So yea cool, brag about 50mpg and have fun driving a silent car that does 0-60 in 11 s. I'll be blowing gasoline fumes and your ears out when i pass you on the road. . Oh and if you dont belive me do the math.. Let say you get a class 5 prius. $28k, 1k miles a month 45mpg you spend $66 a month on gas after 5 years from your carpayment thats $31k, my v8 gets 12mpg and its paid for. After 5 years $14k, so it would take me 10 years of getting 12mpg to equal what you spent on buying this
Has has nice gadgetry haha... The prius has very very limited features.. Asside from that nav screen your awsome prius is no more advanced as far as gadgets come then my 12 year old Jeep. In fact you get less features . You get a plastic steering wheel, cheap cloth seats. Im all for new tech and getting better gas mileage, but what some people dont relise is you still pay for gas and with your carpayment it would take 10+ years to equal what a paid off car getting 12mpg has to spend.
@1ownjoo2 Suppose gas is $5.00 a gallon and you drive 3,000 miles per month and you buy a used Prius for $22,000 that gets 50 miles per gallon. Then, the numbers look a lot better. As far as speed, I just use a car for transportation. I haven't been into hot roding a car since I was a tean ager.
No one drive 3k miles a month unless you are the low 10% who actually do. Most people drive 1200 miles a month. Hell, my mom who worked in D.C had to drive 30 miles to and then from to work everyday and use the vehicle for everything else as it was the only one we had at the time, and she still only averaged 1500-1600 miles a month. If you drive 3k miles a month maybe you should move closer to work ? You have to be driving 105 miles a day everyday to get that lol
So yea i dont think that 3K mile anology is practicle for most people unless you are the one who actually drives that much to work, in anycase i think you should move closer to work. All im saying is for the average person lets take 1500 miles with $5 gas. 3k / 50mpg = 30 gal x 5 x12 mo = $1800. Now 3k / 18mpg = 83 gal x 5 x12 mo = $5k. Now 5k x 4 = $20k, however 1800x4 is $7200 + that 2k left over, is almost another 2 years. It would take almost 6 years to pay itself off
I guess since i dont drive very far i dont see the point in the prius. I can understand tho the need for it if you drive alot to work tho i agree. Even i would hate my prized V8 lol. I know how bad it is on long trips. I took a 70 mile drive the other day on the freeway bout 2 hour drive total, and my Jeep used almost 6 gallons of a tank of gas and i need to use 93 lol :) Im glad my work is close by, i drive like 700 miles a month an average 13mpg, so i spend $2k a year
Pop the hood of a Ford, Chrysler or GM cars and you will see Chinese parts inside these so called American cars. Some folks bash Toyota but never realize that we now live in a global market and car parts are made from many different countries. So go ahead and buy American, buy Toyota, Honda, Kia, Hyundai, Ford, Chrysler, Mazda, and GM. Its all good. Its all about the freedom of CHOICE!
I'm getting my 2010 winter grey Prius IV with solar panel package. I can't wait, I love the look of this car and find it one of the most comfortable car i have sat in in a long time.
I have had my new Prius 2010 for 3 days. I love it and can understand why the guy says 90% of Prius owners would have another one. It looks sexy, has excellent gadgetry (love the head up display, hard disc drive and reversing camera) and runs beautifully quielty and smoothly. I feel good about driving such a green car and would recommend anyone who is considering one to get a test drive.
I love this car. I drove about 300 miles already and only consume 1/2 tank of Gas. The engine is so quiet and run smoothly. It is absolutely environmental friendly.
@1ownjoo2 So it sounds like you're not familiar with the typical Prius owner then. As a pizza guy, I spend about 60% of my income on gas alone in my Subaru. With a Prius, the money I save on gas at the pump comes very close to making the entire car payment on a 2 year old Prius today. Taxi companies and other delivery drivers are using them too, and it's not uncommon to drive 400-1,000 miles _per day_ for some of these people. I know someone with a 2009 that has over 350,000 miles on it already.
