First song is good....but the second is VERY nice. Drummer shows he can play straight too. No BS here just heartfelt music. Refreshing isn't it?!......
personally, i'm not a huge fan of the drumming - there's no doubt the guy's techinically got the chops, but for me, he plays far too many off-beat accents, and these accents are louder than the main 2 & 4 snare backbeat hits. but heck, it's just my opinion, and that's what makes the world go round! who am i to judge! lol. sweet playing all round though :-)
absolutely dude. my personal two favourites are Per Hanson from Ronnie Earl's Broadcasters and Neil Gouvin from Sugar Ray & The Bluetones - man those guys can shuffle :-)
We did 3 shows with Nick in Oregon. Hardly anyone knew of him in the northwest at that time. We filled the house for him when he would come to town. I wanted all our fans to know who he was. When we opened up he had the bass player from the T_Birds and a diferent drummer at that time. Is he doing his own thing still? I heard he was just playing with the Fabulous Thunderbirds full time now.
Hey didn't Ronnie James play with Little Charlie and the Nightcats? Nick rocks. Saw him with Ronnie Dawson in the mid 90's then saw him with Kim Lenz in '99...I believe...Superb musician all of them.
That tag on the guitar reminds me of Minnie Pearl. Yeah, good analogy Nick Curran is to the blues guitar what Minnie Pearl was to the old lady hillbilly hat.
what's funny too, is see that tag hanging of the strat? it's a custom shop that he later sold on ebay and used part of this clip to demo it. that's like a $2k guitar, and now he often plays one of the cheapest Fender Squires. always killer. saw him with the TBirds at the 2005 SF Blues Festival, and he sang Little Richard's 'Keep a Knockin' and totally owned it, blew everybody's mind. huge voice, awesome player and he's about 24 i think? killer.
Nick is awesome, so cool in this JV /Anson vein, i'd love to see some more of this set if you'd care to post it? can't live in Austin, so trying to live vicariously with this and the Lou Ann Barton posts.
When i saw him in 2000, i thought he told me he was 17.... he sure didnt look 22 then... he looked 15... So we'll rename it the under 30 category then....

What's up with the tag on Nick's guitar. Did he just steal the guitar from a shop and ran into a show?
iceman273 3 years ago
see back a few comments, he had it listed for sale on Ebay around this time, it's a custom shop as i recall.
