LOL pay for our health insurance? i'm a 17 year old form the hood. it's getting worse. don't let these dictator annoying fucks lie to you...fucking idiot adults. wow. taxes for us? how stupid canyou be?? TO BELIEVE THAT!
Maybe the goverment could just make do with the trillions of dollars they already collect. They always want more is what he's trying to say, and what's with the girl? Was she just there to take our minds off of your sta sta studder.
Greed? Keep in mind, at one point Neil Cavuto was NOT rich. He worked for it. He shouldn't be targeted for your ideas of social justice.
I went to college, worked 3 jobs to pay for it so I was able to graduate with no debt. I had no one help me. It's time people in this country figure it out on their own. It's no person or governments job to redistribute an individuals wealth. It's not greed to want to enjoy the money YOU worked for without having someone STEAL it from you.
@williamskevin27 Well, there are still people starving to death who have been working themselves to the bone for decades. Apparently capitalism is not that easy...
"why should i pay taxes, i only got free roads to drive on, free education and free education for all that makes smarter workers that intern make more so stronger economy and better job for myself, why should i pay for the free services i had been given and continue to receive?"
Capitalism is great when employed with a watch dog to keep it stable but capitalist thinking people are truly ignorant.
I think he should be allowed a tax break equal to what it would take to surgically give him a man's voice and pay for speach therapy to stop the whiny voice. Then again he may just need to get over it and admit to the world he is really a dike i.e. a vagina with short hair.
Americans aren't getting a good deal on their current healthcare system. In fact, if Americans knew how much they are paying for healthcare they would forget about the teabags and grab up pitchforks and torches and storm corporate headquarters. Insurers are reducing wages by an average of $12,680 per year. Not a good deal. Wake up & promote your own interests instead of some multimillionaire's interest.
I smoke- I now pay more taxes for cigarettes so that children can have health insurance...ITS WORTH IT! Ill pay the extra $.63 so that sick children will no longer be denied health coverage by twisted private insurance companies
Speaking of smoking. Obama is all for laws that will cut smoking out of the picture all together. Why? They don't care about anyone's health, it's the fact that smokers contribute such a high cost to healthcare. That $.63 cents isn't for the poor kids. It's to make up for their own cost. I'm not baggin' on smokers. I smoke a bit myself.
If I had as much money as O'Reilly and Cavuto, I would not mind at all paying a little extra in taxes to help the health of poor Americans. How greedy can you be?
No tommy99addams, your wrong, its not the Rich who's destroying America, We are the ones supporting the poor, how can you have such a backwards way of thinking. Did you know those of us who live on the ocean pay an extra 1/3rd in taxes and fees a year just because we live on the ocean. If it werent for our tax revenue, the lower class wouldn't have most of their subsidies like welfare checks, SSI, and State funded health care. Its the worlds ELITE that make the world suffer, not wealthy Americans.
You're both wrong, it's not the world's Elite, although if you were to blame a person they'd be the ones. But it's not even them, it's capitalism and the monetary system. Scarcity is the reason for all suffering in this world, scarcity of money, resources and food. The demand is so large that anything we can bring in to supply will never be enough, and on top of that we have institutions like the Fed printing counterfeit money and exacerbating the the situation by inflating our dollar...
No- seestickglue- thats correct, the monetary system is the way it is because of those in power made it that way. The Fed is the reason for the economic depression were in right now, so again, its all man made intentionally. It has nothing to do with :natural causes.
Dont forget after state and local taxes it goes up to 60 percent! Secondly National health Care system will destroy healthcare. Think about it things in the free market always increase in quality and decrease in value, b/c its promoted by competion. I agree there should be regulation but not intervention. Now that would destroy our healthcare system. I know I have 4 uncles and and many relatives that are in healthcare, that have witnessed first hand. Even one unlce who used to live in Europe.
i get taxed 35% so i have 65% left, well the national savings rate is 15% so i have 55.25% of my money left, i spend it all with a 9% sales tax i paid an extra 4.9725% in sales tax, So 35%+4.9725%= 39.99725% in california you pay another 10% in state income tax so 39.99725%+10% is = 49.99725%, but also some things dont have sales tax like rent and your mortgage payment which is a huge part of most people spending, but you get nickled and dimed for property taxes and so on so i think its 49%
Im talking about all taxes, including consumption taxes, like gas and property, state local, death tax, marriage tax...and so on. There was a study done on this very thing at Seton hall Univ, and it said it was at above 60 percent.
you dont think that a system that is high caste system where the poor have nothing and the rich have the best is already a destroyed system? name a place where free market health care is cheap? and dont say india for medical tourism. i am talking about affordable for the local population.
How is it fair if i am a doctor who has to pay for a health plan because i dont get a free/assisted plan from the government and i have to pay my mortgage because i am responsible and i have to pay for my childrens schooling and now i have to increase my pay for the unfortunate and bad planning of others who didnt make sure they would be able to may their houses down the line?
Sound like you have that typical american "I have minds now go get yours" attitude. To me you are missing understanding the culture and the reasoning behind the purpose of the tax codes. Of course people sometimes make the wrong decisions but that doesn't mean we shouldn't help them stay off the streets.
The difference is this. In Europe i could accept being taxed 30, 40 even 50 percent as long as the benefits are for everyone not just the poor. That is just Robin Hood syndrome of stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. The rich in this country would have no complaints, at least many of the rich and hardworking professionals i know, paying 50 percent in taxes as long as they too get to share in the benefits like free healthcare clean, efficient transportation etc...
No one in Europe that makes your kind of money pays 30, 40 or 50 percent in taxes. Especially if the country has free health care or dental care, etc. Of course Scandinavia, Austria, Switzerland have the highest tax rates but they have also the best quality of life and are the best places to live.
I know that the tax increase is only for those above 250K but remember there are people that are not in Wallstreet or arent Corparate CEO that earn that amount that are getting screwed by this and no one is thinking about them
do you understand that the increase is only valid for the amount that you earn above 250K?
it's not like people who earn 255K are getting screwed! they won't even feel it, the tax increase is GRADUAL, so I don't get what your problem is.
If you're worries about people who earn 300K and their kid's education (because they lose an additional $3000/ year or something like that) then what about those who make 50K/year (the average American family)???
Is it fair to some hard working professionals like doctors or other decent professionals that arent Corporate CEO or Wall Street guys that happen to earn above 250K a year working like animals to get punished just because they work their asses off?
what do you mean "get punished", you dumb scumbag?
aren't they living in a society?? aren't some of their less fortunate patients/clients depend on the taxes of more affluent?? isn't there a huge budget deficit caused by Bush??
besides, what kind of punishment is it when they will keep 100% of the money under $250K just like when they got it under Bush?
If you don't want to participate in a society, don't want to pay your taxes, get the fuck out!!
You dont get it. Of course i want to pay my taxes. The difference is In Europe i could accept being taxed 30, 40 even 50 percent as long as the benefits are for everyone not just the poor. That is just Robin Hood syndrome of stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. The rich in this country would have no complaints, at least many of the rich and hardworking professionals i know, paying 50 percent in taxes as long as they too get to share in the benefits
The way the country is going the younger professional productive people of this country should really take a look at other countries. Imagine if the rich just leave the US with their money. How would Congress and Obama fix the problem then? Without having the rich to basically rob to bail out this country how would the brilliant leaders of the US fix this country?