@1ownjoo2 In those fringe cases (which are much less fringe with Prius owners) they're practically a no-brainer. Even in my not-so-fringe case, I could either keep dumping my money in my '03 Subaru gas tank and be driving an 8 year old car with 200k+ miles on it, or have a '09 Prius with 40k miles on it almost for free in just 5 years. You should also check the maintenance expenses most Prius owners have. A huge number get 200k+ miles without even needing a brake job, much less any repairs.
Then what by then you prius will be 8-9 years old. It doesnt really pay itself off at all and the prius i still say is really cheaply built inside. You get nothing its too cheesy fealing..
My 13 year old Jeep is a lot better inside, more features and softer seats, Jeeps at this age were put together so simply i do my own repairs if it ever comes down to it. We have 2 of them, one has 170k miles and has needed nothing but brakes and tires. Your argument to me is not valid
@1ownjoo2 Your argument that my Prius would be 8-9 years old doesn't negate that I'd pay nothing for it due to gas savings. It also loses its validity by its implication that there's something wrong with an 8-9 year old vehicle, and then going on to say that your 13 year old jeep is somehow better. What happens in the intervening 5 years to change a vehicle's value? A paid for vehicle is paid for regardless, and one that's paid for by gas savings is better than one that's paid for out of pocket.
But thats the thing, by the time your vehicle is paid for it will be old, they did an article about this on the news not to long ago, buying a new hybrid to save money is pointless because you arent saving anything. They dont get any better gas mileage then a 4 cylinder engine from the 70's. And yes my 13 year old vehicle is better then a prius.. I've been in those things, top gear reviewd them as one of the most uncomfortable, poorly put together vehicles ever.
@1ownjoo2 Kind of like your Jeep would be old by the time it was paid for if bought new and financed. There's no difference in that regard between a Prius or any other car-- they will all be old by the time they're paid for if financed over several years. Try this, 2 people with the same income, one buys a new Jeep financed for 5 years, the other buys a new Prius at similar option level financed for 5 years. Who comes out ahead in the end? The Prius in most cases but it depends on miles driven.
@1ownjoo2 In my case you'd be correct, I wouldn't save money by buying a Prius over keeping my old Subaru. But if I did buy a Prius, I would now have 2 cars instead of 1, one of them being several years newer with many fewer miles on it. Having the same net income while having a greater material worth is however a net gain, and in the world of finances, that can sometimes be considered a savings. And when the Prius is paid for like my Subaru or your Jeep, the true savings begin.
Yea thats only when it will start to shine, or unless we were one those crazy people who drive like 2k miles a month to work instead of moving closer lol.
@1ownjoo2 I'll give you those points. Really it comes down to personal preference. A lot of people will opt for the gas savings, or perceived gas savings even if they're not that much for them. Some will pay the premium for the sake of spurring new technology and investment. Others will do it for ego. And still others just because they like the quiet of not having an engine running all the time. I like that one too. But others will prefer a truck or a Jeep or a V8. To each their own I say. :)
You mean without acting like a kid, and cursing, and calling you names.. I rarely ever do that lol.. whats the point. I agree most people on here cant even talk about anything without it.
I just traded in my 07 Mercedes E class for the 2010 Prius IV. I must say I love my Prius, I can see why people who have owned a Prius brag about it. I don't have any complaints about the car, other than they run out fast, so you're limited on the color and base option. People had holds on them, so whenever the allocation came in they would run out so fast. I am happy with my decision.
The Prius is an awesome car, I was expecting seeing more action with the Prius than talking about others. Show the dash and how nice it looks and all the gadgets and dispays work. Not a graphic. Can we see how the airbags work by having mr. sir talks alot crash into something?
u know what, there are cars out there that do get better gas mileage, take for example the bluemotion VW. but the prius i have to say has better features, looks better, and its much bigger. prius all the way
The early reservation is begun in Japan as for new Prius of the third generation and the reservation that exceeds 50,000 will already have been done in one month.
The thing that the reservation like this enters before it puts it on the market is a surprise. And, the car delivery waiting will become long. We will recommend the thing reserved ahead of time when doing because you also are aiming at Prius. ..usual new model sale.. reservation twice or more has already entered in Japan because.
