not to big up my own country too much but the BBC always seems to make the best documentaries, have watched a lot of American ones as well and i think because an hour programme stateside tends to be shorter (because of their constant commercial breaks) some of them tend to miss the mark, as a Welsh kid growing up Richard i felt gave me an edge on humor that a lot of kids my age never had, Pryor,Hicks,Carlin,Bruce all great truth telling comics all gone but never forgotten
@mjluvx Rain has his face shape and skin tone. But his son looks just like him, nose and eyes. I think most are looking at skintone when they say his daughter looks more like him.
@Lonao Yeah maybe so not really on it as I am not that into but in my opinion eddie murphy is old hat chris rock rocks but richie pryor rules - oh and MY OPINION is MINE and its VALID before you come back with some comedy knowhow
@Lonao kind of narrow minded there dude, Eddie Murphy and Chris Rock drew from a massive amount of comedic talent that came before them, granted Pryor was probably the biggest influence on both of them but you make it sound as if they just blatantly set out to do Richards act which im sorry is just untrue
@lickstickly ofc it's untrue, luckily i never claimed such thing. I do some stan up myself too, i watch alot of comedians, on yotube, live etc. Learning from somebodys stand up-act doesnt mean you have to copy him.
@markeithmm89 Its my opinion ok made it months ago and I have moved on to other things I LOVE RICHARD PRYOR FOLLOWED BY CHRIS ROCK HELL FUCKING YES its my opinion and I love it dont reply as I will not change my mind and I am to be honest not interested
Simply a great great man. A genius and master of his craft. He's the standard by which other stand ups should be judged, but I'm not sure there are any in the same league.
That was a profound jewell Dick Gregory dropped at the end. R.I.P. Richard Pryor the greatest comedian ever. I even noticed that not only was he the first to play all these different parts in one movie he had the one glove before Mike! L.O.L.
I was born in 78 and never really got the chance to experience this mans legacy and works but i ordered all his albums after viewing this and will try to see all of his movies. The greatest that ever did it!
All six parts of this made for wonderful viewing, and gave a lot of insight to someone I grew up with, admired, and even for where some of my own humor is concerned--emulated. It was great to have seen this, and I want to thank any/all involved for putting it up here for all of us.
I saw Richard Pryor on an episode of a bad sitcom called Malcolm and Eddie (starring Eddie Griffin and some guy called Malcolm) just before he died, and it was really, really depressing. I got the feeling he was only on the programme because the two stars had wanted to pay tribute to him, because they had both taken their styles from him. He couldn't remember his lines, quite clearly. It might well have been the thing Paul Mooney mentions here, in fact. There might be a clip of it somewhere...
What a great special :) I like that they examined more of his comedy than spending TOO MUCH time dissecting his personal life. Made it more meaningful. Great post, thank you :)
As Whoopie says, Richard Pryor....The Truth!! Best description of the most talented performer ever!! Big shout out to Ish for posting the series...sensational!
YOu know, I never usually get affected by the passing of someone famous but was genuinely upset when Richard died. I find it difficult to watch images of him suffering withthe MS and prefer to re-watch him in anything he did. Saw his first stand up video when just a kid and it is testament that his comedy could reach a white middle-class British kid every bit as much as the Afro-American audience that much of his material related to. That is comedy genius. So yeah, thanks for posting these :-)
I had no idea pryor died in 2005.I liked him but i never realy followed much of what he did and i only saw "Live in concert" and "On the sunset strip" and thought he died in the 90's or somewhere around that time but after seing this documentry i want to see more of him.
Thank you so much for this tribute. Richard Pryor was comedy personified. I love what Dick Gregory had to say - "When I buy that candle is, yes, light it and enjoy the flame. I don't want to know what went into it, I don't want to know who made it, all I want to do is enjoy the flame and I know when I take this flame into a dark room, it lightens up the room. That's what Richard did to my spirit and to my soul." Miss you, Richard!
what!? when i said psycho-racist, i was referring not to richard pryor but to some poster on youtube. the poster was making inflammatory remarks which were later removed. that's why you see my previous comments which seem out of context, but were actually responses to that poster. his comments were removed mine were not.
Fantastic. Thanks for posting this. Richard Pryor is one of my heroes. It is truly brave to put the biggest tragedies in your life, tell them to millions of people and make jokes about them.
thank you so much for this. he was simlpy the funniest person ever to walk on this planet. no one has made me laugh more or harder. first concert movie funniest movie. i have ever seen. watched at least 50 times still funny.

BRAVO! BRAVO! All six parts of this was very appropriate. And just seeing Sir Lenny with all those American Greats was an even greater treat!
It would've been even COOLER if Sir Lenny was with Eddie (or even Charlie) Murphy in this docko!
My thanks to you for posting this! I will watch again.