Theory vs. reality. The reality is rich morons sunk this economy with their greed, thusly they weren't brilliant whatsoever.
Also, this idea of rags to riches from hard work is a carrot on a stick. You're more likely to win the lottery or become a hollywood celebrity actor. From this I will preach to those broke people to buy a lot of lottery tickets, or get an agent and plastic surgery.
Maybe they should and then they will see how the rest of the world lives.
Where are they going to go, 99% don't even speak another language, and every other westernized country has social democracies. Let's see them live in Western Europe where they are going to be taxed even more.
Get your facts right first. Germany has an initial income tax of 15%. Yes it can go up to 45% in theory but only the multimillionaires and billionaires get affected by that. Ireland and the UK both have a 20% basic income tax. Russia has a 13% fixed tax!
Argentina has a personal tax rate of 9-35% max. The most in personal income tax in brazil is 25%! Canada has a 19-25% federal tax and 4-24 provincial tax. In Vancouver that is about 30% tax only! And remember in Western European countries like France, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Netherlands and Denmark the personal Income tax is 40-45% BUT it gives us free health care and a lot more substantial and fair benefits than the 35(federal) plus 0-20(state)% tax in the US that gives us nothing!
I lived in Europe for 16 years (Danmark and the Netherlands)and will be going back soon. So you can't fool me on that argument.
In theory the taxes in Western Europe can go up to 75% but the rich never pay that anyway. I paid 45% but my first 10,000 kroners was tax free. I just don't see someone making the comment "because we have to help those who were too lazy to help themselves" satisfied living in Europe!!! Because that is what their tax system is all about, variable tax codes.
Look at all my comments. I totally agree with you in that sence but the governments in Europe have legitimacy in their taxing because the benefits are for all. The health care they provide is excellent for all. Not just health care for the poor. I will accept being taxed as long as the benefits are for all of the citizens and not just for the lower 40 percent. That isnt fair to me either. But i would be willing to pay up to 50 % taxes if the government was fair ab out their spending unlike US
Look at all of my comments on this topic and you will see i comletly understand you and what you are saying and i would be totally willing to pay taxes if they were fair and efficient taxes not just blind taxes.
I get you! But it still doesn't make any sense because health care is for the rich right now. How are you going to fix that? 41-48 million people are without health insurance and many more have health insurance but not enough coverage. What is fair about that?! I understand that we aren't very efficient, but we have to start from somewhere.....
They've already taken most of their money out of the country in order to evade taxes so would it be a huge loss if they ran after it? My guess is no. Good riddance to bad garbage. Maybe then we could spend our efforts rebuilding the country rather than continuing to bail out their "businesses".
Sadly this is an all to common occurance and not just for doctors but for alot of professionals that have to take care of their family and have worked really hard to give their children a certain level of security and just because we have to help those who were too lazy to help themselves. If the US keeps going in this direction alot of the wealthy professionals are going to move to other countrys that don't treat their brightest and most productive citizens less fairly than the less productive
Ok so think about this example. You are a doctor, a specialist, You have a family 2 or 3 kids. Your whole career is based around helping people. You do charity stuff, you do pro bono stuff and still the government is gonna raise your taxes because you are in a certain bracket. Im sorry but i just do not see this as fair.
When you start to cry about a tax incr of -5 %, then you will see that the vast majority havent even got as much as you do after taxes. Man up, you still come out unharmed.
No you dont need to be an immigrant CANSOFCOM to get health care. Obamas new plan would cover all 20 million illegals here now. So yes, the 30,000 Hatians would get covered to.
China will own us. THey will literally take our land for payment of their bonds. Once under their rule, blacks are finished...China doesnt like blacks. SO blakcs should stop worrying about having a black man in power, and worry about this nations real problems. Only Ron Paul can save us now.
people that bitch, who all want to pay, lets say, 2000 dollars for taxes no matter what they earn, should be put in jail and forced to watch families that live in poverty on TV or wtv. 39% is a large percentage, but the only way that someone is paying it is because they have a huge income. My parents have the right to bitch at taxes since it slices 50% of their teacher salaries which are not in millions! Take the millions left and stop crying, for fuck sakes.
- "teacher salaries" they are a UNION of mostly goobs (not your parents I am sure!) - who wait for 20 years and RETIRE with full pensions and every conceivable padding to pamper them! - they get 2-3 months OFF! and vision, glasses, costco cards ECT.........then their UNION has our state budjet paying over %50+ percent of our taxes for these employees and the schools and the wierdos ABOUND in the public school system! they are all leftist loons and do not want CHARTER SCHOOLS allowed -why? GREED
but here in quebec, canada (might have heard of it :P) we have whats called...RETARDED FRENCH POLITICIANS. Thanks to that, every union, things to do with taxes and anything in domains that need more workers (nurses+teachers) is, right off the bat, FUCKED UP. Not only do the health care plans we have for dental and stuff not provide much, we are overtaxed and underpaid. union cant do shit.
usa all the way :) gonna move at 18. dual citizenship ftw
- and guess who I am married to?? - a man who was born - where? "on the ROCK!" ...his father was in the US Air force and went to ~~Gander~~Newfoundland! and meet his mom - and they then decided to follow the grandparents out to the west coast of the USA! HE had ~~dual citizenship~~until he choose to be an AMERICAN at "18" - you should see the surly discussions he has had at the border! all the digs saying -yer REALLY a CANADIAN! STILL!! WAAAA!! (our favorite show was 22 mins for YEARS!)
Young Turk (n), 1. Young progressive or insurgent member of an institution, movement, or political party. 2. Young person who rebels against authority or societal expectations.
Does that helath care include covering illegal aliens? How about the 30,000 Hatians that refuse to go home? Yeah Cenk, you always give us just half of the story dont you?
Its relevant. Turks are barbarian savages and USA have supported turkey for hundred years. USA economy is in the shitter, usa will never recover. Russia has oil and gas to sell for hundreds of years.
Asshole. My mother spits on turkish scum. Turks are barbarian scum who stole greek land and still terrorize the miniorites they havent slaughtered yet in the so called turkey.
Listen Yarakovich ( or Dickovich) you have a problem with Turks, go manage with them. This is not the place for it. Turks never killed innocent people. But scums like you justify killing defenseless Bosnians ( which are your own people) without sparing women and children. World didn't forget yet what you guys did to them. Barbarian? Learn some history and don't feed yourself with hatred it'll do no good for you.
There isn't a group that has abstained from doing bad things (including killing innocent people), and there isn't a group that hasn't been victim... Power corrupts most..
Of course, as a Serb, you don't have much to say about the genocide the Serbs committed against the Albanians and Bosnian people. I wonder why that is.
The genocide was committed against the Serbs? Really? Maybe that's why Milosevic was tried under International Law for crimes against humanity. By the way, in Bosnia, half the population is Bosnian now, so whatever happened in 1895 is then, there is a Serbia, so why are you trippin? You act like all Albanians are criminals, that is called stereotyping and stereotypes are never true.
Rich people should always pay higher taxes than poorer people. That tax increase to rich people means having to vacation in the Bahamas for 28 days instead of 30 days. That tax increases to poor people means access to basic commodities and services.
I think that's because he donates to charity and stuff. The government gives tax breaks to those to do philanthropical stuff because a lot of those tax money would have went to charity stuff that people wouldn't pay for anyways and it speeds up the process.
