  • This version sucks, not enough pain

  • Who is the guy singing this? He has a awesome voice !

  • @TheRedDash That's Clint Lowery. He's normally doesn't sing, but he was perfect for this one. He has some acoustic based solo projects in case you are interested.

  • didnt he mess up at the end? instead of saying, "I would keep myself" he says "I will let you down" again

  • Comment removed

  • I enjoyed the cover song, but at the end when the singer said 'Johnny Cash ya'll, Johnny Cash', I couldn't quite decide whether or not I should have expected more (read: WHO WROTE IT, REALLY? CASH OR REZNOR?) from Sevendust.

I mean, I've come to expect it from the MTV crowd. They really think Johnny Cash wrote 'Hurt', not Trent Reznor.

  • I am tired of people giving credit to Cash, really. HE DID NOT WRITE THIS SONG!

  • @SGTpigratfish He may not of written it, but he made it his own.

  • @SGTpigratfish It's a bit like Jimi Hendrix with "all along the watchtower". The original was great but everyone remembers the cover, and probably for good reason. In both cases a middling song in the original artists' repertoire was elevated by an inspired cover version.

Dylan and NIN fans generally prefer the originals, but for everyone else, great music is great whoever wrote it.

  • @andrewsurtees Sorry, but your statement that Hurt was one of NIN's "middling" songs is simply not true. It's been one of their flagship performances since its release in the mid-90's.

You're also wrong about All Along The Watchtower. Hendrix transformed folk into rock and created a totally different sound than what Dylan had originally produced. Conversely, Cash's cover of Hurt was pretty much the same as Reznor's, softened around the edges and presented in a different light.

  • is it just me or does the guitar sound similar to angels son

  • @MrAdrick1 It does, doesn't it?

  • @MrAdrick1 Its the same tuning as Angels Son :) thats probably why

  • 171 people do not understand good music to any extent.

  • A lot of people give flack to performers who make mistakes on stage. But the truth is it happens all the time. Its how you handle the mistakes that separates the professionals from the amateurs. When he messed up the lyrics a couple of times, he didn't skip a beat. He put something there and made it work. That's the sign of a professional and he deserves respect for that.

  • Reznor wrote it, many covered it, Cash made it his own. Say what you will, a dying, broke, old widower with a lifetime of regrets puts feeling into it that young millionares never could. Junkies or not. Take a song like Wagon Wheel by Bob Dylan. Covered a million times but when I hear it, I think of Against Me!, or at least Tom Gable. Many artists write songs that become synonomous with another artist. Imitation is the sincerist form of flattery.

  • @MadMedic9

Bob Dylan is still Bob Dylan, Like Glenn Miller is still, Glenn Miller. Dizzy Gillespie. Covers are rarely greater than the original. Attempts by modern bands are often as you say, sincere flattery. Really though, imo, no one can do what They did. We can't even get our hats on right.

  • @funkleatus and just for the sake of saying it... ur a cunt :)

i think it's a nice cover (this version) but pretty shitty that he sings the wrong lyrics for the last two lines of the second verse... it totally fucks it up.... it's supposed to be "you are someone else I am still right here" but he seems to forget the lyrics and says "I am someone else, but I remember everything" (the latter half being the last line of the first verse. He sings beautifully though... Lajon should have sang as well

  • I LOVE SEVENDUST!

  • Just for the sake of saying it, Trent reznor has made a successful career of putting out the same rearranged crap for 20+ years. He was a faggy little synth-pop reject in the 80's

  • This is the best version of this song by nine inch

  • @zsallen394 depeche mode originally wrote the song in the late 80s. Johnny Cash did a cover of it as well the band Marilyn Manson. On their Lest We Forget album.

  • the profanity that nin uses kinda throws off the vibe of the song i think

  • @BigJT2010 Not at all, makes it seem more decimated.

  • guys it says dedicated to Johnny Cash not covering a Johnny Cash song. learn how to fuckin read.

