  • WTF! It's just a great song/piece of art. Nothing more or less. It ranks up there with everything she has done. Stop trying to make it political (past, present or future)

  • the explanation for the "predictions" you think you hear in LA's work is the same explanation

for why you believe you are a good person

    this is the ti

  • A prophet sees visions in dreams that turn out to have been weirdly prescient with hindsight. Laurie Anderson isn't the only artist to have visualised 9-11 somehow, years before the fact.

    See Alan Moore's 'Watchmen'.

  • my aunt who died in 99' turned my mom on to this when it first came out now shes turnin me on to it

    GREAT WEIRD COOL AWESOME WOW

  • on s'en va tous là

  • there were no pilots

  • cool song, so utterly hypnotic and original. Haven't heard this in years.

I was introduced to this song by an individual who actually crashed in a plane. He loved listening to this song?

  • halopooner801 quotes= "anyone notice she basically predicted 9/11 on this whole album?"

er...no, i obviously keep missing this supposed prophetic foresight. Do you keep tin hat on when you go shopping

  • Aren't we so cool and so very Against Interpretation. Actually a prophet is not someone who magically foresees the future. He or she is someone who's pulled his or her head out of his or her ass, and sees where things are going in a country so up until so very recently so very smug, self-satisfied, incurious and grossly obese.

  • anyone notice she basically predicted 9/11 on this whole album?

O superman, "Here come the planes.

They're American planes. Made in America."

    Spooky right?

Then this song with this is your captain we are going down. We are all going down together, and i said uh oh this is gonna be someday.

    That's so creepy

  • just cuz its put that way doesnt mean she predicted it. it just so happens that it was a coincidence.

  • NO this song is awesoe

  • kinda how tupac, even though deceased, predicted things in the future with his songs that came out after his death.

  • Laurie is a songwriter.

    Laurie is a composer.

    Laurie is a visionary.

    Laurie is an artist.

  • sempre splendida!

  • as sampled by Mr. Lif on Home of the Brave..

  • grazzie per questo.

  • I am Scared

  • Thank you! It must be at least 20 years since the last time I heard this. I've got mr. Heartbreak and still listen to it (love Blue Lagoon so much), but I never got Big Science because this is the only track on the album I really like. So good to hear it!

  • I have always thought this was the scariest song of all time. Love Laurie!!

  • It does have a certain surreal scariness to it.

  • Why does this song make me cry?

  • *sniff*

  • lol

  • this makes you cry because it is something deeper than what our brains can piece together. That is why there are many Laurie haters. Perhaps they have no emotions...

i think this song is beautiful scary funny and wonderful its that song that can put ur imagination to work the song that puts that unexplainable faint tingle behind your sternum... a song that brings our souls out of its shell.

    wow i sound crazy lol

  • I also have nothing against gay or retaded people, I will take care of the responsible party that wrote those horrible comments, I apologize for their ignorance.

  • absolutely no problem.

    bye

  • Those were not my comments, someone was on my computer, I think Laurie Anderson is fantastic.

  • you are gayyy and this song is retarted.

  • Now that you got this load off your chest,

    I hope you feel better.

  • Captin Says? Really Why Should We Trust What Captin Says!!! Put Your Hands On Your Head Put Your Hands On Your Hips?. Why Should I Listen To Captin?

  • wiki: simon says (for determine cause inside joke)

  • It's as if life is a plane ride. Everyone crashes out eventually. It seems like there's a pilot, organising everything. Even a crash landing is part of his plan. But really, "There is no pilot". However, "You are not alone." We are "Going down together", and that's what you have to live for.

  • sampled by mr lif in 'home of the brave'

  • Hah, thanks...I was sitting here trying to think who sampled this..I knew I had the track but wasn't about to crate dig to find it.

  • i dont get it!

what is she talking about? please tell me!

  • a planes gonna crash.

  • i dont think so. theres more to it

  • yeah but thats the gist of it... how donchu get it.

  • Well, I see a lot of dialogue regarding authority in this. This "captain" who, by the very definition of his/her title, takes it upon himself to instruct the "community"-community as in "We are all going down together."

  • Why should we trust what this captain says-

especially when he is going to play 'Simon Says' at such a difficult time? Also, there is the element of time. Time gets recorded by those with power. The captain says "This is the time and this is the record of the time," suggesting that how time is recorded and how it actually passes is not the same. The captain has authority and, therefore, only he will dictate how history is recorded....Any help?

  • ok thanks so much another thing i dont get the part where he says "were going to try a crashlanding"

  • also the part about ciggarettes and seats? thanks a bunch.

  • I like Laruie Anderson. She's cool.

  • Fantastica ... una volta ha detto che la sublimazione dell'arte sarà la telepatia ... l'artista nn dovrà più dipingere, scolpire, comporre ... dovrà solo trasmettere le proprie emozioni !!!

  • sorry its the same song just not laurie singing it

  • there is a song that uses the same lyrics of laurie with a more eighties sound

can anyone help its been five long years , i'm nearly there

  • stand by

    I did

    and it worked

    thank you laurie anderson

  • These lyrics are so funny. "We are about to attempt a CRASH landing. Please, extinguish all cigarettes. Place your tray tables in their upright, locked positions."

  • aahahhahhaahaahahahaahahah

  • 1 of my favorite laurie tracks

  • This is the first Laurie Anderson song I ever heard. I bought "Big Science" the very next day.

  • The audio track for Pattern Recognition is by Laurie Anderson and Julia Heyward from the Nova Convention.

  • I love this song. Nice attempt to put lyrics... it is hard to make sync, I know... but it helped many people that are not native english speakers to understand the song.

  • obrigado

  • Thank you for this

  • the lyrics are a bit moved in time.

  • Yes, you are right. I used WMovie Maker, and tried to make written lyrics coincide as possible with the song, but still there is a little delay. I hope it is not too disturbing. My uploading is not a masterpiece, I know, but the song itself is a masterpiece...