No, Warren Buffet stated himself that he pay less money in tax than his secretary because the rich have clever accountants that find all the legal loopholes. He said it himself. It is not just because of charity gifts.
Why should I sacrifice my hard-earned money for the lazy? Cavuto is right here - he doesn't need to pay a single cent more of his salary to those who just sit home all day wanting government help here and there.
There's a difference between giving an extra 4.6% of his paycheck to a system that he thinks will work, and a giving it to a system that he thinks won't work. He didn't say he didn't want poor people to have health care. He said he didn't want to pay for Obama's vision for America. Cavuto's a hack, but you're putting words in the man's mouth.
They're gonna get "hammered"? What? Are they going to have to sleep on the streets tonight? Are they going to get evicted from their mansions and have to pull their kids out of school because they have no fixed address anymore? Are they going to have to go without heat this winter?
WTF does "getting hammered" mean to these bloated sacks of human excrement?
Bill O'Reilly is the anal pore of all news progam people. His comment is essentially refuse or toxic gas that is trying to escape containment. His life depends on that. He blows the bad stuff out of both ends.
Why don't you do a show and talk OBJECTIVELY about the DETAILS of obama's plan and explain why you think it would work better than the republican proposal. The republicans said they have put forward a plan at half the cost and that will create about 2 million more jobs than obama's plan.
Let here your analysis.
We do not need to know how much you love to suck on obama's ass. I think we pretty much know that already.
What exactly are the details of the republican plan that are gonna allow them to create 2 million more jobs at half the cost? Sounds like a stretch to me. Is that a real plan that involves more than just tax cuts, or are the republicans just saying that to sound good?
Bottom line, you can't change anything without a "cost". The republicans like to tout to whoever will listen how much liberals spend, but you notice libs tend to get shit done.
You MORON. I did not ask for your opinion and analysis. I want Cenk to tell us, compare and contrast and explain why he bought into obama's plan wholesale and reject completely the republican's plan.
Its his job to inform the publicly objectively. We really do not need to known how much he love obama. That's michelle obama's problem. Not mine or anyone else.
No, moron, you didn't ask for my opinion, but you said "Its (Cenk's) job to inform the publicly (sic) objectively." And it's my job to point out that you're a hypocritical fool, because I highly doubt you would critique Hannity or Limbaugh by including "It's their job to inform the publicly (sic) objectively". This also is a result of you being a moron. Congratulations.
This is the last time I am going to waste my time typing a reply to an idiot like you. I posted my initial comment to challenge Cenk to do an objective show to inform people of the pros and cons of obama's spending plan. So, if Cenk is reading this blog, he will decide to do or not to do.
You, by replying or commenting on his behalf, simply demostrate that you are a one of those turd falling out of Cenk's mud hole. Maybe he just forget to pull the flush on you.
That's the one thing that pisses me off about rich complaining. Regular logic will NEVER... EVER penetrate their mentalities.
They don't live in a world where people say "I have way more than enough to live a long, prosperous life. I can DEFINITELY afford to give a little bit to help others out of a gutter." That just doesn't.. compute, to them.
Unfortunately, there's plenty of trenches to hide in. You can be greedy while sounding like you're just trying to adhere to a free market system.
I love how he tosses in there really quickly "Or those who don't WANT to pay for it" after those who can't pay for it to make it look like it is people just being lazy and not paying their health coverage. Not stoping to mention that so many insurances and pharmacy or medical expenses are outragous that people can't afford the basic requirements. I see it all the time at the pharmacy including my own experiances with outragous prices. theres no "want" in the situation. We can't afford this shit.
Marikay, my thoughts exactly. Who are these people who don't want to pay for their health insurance. Oh wait, there they are...standing behind that tree.
Oh no, Cavuto can only afford 11 new Porsches instead of 12 next year! Seriously, these guys claim to be great patriots but they never want to help Americans with what matters. Charity and investment are two different things. The income inequality in this country is ridiculous.
I honestly think their patriotism is an excuse for their bad behavior. It gives them a free pass to abuse dissenters and shoot down different opinions without debate. Consider Rush calling anti-war soldiers 'phony', then blusteriing in disbelief when anyone dare challenge him for saying he hopes the President fails.
Agreed, a double standard for right extremists. As for the rich, and by "rich" I mean the top 10% who control 80% of the wealth in this country, it seems they don't want to settle for just being "really rich." You know, there is ambition and then there is greed. I would be for hammering them more!
What they don't talk about is how they pay a smaller percentage of their income to taxes than the middle class after deductions are factored in. I made about $20,000 last year as a contractor. Thanks to deductions, I payed taxes on about $7000 of that. People working W2 jobs(most of the middle and lower classes) don't get that opportunity.
It just astounds me....How the hell do people think we run our country? Taxes...my GAWD...Poor little rich kids can't have their big houses and boats...omg...they have to live within reasonable means like the rest of us...GOD FORBID they lend a helping hand to their neighbor...GOD FORBID they show some humanity...GOD FORBID they do more for our country then just bitch and whine about loosing 10% of their annual income...*roll eyes* It's getting SO old...
My pastor gives me an allowance out of the money I earn cuz my paycheck is deposited directly into my church's bank account. I have no idea how much of taxes I pay, but I am sure that it would be better off in the Lord's hands than in the IRS hands.
Where were these rich guys who complain about health care taxes when all that tax money was being flushed away into a financially crippling war? Do they really prefer funding war with their money over funding health care for those who can't afford it? Am i missing something here??
Also, I would like to add that this conservative anchors are using fear So the problems will not be solve. If you want to solve Health care they call everything socialized medicine, if you want to fix immigration they call everything amnesty, if you want to fix energy they bring up global warning and so for. It seems to me that they do not like to solve problems.
I believe that capitalism is not failing nor socialism is been implemented. What is happening is that our health care system is getting old and obsolete. What the right wing anchors do not see is that We are about to have 70 million people in retirement; we are going to need a better system to help this people and at the same time help our working force to keep producing. Our health care needs reform because the current system won't be able to support that amount of people.
good commentary, i might favorite this. but not every rich person sides with cavuto, like a lot of celebrities and ceos of google & netfix are fine with their taxes going up a bit if it goes to the greater good of the country. i guess they should go on these shows :-p
I have to agree. Why is it that people who get super rich want to preserve their money so badly. If they were so glad with the system providing them with success, maybe it is just an investment back into a system that works. A way of saying 'thanks for the success, here's some for others'. But the more money they get the more they want to keep it to themselves. It's not like they won't be able to survive like that.
Wow, what's your country doing with all that money? 40% is quite much. No wonder everybody always wants a tax cut. Other countries have working health care systems and everything with about the same tax rates. Those wars seem to totally drain the US of all the money.
Wow, what do you guys gain from that? Guinness Book of Records entry or something? I know it's not safety...
Well, we know that Obama is reviewing the defense spending, so maybe he's right about health care and everything.
My point after all: All those social stuff won't result in much higher taxes than you already have. Of course Sweden and other more social countries pay a lot more, but that's not even necessary at the moment. A few working social programs won't cost that much.
It was that massive military that prevented the old USSR from steamrolling through the rest of Europe. That drove North Korea out of South Korea. That kicked the torturous Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait.
