As someone who has worked with the polyester based resins in labs and light industry, I'm curious about the set times. Always had little bubbles in the quick set, but that was alright since we were just using it to fix the sample in place.
Check out the Heart Float Transparency (at CraftAmor channel). It is a segment from the above Creative Catalyst Productions DVD and actually shows a little.
I would say NO because it creates fumes...must use a mask and gloves with it to prevent inhaling the vapors and preventing the resin from getting on your hands. It's not recommended for children.
I've seen some people use Ultra Thick Embossing Enamels (UTEE) but I've never used them myself. I think (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) it's thick embossing powder you'd melt and then pour into a pendant. But this would be for small projects.
None of the projects in the DVD deal directly with candy, but Sherri does have a book on resin and it most definitely does deal with the candy question.
If your interested in Sherri's book,"The Art of Resin Jewelry," you can find it many places. The place I work sells it, but most bookstores will carry it. Sherri also sells it on her site.
You should wear a respirator and plastic gloves when using resin. Though there is a new "non-toxic resin" called aqua-resin. Give it a look. I've never used it,but some people use it when strengthening armor for costumes. I don't know how well it works for casting though.
@Kakichum Making it with candy isn't so hard. I just did a project with sprinkles (as in the one for cupcakes and cakes and such). The best way to do it (I used a deep ish mold, maybe a centimetre, is by pouring some resin in, then sprinkles, then letting it set a bit, then pour more resin / sprinkles, then let it sit, then top it off. If you just pour the sprinkles all in before pouring it also looks neat but if you pour them after filling the mold with resin they will sit near the top too much
I hate when this happens......When people make ads like this it makes me not want to watch anything from them.

I thought this video was going to show me how to do stuff. Sorry, won't be buying the DVD. Good luck with it.

you can't expect all fine artists to give their YEARS of experience and learning away for free ;) good luck with your projects though.
