  • anyone know the music in the braun blender ad?

  • I was going to say how awful the comedy was, and while it is, on reflection its no worse than what itv is airing currently.

  • "there's no old rubbish as prizes in this show" *shot of vauxhall astra...

    i beg to differ

  • laugh

  • If ITV had decided to broadcast live abortions they couldn't have been less funny than this. I'm not Ben Elton or anything but really... Jews, Chinese, Japanese, gays, Everton fans.... Tarby had an unfunny quip for everyone in the world didn't he?

  • Odd that the schedule featured two back to back gameshows - the old IBA was far from fond of them. And I never knew Robert Kee hosted Seven Days - thought it was always Michael Charlton.

  • Dear god, he got paid for that??

No wonder Ric Mayall and Ade Edmondson destroyed Tarby's career with their Filthy Rich and Catflap series.

  • Wow, Tarby was appalling - and the 'jokes' - dear Jesus...

Incredibly the Jay Leno show here in the US has just about reached that level of cutting edge, 25 years after it was already out of date in the UK.

  • And on that bombshell...

  • I recall December 1984 very well, because that's when our black & white TV finally died...Don't ask.

  • The blazer, the set, the utter lack of charm, the jokes with.... Tarby is Alan Partridge. Thanks for this clip. Yep, I was there, lying on the carpet, another Saturday night of tedious telly.... Would I be allowed to stay up for that repeat of The Professionals?

  • OK... You have to give him that one.. "Elton John's wedding... surprise, surprise". Yeah, OK Tarby, you made us smirk with that one. That was a lucky shot.

  • "Tarby and friends"? God, were we really that hard up??

  • i don't think we are in a position to call these days hard up time. tarby is better than most of todays crap.

  • moar Punchlines!

  • I have that episode on a tape somewhere.

and why did LWT cut off Cannells logo? were LWT trying to make people think they made it alongside Universal? Its also awkwardly cut, you can hear the note leading into the Cannell logo.

  • I should not be laughing at this!

  • Why would the British people watch the A-Team?

  • Good question. My thoughts exactly. I, too, also have always thought Britain was a third-world country with people who are incapable of watching American TV-shows. Intrieging...

  • UK which has THE BIGGEST finical centre in the world!

  • hehe;-)

  • Cos it's one of the best shows ever! =)

It never took itself too seriously, unlike the daren't-break-a-smile tripe of today

  • why woulod septics watch british TV ad's on youtube?

  • The fuck are you on!?

Why shouldn't we watch it? It was wonderful TV, as is proved by the fondness it is remembered with today. Why do you (if you are American) watch British TV or listen to British bands? Stop being so secular, people are people and what one person in one country enjoys, another person in a completely different country and culture will equally enjoy.

  • Nice one. Dunno about Tarby's jewish jokes. they wouldn't go down too well now. Mmmm?

  • Just in case you're wondering the punchline to the joke which was cut off the end is; "iceberg, goldberg, wineberg you're all the same to me." This has to be regarded as a historial piece, times were different and not necessarily better or worse.

  • Wow, I can't believe that I miss those times.

  • I reciprocate the sentiment, GroundskeeperRonnie...Jeez...And I thought Ant and Dec were bad.

  • In the HTV region, we used to get the Stephen J Cannell sting. I remember it well.

  • It may have been left on in different parts of the country - even first-run episodes were shown at different times in some regions.

But don't get confused with the late '80s/1990s reruns, which left the sting on.

  • the sting rocked. I think later seasons showed it in london.

  • HTV? What's that? Scottish Highlands? Ours was Granada.

  • HTV is Wales.

  • And the West Country (Bristol, Somerset, Gloucester and Wiltshire)

  • ... and Pearl Harbour involved Japan and not China. But I suspect such details didn't matter in those days.

  • BTW what time (do you remember?) did Tarby come on anyway?

  • Very cool. Very cool. But what got me was the A-Team clip. Used to *adore* The A-Team when it was on here in the states. And yes we got to see the Cannell logo, just some guy typing stuff and then throwing the paper in the air, which morphs into a C. Cannell! ok.

  • Poor old Stephen J Cannell! All he wants to show us is his impeccable typing skills, throwing his A4 into the air with a flourish and what does LWT do? Cut him off in his prime! Sometimes his thought and care seem deliberately wasted on us. Mike S.

  • I'm sure half of those jokes are still in Tarby's act!!!

  • Ah, Punchlines, 3-2-1, Tarby, Duncan Novelle!!! And I used to looove The A Team as a kid!!

The Old Spice ads were classic too.

  • The Stephen J. Cannell tag began being shown about 3/4 through the UK run. At least, in all of the Southern-end-of-country regions.

I love The A-Team, but Tarby is embarrasing.

  • This sort of thing almost makes me want to agree with those who dismiss *all* ITV of the time ... the difference is, of course, that it wasn't all like that.

  • I always remember seeing the Stephen J Cannell endcap after the A-Team on Ulster Television back in the day.

The announcer is Sue Peacock, btw.