If not for the protective umbrella of American power, Europe wouldn't have the luxury of those health programs since they'd have to support their own military.
Great point! Without involvement of the US, old USSR would have crushed Hitler (maybe) and we'd be all talking Russian now.
However I can point out lots of other wars and involvements which made the world less save and were mistakes after all. Over all you can also question the world police roll of the US regarding smaller conflicts like the mentioned in Korea or the middle east.
About Saddam: The fear of communism drove the US to help Saddam to power. We see this pattern also with the Taliban
Is it worth it? That's a great question. But it's one that should be answered by each individual. It should not be imposed upon you by somebody else.
If you're a nice person who wouldn't mind paying an extra 4.6% to help others, nothing's stopping you. You can give up more in taxes, or you can give as much away to charities as you want.
What's wrong is that you jackasses are so willing to steal other peoples' money for the "greater good".
you miss the point...a wealthy person can afford it. either way Medicare cost is going up and we are all paying for it in the federal and state budgets. This way it helps taking off the stress of those who can't afford it even though they have two jobs and no insurance. In the end we all end up paying for the high cost. but in the long term those cost will go down and we won't need so much funding because everyone will have health care. thus lower our deficit. we all win.
Theft is theft. Stealing $1000 from Bill Gates is not less wrong than stealing the same from me just because "he can afford it".
And increasing those taxes will not lower our deficit. Look at history. More revenue comes in when taxes are lowered. It happened under JFK, Reagan, and Bush. Obama's policies are just going to be a repeat of the Carter debacle.
theft? do you think all the rich are paying taxes like you or me? they cheat the system while we don't. so where's the real theft? just look at the few people that just came out with not paying all their taxes. You are naive to think it's just Democrats. And you call it theft.
The richest 1% of Americans pay 40% of total federal income tax revenue. The richest 5% pay 60% of total federal income tax revenue. The top 25% contributes 86% of total federal income tax revenue.
Are you gonna sit there and tell me those numbers, those FACTS, are "fair"?
where did you get those numbers so I can look them up? I don't take people's word at face value....
I get it...you think you are going to rich one day so it won't be fair when you pay that amount. You are talking about people who are billionaires... fat chance that you'll be that one day.
sure wehen the top percentile is raking in millions of dollors a year while thier employees are making 6 bucks an hour. actually i call that less than fair.
Yes, look at history. We are were we are as a country because of what Reagan, Bush, Clinton (not a much but him, too) and Bush Jr. is more spending and lower taxes(for rich)... Obama's policies are more like FDR's in which did help get our country out of the Great Depression. FDR raised taxes for the rich to fund projects to put people back to work.
WW2 ende the Great depression because of massive government spending. In this case on things like tanks, bullets, airplanes, etc.
FDR had big projects, and reduced the unemployement from 25% to around 13%. Still higher than right now but a big improvement. Only when he began slowing the programs (around 1937) did the economy start to slide backwards.
The nominal tax cuts that Bush gave for the middle class weren't shit to the giant ones he gave his buddies. That's who they were meant for. They also got us that nice budget deficit right after Clinton left with a surplus.
FDR starts his job in '33 and because of his actions during the "100" days, the deep slide of the economy began to reverse. '34, '35, '36, all saw substantial growth. But it is actually thanks to the Libertarians ala the Austrian School that helped extend the depression by continually prodding about the deficit and gov't spending, and no doubt also FDR's concern after the attempted coup in '33 by the right, and so he lowered spending in 37 and the country went back into a recession
[Austrian theorists such as Friedrich von Hayek and Joseph Schumpeter strenuously arguing, in the very depths of that depression, against any attempt to restore "sham" prosperity by expanding credit and the money supply. And these same views are doing their bit to inhibit recovery in the world's depressed economies at this very moment ]
Economists attribute economic growth during FDRs first years to heavy government spending that is somewhat deficit. Roosevelt, however, feared an unbalanced budget and cut spending for 1937. That summer, the nation plunged into another recession. Despite this, the yearly GNP rises 5.0 percent, and unemployment falls to 14.3 percent.
So it was not FDR's interventions that caused the continuation of the depression into WWII but his timidity in not having an even greater spending program. And this can be obviously seen; for as you admit WWII saw the end to the depression, and what was that but a massive deficit spending program. Your own evidence disproves your thinking. But his real problem was that he was still a capitalist, he should have done more to redistribute the wealth. I'd rather of had Heuy Long.
And you are figuring your tax numbers wrong, you are not including payroll deductions that only are paid by those who receive a paycheck and only to a certain point. When you include all taxes most taxes paid are paid by the lower and middle class. Your thinking about Bush's cuts has already been pointed out; the richest got by far the greatest proportion of his cuts.
But even beyond that, all these cuts, especially on the wealthy has seen an increase in the level of state and county taxes and fees that we must pay. So there is an even greater disparity of services as the most in need local gov'ts find themselves the most cash strapped while wealthy gated communities can flourish. It is the "free-market" ideology and capitalism in general that are the reasons for this crisis. And Libertarianism is by far the most immediate and dangerous culprit.
They are the worst brand of rightist. Their idea of freedom is the market. A market for freedom means that only those who can afford it are truly free. Libertarians are the new ultra-right hidden in the alluring prose of democracy. But it is a democracy few can afford. It is the libertarian camp that wants all of our public assets destroyed; they are the radical privatizers who carry on the Neocon mantra while denying it. Those who believe govt doesnt work have no reason to be in it
Excerpted from: "The Organizer" Newsletter of the Socialist Party USA National Office
Febuary/March 2009
[The current financial crisis is not just a temporary setback, nor is it caused primarily by the lack of regulation in the financial sector. The collapse of the financial sector is indicative of the total failure of the capitalist economy.
In recent years, the leading recipients of the recent bailout have attempted to justify their "Washington Consensus" of decimated social safety nets, massive cuts to wages and benefits, and privatization of public services in the name of mercilessly strict adherence to the "tough love" and "sacrifice" of the "free market." This deregulation and dismantling of any social protections was a logical step for the republican and democratic parties.
The call now for regulation of the markets is a hypocritical action by those who continue to promote the 'free market" as the solution to all ills. The same power brokers and politicians who demanded the near complete deregulation of the financial sector under "free market" principles, are now calling upon all tax-paying US workers to "come together as Americans" and take "collective responsibility"
for their boundless greed and ultimate financial failure under the very standards they themselves imposed. As socialists we understand that there can no longer be any rational debate on the question of pursuing the "free market" as an alternative to the compelling urgency for a socialist transformation of society. The need of the largest firms to wipe out competition has already lead to the centralization of economic power,
but in the form of private ownership of an unaccountable ruling class of professional speculators, not of working people. The only solution to the current economic crisis is to move quickly to a socialist society based on cooperation, equality and justice, where the means of production in their entirety are taken into public ownership and are controlled by their workers and the communities in which they are located.]
How about we cut some of our nearly trillion defense budget to give the rich fucks you Republican drones want to give. Or better yet we could fund health care instead of a bloated military budget and people who want to donate to national defense can do so. ;)

