Interesting, in the Civil Rights era, the blacks/African Americans wanted the Native American Indians to support the cause of Civil Rights and when it happened, they forgot the assistance of the Natives and the Hispanics. Now they want to be us.
@Loewra827 Come make me be quite. Just because you don't care if the your the butt of the the worst sort of stereotyping that is still present in the USA, doesn't mean I don't care. I have every right to say something is stereotypical and that I don't like it. That it is racial and many of us are tired of it. 54% of blacks thought that desegregation was a waste of time when it was going on. So you being NDN is what? BTW, yeah I don't like little kids dressing up as indians for thanksgiving.
ppl need to stop being so up their own asses. like really. firstly, the world is in such a state, who cares what he's dressed like and what he's representing kuz at least it's upbeat and happy = yay. He's native so him being racist goes out the window. And it shouldn't even matter. It's not like he's up there saying all natives are fuckers. he's giving them love, so to speak. there is so much going on in the world. do some good. instead of picking at someone creating and having a great time.
Yeah well some of us think that speaking out against Institutionalized Racism is something good for our world. So what he is Native American, that just means he bought into a popular stereotype.
@Loveydvy99 There's too many people in the world. It's nearly impossible to NOT offense someone. But you know, you can always tune out instead of trying to control everything.
@HigherPlanes Sounds suspiciously like being a doormat. Think I'll pass.
I'd also like to point out that's it's, in fact, much easier NOT to offend someone than to hurt their feelings. All you do is think before you act. So simple.
@Loveydvy99 Oh please. Are you taking personal offense to this. I mean, are you American Indian? I doubt he put on this awesome performance to hurt anybody. It's called modern art. Inadvertently someone always gets offended.
i kinda dont understand the controversy with this performance.I understand people are saying it's sterotypical, but its andre 3000 lol,he's so creative and unique. He is part native american, and was kinda paying tribute to it.its not different from when his ex girlfriend erykah badu being an african tribe in her video next lifetime to me.Her's isnt as extreme, but neither were meant to disrespect or offend anyone
@krystiianlol1 Re-read your comment. Saying that "Hey ya hey ya" is befitting of a Native American theme is EXACTLY the same stereotype that these goofy "Injun" costumes were born from. Out of the thousands of different cultures very few traveled with tipis or wore fringed leather and feathers or chanted "hey ya" around a bonfire. This song is not fitting at all and these ridiculous costumes are nothing but an insulting gimmick.
SonyaOOOlights@ ur a fuckin assholin bitch just because somebody relaxes there hair u think u have the right fuck them up. Well u dont I wish u were here in front uv me right I wood fuck ur face up(if isn't already fucked up).
@4evermusiclover15 Being half Indian doesn't mean you get it. Its not the entire performance it's the dude wearing the headress. But if you was true you already knew that. The rest of the outfits is just a joke. But wearing the headress without earning the right is saying FUCK Indians they have no respect for our religion or beleifs. Its equivalent to flipping off the shrine of Jesus. For Christians anyway.
I read more of the comments and what gets me is how so many people can tell us to shut up and just forget about it or their all alcoholics anyway. This shit is funny because my race wants to speak about what is right and all other races start to attack us. If this was a black issue NCAAP would be in on it and everybody would be simpathetic and say how can this still go on in America? America is blind and dumb.
Reading the comments on this issue just shows me where Americans are. To think this is not offensive to Natives is disgusting and proves how much hate people have for my race. All I have to say is every race has just lost my respect in every aspect of life. Yeah maybe it was just entertainment but our people do not do these things to you. All my warriors stand up and let your voices be heard. We will never be on your level for we are DIFFERENT PEOPLE with true hearts for mankind.

Remember some of these blacks have Native blood in them. Just like SOME of you have white and black blood in you. If your going to argue, back it up with FACTS. Your making the rest of us look like dumb-fucks! Is it really the worst anybody has ever done to our people? In no way do I condone this, but it is what it is.
A headdress is sacred to the Lakota, the similar equivalent to a white man deeming something as "holy".
I bet Outkast would not have made a replica of one of those temple/church's in Jerusalem on the stage, and mixed that kind of music and dancing within and around that structure. Do you think that would be appropriate?
One might say the headdress is fake just like the temple is fake but do you think those religious people would care whether it was a fake temple or not? They would be offended.
Before anyone can say this is appropriate, please do so from a knowledgeable perspective of how and why stereotypes were used in the past. Realize the perspective of a people who were confined to concentration camps for a lot longer than Jews were. Our languages are disappearing, and with it, our culture. Why is that?
your a fucking idiot, its not racist at all, you chugs need to find something to do, bow and arrow hunting or something and stop thinking everyone is out to get you savages. You fuck.
I don't think this is racist at all. And there is certainly NO malicious intent behind this, even if you do find it offensive. You shouldn't hate Outkast and Jack Black for it.
@FijianDreads Your right, we shouldn't hate them for it, only recognize their ignorance. If the majority of indigenous people find non-indigenous people dancing around in feathers and headresses as offensive, I'd say it's offensive. Just like the Indians baseball team. What if the baseball helmet said "Negroes" and had a black face? If most blacks would find that offensive, than I'd say it's offensive.
Fellow Countrymen and Countrywomen, a question for you: Was the lady at 4:25 feeling the effects of an extra glass of wine (to calm nerves pre-show) perhaps on an empty stomach, or mixed w/ a med? Or, was she gettin' dizzy and short of 0xygen, or low blood sugar? Glad she didn't fall and hurt herself like the Bieber Dancer! oh well, better visit my sight for FRESHNESS.and old skoolin get down music lol

