Why should we trust what this captain says-

especially when he is going to play 'Simon Says' at such a difficult time? Also, there is the element of time. Time gets recorded by those with power. The captain says "This is the time and this is the record of the time," suggesting that how time is recorded and how it actually passes is not the same. The captain has authority and, therefore, only he will dictate how history is recorded....Any help?