Capitalism is great when employed with a watch dog to keep it stable but capitalist thinking people are truly ignorant.

Speaking of smoking. Obama is all for laws that will cut smoking out of the picture all together. Why? They don't care about anyone's health, it's the fact that smokers contribute such a high cost to healthcare. That $.63 cents isn't for the poor kids. It's to make up for their own cost. Its the worlds ELITE that make the world suffer, not wealthy Americans.
illmagnified 2 years ago
You're both wrong, it's not the world's Elite, although if you were to blame a person they'd be the ones. But it's not even them, it's capitalism and the monetary system. Scarcity is the reason for all suffering in this world, scarcity of money, resources and food. The demand is so large that anything we can bring in to supply will never be enough, and on top of that we have institutions like the Fed printing counterfeit money and exacerbating the the situation by inflating our dollar...

Even one unlce who used to live in Europe.
indians4bobbyjindal 2 years ago
it doesnt go up to 60%, the max in the U.S. is around 48% if your a billionaire not 60%,
mexprince1 2 years ago
Actually including and after taxes on consumption, it comes up to around 60% or more.
indians4bobbyjindal 2 years ago
i get taxed 35% so i have 65% left, well the national savings rate is 15% so i have 55.25% of my money left, i spend it all with a 9% sales tax i paid an extra 4.9725% in sales tax, So 35%+4.9725%= 39.99725% in california you pay another 10% in state income tax so 39.99725%+10% is = 49.99725%, but also some things dont have sales tax like rent and your mortgage payment which is a huge part of most people spending, but you get nickled and dimed for property taxes and so on so i think its 49%
mexprince1 2 years ago
Im talking about all taxes, including consumption taxes, like gas and property, state local, death tax, marriage tax...and so on. There was a study done on this very thing at Seton hall Univ, and it said it was at above 60 percent.

