Okay, okay, well whatever floats your boat - that's art for ya, huh? - and HEY! whaddya know, Wayne's using some of Trane's fav rhythm section, too! You know, Wayne said he used to hang out with the older Trane and Trane hipped him to some harmonic stuff. Ironically, today's fare just HAPPENED to be transcribing "Africa/Brass" parts in bass, what a trip! I'd be hard pressed, tho, to pull out as many originals for the songbook from Trane. He began to sound the same towards the end.

@Praguedive : You know what was the hardest thing about Trane to figure out (cuz his writing was straightforward)? His SOLOS - the dude was a BEAST! That being said, Shorter was a Trane disciple in a way. Trane, Dolphy, and Shorter - in a way, along with Miles (only in the modal sense) and Tyner, there was a sort of cross-fertilization. Shorter's mysterious pen's roots are just more elliptical to jazz or something, I dunno. He specialized in it, for Bu, for Miles, himself, and Weather Report.

When it come to all-out SOLOING, well, there's Bird and there's Trane. He had something NEW there, unlike ANYBODY. Ratliff describes only a small part of Trane's style as the "babbling, conversational" (schizo, haha) type, but that harp stuff was wicked as HELL - who would've thought of trying to run every note in an arpeggio? Damn...Shorter is real zig-zag for his part. Anyway, I didn't realize I'd replied to one person - I thot it was to the vid! Haha. But yeah, I hear ya.

@Praguedive : By the way, you'd like Ben Ratliff's musical biography. In it, he doesn't go so far as to say as much as you do, but he basically let's OTHERS write it, haha, and they all say: you have Trane and then everyone was like "What NEXT????" LOL. That's well-known musicians talkin, man, so I guess that says it: hands down, everyone's still chasin the Trane, eh? The King. :D
