Most of the time when music goes mainstream it is toned way down and not nearly as good as it could have been, but they also get more money for better guitars and stuff. Mainstream has its pros and cons. (I said most not all the time)
I have to say, Emil, writes some of the best songs I have ever heard, just wish Jon was alive to still sing those songs, anyone who has Emil working for them, is very lucky

i think this band and deathstars are equally as good but they just decided they need to try something different so the 2 different styles is why people tend to compare the 2
@willabema I don't even remember passing judgement on this video. Plus, the comments section is all based on opinion. I listen to classical, neo-classical, dark ambient, jazz, classic rock, rock, and all genres of metal. Except rap metal and punk metal. These riffs did not appeal to me at all. They didn't give me meaning. Just because this music gives the correct ambiance for black metal, doesn't make it an amazing song.

@willabema Try listening to Burzum's early stuff (Before Varg was sent to jail for murder). or maybe Mayhem, darkthrone, and summoning... plus you seem like the type of guy who can't stand music thats mainstream, it is people like you who cause others to steriotype black metalists. there is reason why rock and metal has mainstream bands.... it is because good bands finally had their music realized because of the talent and definition of the music. Rap and hip-hop is a different story, though.

Korn, Five Finger Death Punch & all that other gay mainstream shit never really had a hard edge. They made soft, conventional "verse-chorus-verse" music long before they became big. Black Metal is not for an image. It represents everything negative in the world & while this is basic song structure, it's still brutal.