Sound like you have that typical american "I have minds now go get yours" attitude. To me you are missing understanding the culture and the reasoning behind the purpose of the tax codes. Of course people sometimes make the wrong decisions but that doesn't mean we shouldn't help them stay off the streets.
searching4dtruth 2 years ago
The difference is this. In Europe i could accept being taxed 30, 40 even 50 percent as long as the benefits are for everyone not just the poor. That is just Robin Hood syndrome of stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. The rich in this country would have no complaints, at least many of the rich and hardworking professionals i know, paying 50 percent in taxes as long as they too get to share in the benefits like free healthcare clean, efficient transportation etc...
amorat627 2 years ago
No one in Europe that makes your kind of money pays 30, 40 or 50 percent in taxes. Especially if the country has free health care or dental care, etc. Of course Scandinavia, Austria, Switzerland have the highest tax rates but they have also the best quality of life and are the best places to live.

do you understand that the increase is only valid for the amount that you earn above 250K?
it's not like people who earn 255K are getting screwed! they won't even feel it, the tax increase is GRADUAL, so I don't get what your problem is.
If you're worries about people who earn 300K and their kid's education (because they lose an additional $3000/ year or something like that) then what about those who make 50K/year (the average American family)???

there are benefits for everyone, like police, fire-fighters, military, and all kinds of public infrastructure..

now we're talking about people who earn well above $250K/year and your pissed that they don't get it for free?

Plus Amorat627 most doctors in Europe don't make your kind of money and pay more than 50% in taxes.
searching4dtruth 2 years ago
this tax increase "hits" hard only on those Wall Street guys (and some innocent bystanders who earn millions)
because it's GRADUAL, it's INSIGNIFICANT when you earn less than half a million / year!
So don't worry about it so much....
semiliteratedgod 2 years ago
The way the country is going the younger professional productive people of this country should really take a look at other countries. Imagine if the rich just leave the US with their money. How would Congress and Obama fix the problem then? Without having the rich to basically rob to bail out this country how would the brilliant leaders of the US fix this country?
amorat627 2 years ago
Theory vs.

Let's see them live in Western Europe where they are going to be taxed even more.
searching4dtruth 2 years ago
Get your facts right first. Germany has an initial income tax of 15%. Yes it can go up to 45% in theory but only the multimillionaires and billionaires get affected by that. Ireland and the UK both have a 20% basic income tax. Russia has a 13% fixed tax!
amorat627 2 years ago
Argentina has a personal tax rate of 9-35% max. The most in personal income tax in brazil is 25%! Canada has a 19-25% federal tax and 4-24 provincial tax. In Vancouver that is about 30% tax only! And remember in Western European countries like France, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Netherlands and Denmark the personal Income tax is 40-45% BUT it gives us free health care and a lot more substantial and fair benefits than the 35(federal) plus 0-20(state)% tax in the US that gives us nothing!
amorat627 2 years ago
I lived in Europe for 16 years (Danmark and the Netherlands)and will be going back soon. So you can't fool me on that argument.
In theory the taxes in Western Europe can go up to 75% but the rich never pay that anyway. I paid 45% but my first 10,000 kroners was tax free. I just don't see someone making the comment "because we have to help those who were too lazy to help themselves" satisfied living in Europe!!! Because that is what their tax system is all about, variable tax codes.
searching4dtruth 2 years ago
Look at all my comments. I totally agree with you in that sence but the governments in Europe have legitimacy in their taxing because the benefits are for all. The health care they provide is excellent for all. Not just health care for the poor. I will accept being taxed as long as the benefits are for all of the citizens and not just for the lower 40 percent. That isnt fair to me either. But i would be willing to pay up to 50 % taxes if the government was fair ab out their spending unlike US
amorat627 2 years ago
Look at all of my comments on this topic and you will see i comletly understand you and what you are saying and i would be totally willing to pay taxes if they were fair and efficient taxes not just blind taxes.
amorat627 2 years ago
I get you! But it still doesn't make any sense because health care is for the rich right now. How are you going to fix that? 41-48 million people are without health insurance and many more have health insurance but not enough coverage. What is fair about that?! I understand that we aren't very efficient, but we have to start from somewhere.....
searching4dtruth 2 years ago
They've already taken most of their money out of the country in order to evade taxes so would it be a huge loss if they ran after it? My guess is no. Good riddance to bad garbage. Maybe then we could spend our efforts rebuilding the country rather than continuing to bail out their "businesses".
megamarsvin 2 years ago
Sadly this is an all to common occurance and not just for doctors but for alot of professionals that have to take care of their family and have worked really hard to give their children a certain level of security and just because we have to help those who were too lazy to help themselves. If the US keeps going in this direction alot of the wealthy professionals are going to move to other countrys that don't treat their brightest and most productive citizens less fairly than the less productive
amorat627 2 years ago
Ok so think about this example. You are a doctor, a specialist, You have a family 2 or 3 kids. Your whole career is based around helping people. You do charity stuff, you do pro bono stuff and still the government is gonna raise your taxes because you are in a certain bracket. Im sorry but i just do not see this as fair.

