  • how can someone possibly dislike this?

  • Listen. Tom Waits was singing the Heart of Saturday Night, she held the remote control in her hand, bumped up the volume, danced in her glory and sang along with Tom, makes it kind of quiver down in the core 'cause you're dreamin' of them Saturdays that came before and now you're stumblin' you're stumblin' onto the heart of Saturday night...

  • @copperegrets She clutched the remote control against her heart and she sang so damn loud the windows rattled, she thought her aching heart would explode into its own passionate melody. She swayed her hips slow and sweet... this was her virginal toast to life. She tumbled all the way down into a well filled with midnight magnolias and again sang along with Tom…

  • @copperegrets Tryin' to wipe out ev'ry trace of all the other days in the week you know that this'll be the Saturday you're reachin' your peak, her skin pumping out goose bumps. She suddenly remembered that it was Friday, that she'd better get her blissful self together for her meet-up with the heart of Saturday night.

  • speechless so much talent

  • There's a dutch comedian or "caberatier" whom ripped of the intire skit he uses in the beginning. I love him though but coming across this is a -1 for him and +10 for tom. great

  • "my coffee wasn't strong enough to defend itself."

    this guy is a genius

  • this is so righteous,

every girl in the audience must have wet themselves during the monologue

just FYI, Madeleine Peyroux does this very proud, she infuses it with all the romance, longing and sweetness it deserves...

  • they rarely make artists like this anymore

  • @beefy142 i think thats the problem... they make them today... Artists are born talented & creative people, not the produce of 3 people judging some pathetic loon

  • @beefy142

They, who? These individuals make their own talent. That's why they call it talent

  • @lbk000 ease up, clown. He/she was just giving up props and you have to make an argument out of semantics. Sheesh.

  • Genius... American Idol can suck it....

  • All I can say is some peolpe have the ability to touch your soul. For Tom, it'e second nature

  • its hard to explain how much i dig this guy

  • I got to know his music when I was about 23 years of age, I am 53 now and it seems so long ago (it is ofcourse.....:-)) , but it still touches my heart every time I listen to mr. Waits...

  • Look how young he is!! Your a genius Tom. You make me smile and sing X

  • Gettin' me through these last 2 1/2 months of the deployment man. Husband's overseas, in the Army. Been gone for about 10. Almost home. Come Summer time it'll finally be all over. Things are a lot easier now that your music is in my life. Thanks Tom <3

  • I like your choice of music...very much like mine. Tom Waits near the top of my list. You could try Dan Hicks and his Hot Licks...Sid Page violin...song- I Scare Myself.

  • Right, prcpntr, it is. Strange idea this vid is 35 years old. He hasnt really changed that much.

  • I spent last saturday with a good friend of mine and a bottle of rum and the best we did was sing this song, and it's actually the best thing any person can do, ever

  • Yes, yes, Mister Waits, indeed. I have staggered through this life with you at my side, in the most platonic way, for many years. Oh, since, at least 1991 or so when I haphazardly rented the movie, Night on Earth. Oh, that voice. You reached out and grabbed this lonely innocent. You got me through. I can't even describe what all you got me through. You inspired me. You moved me. You touched me, and nothing else ever had. Kisses and hugs and anything else you might like (whatever that is)! cory

  • Every now and than I stop by to listen to mr. Waits, and every time he touches my heart again and again. A great poet, who knows how to paint life with his his music and lyrics........

  • Tom if ya wanna find the heart of Saturday night

she's in Austin, Texas....she's got every beat, oh man and she gets every one right and she'll get ya home on time...she's cruisin' down the boulevard...brighter than any headlight...but she ain't nothin' like your father's Oldsmobile..she'll be takin' flight and she'll be takin' the heart of Saturday night...

  • At the end of the world, show this on a giant screen and say, if all we can do or have done is provide Tom Waits to this miserable world, then we have done a good thing. Take us into oblivion....

  • @ZZZZAS haha, you must know my ex-girlfriend. hit that nail on the head, my friend.

  • awesome cat !!

  • it makes him RICH.

  • magical.....pure genius

    thank you for posting

  • the coffee wasn't strong enough to defend itself, lol

  • bim! dans ma gueule!

  • Genius.

  • I saw him at Carnegie music hall in Pittsburgh in 1973. He was drunk but played and sang so soulful. It was a very magical vibe!

  • Thank you - Dj

  • Saw him first in San Francisco in 1974. Listened to him ever since. Sang a couple hymns on one album that I deleted, but minor problm

  • Ol' Tom. Saw him live in Washington DC in, Good Lord, must'a been 1973. He was drunk, of course, but performed this song. Man, I was hooked, then and there. I been hooked ever since.

  • Up to 2:30, the lyrics werre from 'better off without a wife.'

  • been reading all posts for this guy alls i can say is that i first heard this guy when i was 11 12 years old watching mike douglas back in the 70s they were trying to make fun of him then he sang invitation to the blues they didnt make too much fun of him after that.He is the most relavent artist coming out of america today.Long live tom and dylan and van and gordon lightfoot and lenard cohen and lou reed and bruce cockburn and neil young and all the other artists willing to lay it out

  • The entire album..."The Heart of Saturday Night"...is simply beautiful.

  • Yes, I agree, so many good songs on one album is just amazing. I love them all, but this song is just stepping out and somehown it touches me deep into my soul......

  • @Crisaxx72 Totally agree I love each and every song and they are so incredibly beautiful. I love Tom!!!!

  • Just love this song!

  • seems like tom was attempting to do it a little differently, more offbeat. although not as "pretty" as some other versions it works. miss that double bass slap that's on the album cut, that was tasty too. what a unique nichancanbenawuser. only one tom i'm still waitsing. wasting? adelante
