ibm does a lot of business with government agencies. They even built the worlds current fastest super computer for the military. IBM has used the same matte-black design for years and I don't anticipate that changing. I have used every type of thinkpad including this one and despite a "boring" look I prefer solid performance over the flashy cheapo construction of HP notebooks.

no, you have to have owned a thinkpad, they are so much nicer than the cheap laptops, the design is classic and they are made to work well, designed with ease of use in mind, they don't make you crack open half a dozen parts just to change a harddrive or whatever.

They're great for replacing notebooks! I use mine for all of my classes...When friends need to see notes, I just publish to PDF and send them by e-mail.

Field workers also can benefit from these laptops for the same reasons.

It kinda sucks now because its so hard to upgrade it to Windows Vista, and now Lenovo doesn't release drivers for us to upgrade so we're left in the dust

Only suitable for people who dont wanna miss out on having a touchscreen.

(I got a wacom Cintiq 12wx. I'd prefer that million times over a damn laptop that has a touchscreen).

This so reminded me of that new phone with the notepad is transparant.

They should make more money by cutting down on making stupid things nobody really wants or needs.