john6echo 2 years ago
"Its (Cenk's) job to inform the publicly objectively."
Says who? Is this a national network news program? Is it Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh's job to inform the public objectively?
Adeon55 2 years ago
Like I said MORON.
I did not ask for your opinion. So STFU.
john6echo 2 years ago
No, moron, you didn't ask for my opinion, but you said "Its (Cenk's) job to inform the publicly (sic) objectively." And it's my job to point out that you're a hypocritical fool, because I highly doubt you would critique Hannity or Limbaugh by including "It's their job to inform the publicly (sic) objectively". This also is a result of you being a moron. Congratulations.
Adeon55 2 years ago
Hey asshole.
Maybe he just forget to pull the flush on you.
john6echo 2 years ago
Or maybe you are a moron who fails to grasp the concept of this show and shows like it at all.

The income inequality in this country is ridiculous.
danimal2888 2 years ago 3
I honestly think their patriotism is an excuse for their bad behavior. It gives them a free pass to abuse dissenters and shoot down different opinions without debate. Consider Rush calling anti-war soldiers 'phony', then blusteriing in disbelief when anyone dare challenge him for saying he hopes the President fails.
eirefrance 2 years ago 2
Agreed, a double standard for right extremists. As for the rich, and by "rich" I mean the top 10% who control 80% of the wealth in this country, it seems they don't want to settle for just being "really rich." You know, there is ambition and then there is greed. I would be for hammering them more!
danimal2888 2 years ago
Hells yeah!!!! Redistribute that wealth!!!! If these rich assholes can't self-regulate their greed, we'll fucking do it for them.

Am i missing something here??
greenxxghostie 2 years ago 3
Also, I would like to add that this conservative anchors are using fear So the problems will not be solve. If you want to solve Health care they call everything socialized medicine, if you want to fix immigration they call everything amnesty, if you want to fix energy they bring up global warning and so for. It seems to me that they do not like to solve problems.
tiofelipe1987 2 years ago 2
I believe that capitalism is not failing nor socialism is been implemented. What is happening is that our health care system is getting old and obsolete. What the right wing anchors do not see is that We are about to have 70 million people in retirement; we are going to need a better system to help this people and at the same time help our working force to keep producing. Our health care needs reform because the current system won't be able to support that amount of people.

good commentary, i might favorite this. but not every rich person sides with cavuto, like a lot of celebrities and ceos of google & netfix are fine with their taxes going up a bit if it goes to the greater good of the country. i guess they should go on these shows :-p
sisforshayla 2 years ago
I have to agree. Why is it that people who get super rich want to preserve their money so badly. If they were so glad with the system providing them with success, maybe it is just an investment back into a system that works. A way of saying 'thanks for the success, here's some for others'. But the more money they get the more they want to keep it to themselves. It's not like they won't be able to survive like that.
Staticnz 2 years ago
Wow, what's your country doing with all that money? 40% is quite much. No wonder everybody always wants a tax cut. Other countries have working health care systems and everything with about the same tax rates. Those wars seem to totally drain the US of all the money.
P1ranh4 2 years ago
Its spent making sure that America spends as much as every country combined on defense.
PVTSolis 2 years ago
Yeah. It's awesome, ain't it.
schradersl2 2 years ago
Wow, what do you guys gain from that? Guinness Book of Records entry or something? I know it's not safety...
Well, we know that Obama is reviewing the defense spending, so maybe he's right about health care and everything.
My point after all: All those social stuff won't result in much higher taxes than you already have. Of course Sweden and other more social countries pay a lot more, but that's not even necessary at the moment. A few working social programs won't cost that much.
P1ranh4 2 years ago
It was that massive military that prevented the old USSR from steamrolling through the rest of Europe. That drove North Korea out of South Korea. That kicked the torturous Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait.
If not for the protective umbrella of American power, Europe wouldn't have the luxury of those health programs since they'd have to support their own military.
schradersl2 2 years ago
Great point! Without involvement of the US, old USSR would have crushed Hitler (maybe) and we'd be all talking Russian now.
However I can point out lots of other wars and involvements which made the world less save and were mistakes after all. Over all you can also question the world police roll of the US regarding smaller conflicts like the mentioned in Korea or the middle east.
About Saddam: The fear of communism drove the US to help Saddam to power. We see this pattern also with the Taliban

I love freedom. Except of course freedom from taxation. I DESERVE to have you pay for my social needs. Even if it's at the point of a gun,
MDUMANOVIC 2 years ago
Is it worth it? That's a great question. But it's one that should be answered by each individual. It should not be imposed upon you by somebody else.
If you're a nice person who wouldn't mind paying an extra 4.6% to help others, nothing's stopping you. You can give up more in taxes, or you can give as much away to charities as you want.
What's wrong is that you jackasses are so willing to steal other peoples' money for the "greater good".
schradersl2 2 years ago
you miss the point...a wealthy person can afford it. either way Medicare cost is going up and we are all paying for it in the federal and state budgets. This way it helps taking off the stress of those who can't afford it even though they have two jobs and no insurance. In the end we all end up paying for the high cost. but in the long term those cost will go down and we won't need so much funding because everyone will have health care. thus lower our deficit. we all win.
checkurself 2 years ago
Theft is theft. Stealing $1000 from Bill Gates is not less wrong than stealing the same from me just because "he can afford it".
And increasing those taxes will not lower our deficit. Look at history. More revenue comes in when taxes are lowered. It happened under JFK, Reagan, and Bush. Obama's policies are just going to be a repeat of the Carter debacle.
schradersl2 2 years ago
theft? do you think all the rich are paying taxes like you or me? they cheat the system while we don't. so where's the real theft? just look at the few people that just came out with not paying all their taxes. You are naive to think it's just Democrats. And you call it theft.
checkurself 2 years ago
Not naive, just aware of the facts.
The richest 1% of Americans pay 40% of total federal income tax revenue. The richest 5% pay 60% of total federal income tax revenue. The top 25% contributes 86% of total federal income tax revenue.
Are you gonna sit there and tell me those numbers, those FACTS, are "fair"?
schradersl2 2 years ago
where did you get those numbers so I can look them up? I don't take people's word at face value....
I get it...you think you are going to rich one day so it won't be fair when you pay that amount. You are talking about people who are billionaires... fat chance that you'll be that one day.

