Taps is a famous musical piece, sounded by the U.S. military during flag ceremonies and funerals, generally on bugle or trumpet. The tune is also sometimes known as "Butterfield's Lullaby",
A Union captain, Robert Eliicombe one night heard the cries of a dying man from behind the Union fort. Without knowing if it was a Confederate or Union soldier, he went out to save him, risking his life.
After he dragged the man to safety, he realized it was a Confederate. Also, it was his son. His son had been studying music in the South and enlisted without telling his dad.
They had a funeral out of respect for the captain and they played this song bc it was found in the sons coat pocket.
fitsafiddle123 it is npt a myth it is the truth you see every soldier knows this story as it has been passed down for ever funeral detail to learn since that day so that we can honor the creator of the song and all those that had fallen after him and before him
I am the sister of a fallen hero. My brother Spc. Robert Ray Arsiaga was killed in Iraq on April 4,2004. Hooah!!! Little Bro. I am also an Army veteran. I have two brothers who are and always will be Marines. Thank you for making this video
i may become one of the fallen heros. but i know the sacrafice, and im proud to take that chance for this great country we live in. and how many know the history of that song. not the star spangled banner but the other one.
What a beautiful tribute; thanks for sharing and take care!

It's Taps--what is played at the funeral of soldiers or for sending troops to bed.