"Blacks could never do anything offensive to Native Americans. We both have been destroyed by the enemy." lmao @ that comment. and they sayin hey ya stop bein so sensitive.
i am native and happen to be a navajo (which the origin of the native singing in the intro) and I don't feel offended at all. Well the Tipi was kind of a stupid idea but as for the other stuff no. Good publicity for native americans
wow you must some kind of wannabe native. I'm apart of the Paiute tribe. This is not good publicity for natives, its offensive and it stereotypes natives. This is stereotyping all natives and that is never good. and it also makes fun of all powwow jams. I love outkast, but this performance was fuckin stupid.
My heart aches at the sight of this....I'm a FULL BLOOD Cheyenne woman and I feel like it's making fun my culture and my people. Our ways are about respect and honor! This is a complete disrespect to the Native American culture and people. This is offensive and racist.
I dont know why people are saying this doesnt translate live.I think it was an amazing performance.A true performance not just standing there sing it.Awesome!!
@preto391 the coffins represent the death of hip hop. Andre said he thought hip hop in its true form was dead or dying. hope he's wrong, hope its just sick
I don't see how wearing crazy green outfit is offensive to natives their not trying to offend them honestly....and the black face thing is different if they mocked how native's speak and such tthen you can complain
Not that I expect anyone to know what I'm talking about, but the song always sounded like a Native song. I always imagined that these guys stumbled across a powwow somewhere and were inspired by the songs (...that sound like this song's chorus.) I was convinced when they did this performance. Check out an example on the net and tell me it doesn't sound the same. Although, every song is different depending on the tribe. Again, not that I expect anyone to know what I'm talking about.
Love it!!! I remember when this came out and natives thought this was offensive. But look at what native are doing with modeling, rapping, and so on and so on. They just trying to take advantage like the rest of America!!!
this is possibly the best song of the 2000s... outkast blows away any other rap artist/group by far. they're just so damn creative, there's nothing like them at all. and big boi isn't in it becuse it's andre's song. the did an album with two cds, one was andre's side one was big boi's. and that marching band is fucking awesome.
@metis 111223 how can anyone see this as offensive??? as far as I'm concern it's a nice dance piece!!! lacking sophistication which is part of this song's atraction...
i dont agree at all... they just went with a tribal theme, putting on black face make up and throwing watermelons would be offensive but this is morel like if white people dressied in baggy clothes and played hip hop style instrumentals.
@metis111223 I'm native and don't take offense..i agree there are similarities in what you said but minus the repression, slavery, genocide, ridicule, etc.
this is wrong and i am an outkast fan to the core.

In my opinion, we all should calm down about it.
If you're talking about race at all, you're racist. Like Hitler, for example.
We all are the human race.
And we should rather be entertained by this video than fighting about racism issues.

i am native and happen to be a navajo (which the origin of the native singing in the intro) and I don't feel offended at all. Well the Tipi was kind of a stupid idea but as for the other stuff no. Good publicity for native americans
tlizilani 1 year ago
@tlizilani
wow you must some kind of wannabe native. I'm apart of the Paiute tribe. This is not good publicity for natives, its offensive and it stereotypes natives. This is stereotyping all natives and that is never good. and it also makes fun of all powwow jams. I love outkast, but this performance was fuckin stupid.
MissRollingStones 1 year ago
andre is native american for who? sorry but there is a real difference to just having native ancestry and actually being a native.

Blacks could never do anything offensive to Native Americans. We both have been destroyed by the enemy.

My heart aches at the sight of this....I'm a FULL BLOOD Cheyenne woman and I feel like it's making fun my culture and my people. Our ways are about respect and honor! This is a complete disrespect to the Native American culture and people. This is offensive and racist.

@ridenrezer no its not...stop trying to get attention by making stupid ass complaints, theres no offence meant or shown here

1:58 to 2:00 you can realize that have a coffin behind the singer ... And in the clip of this song have the coffin two ... stranger ,,, = s
preto391 1 year ago
@preto391 the coffins represent the death of hip hop. Andre said he thought hip hop in its true form was dead or dying. hope he's wrong, hope its just sick
raveonsteviewoo 1 year ago
@raveonsteviewoo as of 2004, hip hops dead...th era of great music is gone. now we have justin bieber and miley cyrus

Again, not that I expect anyone to know what I'm talking about.

this is possibly the best song of the 2000s... outkast blows away any other rap artist/group by far. they're just so damn creative, there's nothing like them at all. and big boi isn't in it becuse it's andre's song. the did an album with two cds, one was andre's side one was big boi's. and that marching band is fucking awesome.

@metis 111223 how can anyone see this as offensive??? as far as I'm concern it's a nice dance piece!!! lacking sophistication which is part of this song's atraction...

OfWolvenBreedIAm87 1 year ago
i dont agree at all... they just went with a tribal theme, putting on black face make up and throwing watermelons would be offensive but this is morel like if white people dressied in baggy clothes and played hip hop style instrumentals.
AfroTits 11 months ago
@metis111223 I'm native and don't take offense..i agree there are similarities in what you said but minus the repression, slavery, genocide, ridicule, etc.