Yes, look at history. We are were we are as a country because of what Reagan, Bush, Clinton (not a much but him, too) and Bush Jr. is more spending and lower taxes(for rich)... Obama's policies are more like FDR's in which did help get our country out of the Great Depression. FDR raised taxes for the rich to fund projects to put people back to work.
checkurself 2 years ago
Wow. So wrong. Bush's tax cuts hit every single American who paid income taxes, not just the rich. Stop using that old myth.
FDR's programs didn't end the Great Depression. WW2 did that.
schradersl2 2 years ago
WW2 ende the Great depression because of massive government spending. In this case on things like tanks, bullets, airplanes, etc.
FDR had big projects, and reduced the unemployement from 25% to around 13%. Still higher than right now but a big improvement. Only when he began slowing the programs (around 1937) did the economy start to slide backwards.
Hibbidyhai 2 years ago
The nominal tax cuts that Bush gave for the middle class weren't shit to the giant ones he gave his buddies. That's who they were meant for. They also got us that nice budget deficit right after Clinton left with a surplus.
PVTSolis 2 years ago
Lowest bracket went from paying 15% to 10%. Highest bracket went from 39% to 35%. 5% > 4%.
Before Bush, the top 1% contributed 37% of income tax revenue. That went up to 39% after Bush's cuts.
Both the middle and lowest 20% of America contributed 1% less to the income tax pool after Bush.
Under Bush every Amercan who paid income tax got a cut. And the richest ended up shouldering slightly more than before.

(1/12)
FDR starts his job in '33 and because of his actions during the "100" days, the deep slide of the economy began to reverse. '34, '35, '36, all saw substantial growth. But it is actually thanks to the Libertarians ala the Austrian School that helped extend the depression by continually prodding about the deficit and gov't spending, and no doubt also FDR's concern after the attempted coup in '33 by the right, and so he lowered spending in 37 and the country went back into a recession
Rundstedt1 2 years ago
(2/12)
For as Paul Krugman said:
[Austrian theorists such as Friedrich von Hayek and Joseph Schumpeter strenuously arguing, in the very depths of that depression, against any attempt to restore "sham" prosperity by expanding credit and the money supply. And these same views are doing their bit to inhibit recovery in the world's depressed economies at this very moment ]
Rundstedt1 2 years ago
(3/12)
Economists attribute economic growth during FDRs first years to heavy government spending that is somewhat deficit. Roosevelt, however, feared an unbalanced budget and cut spending for 1937. That summer, the nation plunged into another recession. Despite this, the yearly GNP rises 5.0 percent, and unemployment falls to 14.3 percent.
Rundstedt1 2 years ago
(4/12)
So it was not FDR's interventions that caused the continuation of the depression into WWII but his timidity in not having an even greater spending program. And this can be obviously seen; for as you admit WWII saw the end to the depression, and what was that but a massive deficit spending program. Your own evidence disproves your thinking. But his real problem was that he was still a capitalist, he should have done more to redistribute the wealth. I'd rather of had Heuy Long.
Rundstedt1 2 years ago
(5/12)
And you are figuring your tax numbers wrong, you are not including payroll deductions that only are paid by those who receive a paycheck and only to a certain point. When you include all taxes most taxes paid are paid by the lower and middle class. Your thinking about Bush's cuts has already been pointed out; the richest got by far the greatest proportion of his cuts.
Rundstedt1 2 years ago
(6/12)
But even beyond that, all these cuts, especially on the wealthy has seen an increase in the level of state and county taxes and fees that we must pay. So there is an even greater disparity of services as the most in need local gov'ts find themselves the most cash strapped while wealthy gated communities can flourish. It is the "free-market" ideology and capitalism in general that are the reasons for this crisis. And Libertarianism is by far the most immediate and dangerous culprit.
Rundstedt1 2 years ago
(7/12)

Rundstedt1 2 years ago
(9/12)
In recent years, the leading recipients of the recent bailout have attempted to justify their "Washington Consensus" of decimated social safety nets, massive cuts to wages and benefits, and privatization of public services in the name of mercilessly strict adherence to the "tough love" and "sacrifice" of the "free market." This deregulation and dismantling of any social protections was a logical step for the republican and democratic parties.
Rundstedt1 2 years ago
(10/12)
The call now for regulation of the markets is a hypocritical action by those who continue to promote the 'free market" as the solution to all ills. The same power brokers and politicians who demanded the near complete deregulation of the financial sector under "free market" principles, are now calling upon all tax-paying US workers to "come together as Americans" and take "collective responsibility"
Rundstedt1 2 years ago

for their boundless greed and ultimate financial failure under the very standards they themselves imposed. As socialists we understand that there can no longer be any rational debate on the question of pursuing the "free market" as an alternative to the compelling urgency for a socialist transformation of society. The need of the largest firms to wipe out competition has already lead to the centralization of economic power,
Rundstedt1 2 years ago

but in the form of private ownership of an unaccountable ruling class of professional speculators, not of working people.

Or better yet we could fund health care instead of a bloated military budget and people who want to donate to national defense can do so. ;)
