It seemed like it sank pretty slow, and they were right by land... Couldn't they quickly dock, arrange for the passengers to stay in a hotel then fly home, and just repair the ship?

(The shore over there is abrupt like a bath tub. the ship pretty damn heavy, and I think even at ship yards, where they make them, they don't have cranes big enough to lift them - the usually roll ships into water. there wasn't even a big ship nearby to tie Sea Diamond to it if they wanted to.. And to fix it, they'd have to pump the water out- and it's like millions of liters. And I wouldn't work on a boat thats about to sink

I know...Outside of shallow waters, I've always been totally creeped out by the depths of ocean waters once cameras go below the surface - and one report has this wreck teetering on a shelf overlooking an 1800 ft. abyss

Yeah, it's still there, about 200 feet down..

there are plans to raise it though because there's an oil leak somewhere and it's polluting the water..

attempts were made to try and prop the ship up againt the cliffs whilst repairs were in planning stages but the authorites deemed it to dangerous for any crew to enter the ship
