I clicked on the shortcut to the video on youtube and it opened the page (on youtube) but played a stupid mastercard ad then froze two thirds of the way through. I have no intention of visiting any other site. Typical of any business Ebay, Youtube, Facebook, Steam, they all get greedy and start shoving advertising down your thoat until you end up so pissed off you go to a clone site that doesnt do that. (Until they get too big).
@ratcat17 there are several options. Have you tried viewing the video from the blogsite? Also, have you tried pressing "skip this add"? The video works, just checked it from a few terminals. If it's the cost of free that's bothering you - you're under no obligation to follow the detailed intrustctions from my photoblog, there's hundreds of others.

@jack042065 This one is built out of glass taken from shashless windows. It's built mainly of wood, and since it is exposed to the weather, it does shift and needs annual maintenance, checking seals, etc. It's very important that it is sealed tightly.

@jack042065 hey jack,if you use "old"upvc windows they dont rot?excellent insulation, any plexy glas is a NO NO ,it rots quickly or gets so scratched with cleaning+will not function?,upvc windows+patio doors are so cheap or even free?just make a back panel +bingo ,its RECYCLING ALSO ?90%of solar panels should be "used stuff",,,,,,,AMEN LOL
wow thats actually very nice! ever though of using physics to make it so u dont have to pump it? ask me more questions if you dont understand :P i also have another idea of doing this on a much bigger scale! just needs a lot of mining.....
To those who are putting him down, shame on you. A guy is just trying to share. We dont mind serious questions and suggestions but slamming comments that arent realated at all to what he is doing is childish. Grow up.
Hi Drobicho. Just wanted to say your video is good, I am building one myself for the winter and will use some of your ideas.
I also want to say to those who are putting him down, shame on you. Heres a guy sharing his knowledge and all you can do is joke. Nobody minds serious questions and suggestions. But iIf you dont have anything nice to say then be mature and say nothing.
@stephendouglas911 thank you! the fact is, this contraption works, and it's been working without any modification for over three years. This year I plan to remove it entirely and rebuild it with minor improvements, keep an eye out for the video!
I share your sentiments. Those negative and stupid attitudes are very detrimental to progress! (Or maybe they are OK with the rising price of gas - God help them!)
@drobicho Well, calling it a "furnace" is quite the bold exaggeration, nothing more than a marketing fluke. A "real" solar furnace is by definition a device that creates temperatures of several thousand degrees (of ANY scale) by focusing massive amounts of solar heat and light onto a relatively small spot ("solar concentrator").
Your device however is functionally different, it's a so-called "solar-thermal collector".
Nevertheless, I applaud your initiative and engagement for solar heating.
@drobicho Wouldn't a water heater make more sense? You don't need this in the summer when it works best. How much heat can you get out of this in winter? With a hot water heater, you can at least use it to heat water during the sumer.
You could use a photovoltaic cell to run a DC water pump to circulate water. It would stop when the sun goes down. You could get clever and use a thermostat to control it too.
So anyways, there's no need to send me hate mail. If you don't like what you see, move on. I make this information available to you at no cost, and I have no product to sell.
@yancy808 he said in the comment area below the video that it will not replace a blown air furnace in the home, but will save energy on your bill. Same as people who close their curtain when the sun is shining thru the window. your just blocking out natural heat for winter time.
Hey, check out my website at ScientificallyGreener(Dot) com and get all the new and improved Equipments to build or buy your own solar panels and wind energy turbine systems ScientificallyGreener(Dot) com is a website that sells the most modern environmental products available
I checked your Blog and found it really interesting and useful.
Question: What is the temperature at the back of the furnace?
I want to use a furnace, placed on the roof, but fear that the coating on the roof will get damaged as a result of the extensive heat during the summer.
Thank you in advance for sharing your project and your response.
i say we get a 2m round parabolic mirror, and a colourless water container, and then make it air tight and water tight, and then drive a turbine from the steam... yes or no? + or - this comment pls
This was in fact a very good idea, you use the fans to suck heated air through the tubes and blow it into the house?
You use any regulator on it so they don't blow cold air in when they receive little heat? :)
I just pictured air tubes in concrete floors fed by warm air from panels of black tubes, this would warm the concrete and it would act as a heat reservoir for hours.
re: This wouldn't get my house through a night in the winter that's for damn sure.
It's not intended to. You'd have to be bonkers to think that this would heat your whole house. It does, however, effectively heat up about 200 sq feet during the daytime, which is a great help on a 800 sq foot house. Burns alot less oil in the daytime... like 30% less.
thanks! it's only a humble device, but IT WORKS. Even on cold days with temps in the -15 centigrade range, under intermittant to full sunlight (about four hours a day), it produces a constant stream of warm air (25 degrees centigrade, or higher).
This is a video I have made about my homemade solar furnace. This is only the first time I make a video like this. The next version will have a narration to go along with it.
