LOL No. This is the first and only cymbal I've owned that cracked. I suspect it was a defect in the casting process when the cymbal was made. First it cracked on one side, then a second crack started 180 degrees on the exact opposite side of the crash. I kept playing it with the cracks as it still sounded decent, but eventually it started breaking off in chunks. I kept one small piece that broke off and made it into a key chain...and even it sounds like a very tiny bell.
DUDE i did the exact same thing. I got a free Z-custom crash the was completely cracked so i used a grinder and turned it into the same thing urs is. they sound exactly alike!
doood i did this too! but i tried to make it into a 12 splash.... it no work:( i basically ruined my freinds acustom (even though it was trashed like this). you should try a plasma cutter, thats what i did, and it works alot better and requires less grinding. all you need to do is put a logo on it and call it a zil bel! haha
I did it today! Came out great, although i didn't use a dremel because i think the motor is burned out in mine or something... it wouldnt turn on. Tinsnips, a file, and bench grinder =]
you can make it into a splash...
but never mind, it is cool anyway...
sorry for bad english, i'm from serbia..

what did you use to polish the edges to make it look so sexy?
jballz1234567890 8 months ago
@jballz1234567890 I used a bench grinder to take the points off, then I used the wire brush grinder wheel to smooth the edges.

how long it lasted to work your crash into that?
BarbababaBabarMama 2 years ago
A total of about 4 or 5 hours. That includes grinding it down and polishing the edges.

i have two cracked crashes (thanks alot ZBT), this might be a good project for at least one of them.

I actually just did what you did, only we used the dremol afterwords, for cutting the big pieces i was lucky to have a bigger cutter.
Now a got a nice little bell that sounds like the 100 dollar ones, for the price of a broken crash.

Great project dude. Ive never had a cymbal break that bad though :P
I take it that the bell rings more like an actual bell when you cut the rest of the cymbal away because the body of the cymbal isn't limiting it?

haha
GREAT :P
I wish i could have that cymbal