  • Comment removed

  • YA KNOW I LOVE THIS COVER, BUT IT ABSOLUTELY INFURIATES ME THAT THEY GIVE THE CREDIT TO JOHNNY CASH. IT'S NOT HIS FUCKING SONG. DON'T GET ME WRONG, I LOVE JOHNNY CASH BUT TRENT REZNOR WROTE THE GOD DAMN SONG AS NIN SO GET IT RIGHT BRO.

  • @silverzsplizash You know why they credit Johnny Cash right? well if not it is because Cash had just died when they played this. So they were just showing respect to him.

  • Yeah johnny cash covered Hurt.

  • Trent Reznor ladies and gentlemen!

  • This is my favorite version of hurt

  • beautiful.

  • Awesome Sevendust cover !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Cash changed around some of the words like "dust" to "dirt" and "crown of shit" to "crown of thorns" ...and removed the use of profanity which NIN originally used. Sevendust uses the same lyrics of that as Cash, along with the slower tempo and single instrument (guitar not piano like Reznor) So Sevendust's cover is that of Cash's plain and simple. It is a cover of a cover lol and regardless of who did it first, It's a timeless song!

  • @TheGreyhound85

Reznor's lyrics are 'dirt', not dust. Cash did use 'thorns' instead of 'shit' though.

  • @TheGreyhound85

Reznor's lyrics are 'dirt', not dust. Cash did use 'thorns' instead of 'shit' though. When you say that Sevendust covers Cash, that is ridiculous. So you think it is a cover of a cover? hahaha. Great song though, indeed! You also say that this is a slower tempo. The original- and best- is slower than both Cash's and this (terrible) version. Sevendust did a better job with Hurt than Linkin Park (or whomever did it recently) did with Wish. Ugh.

  • @TheGreyhound85 Trent Reznor said he couldn't play his original version anymore because it belongs to Cash now, beautiful song.

  • @TheGreyhound85 actually Rick Rubin changed those words before he even handed it to Cash, because he knew Cash wouldnt sing the song if it was vulgar.

  • @TheGreyhound85 You don't do a cover of a cover - And NIN did a bunch of versions of "Hurt", most using guitar, not piano.

  • Hurt was first written and performed by NIN on the album Downward Spiral in '94. It was later covered in '02 by Cash. It was big for Cash because it was the last song he played before his death, as well as acquiring alot of fans who never heard it from NIN simply because the two artiest perform for quite differant audiances. Reznor and Cash were actually friends and considered it an honor. Reznors take on the song was more suicidal while Cash's was more spiritual.

  • @TheGreyhound85 Actually, Reznor never actually met Cash, but he liked the cover nonetheless

  • Beautiful

  • @Sexygirl666able then again my dad is old and he does like to think god sold us to the aliens so maybe he's wrong. ^.^

  • @Sexygirl666able incorrect. lol just to be true to both johnny cash and trent reznor

  • @Sexygirl666able 10/10 would rage again

  • The top comments gave that troll exactly what he wanted...attention. I wish my fuckin scroller broke sometimes.

  • it kinda upset me that he fucks up the words

  • LMAOOO, there's people who think this is Johnny Cash's song. Wow....

  • @bowden2112 A lot of them..Its a shame..Well, not shame..But its sad..

  • maybe they were more inspired by cash's version that the nine inch nails one? i know being born in '93, i heard the cash version first, and only really heard about nine inch nails years later. i don't really like that kind of music, whatever, it's fine, but if i did a cover of the song id dedicate to cash too, because that's the man who influenced me. music is an art form based mostly on performance anyway.

  • Whats wrong with dedicating a song to someone great like Johnny cash even if it is a cover of a song alread? To deny this is to deny their respect for mister cash

  • Wikipedia > Nine Inch Nails > The Downward Spiral > Track Listing > 14 > Hurt > First couple sentences. Instead of arguing back and forth without actually KNOWING, just try Googling or calling up your cool friends who actually know Nine Inch Nails. With the Interwebs, there should be no right or wrong, only right.

  • In my opinion I think NIN would of been honored to have a legend like Johnny Cash to cover their song, Sevendust, Cash, and NIN played this song beautifully. So please ppl quit fighting about who's song it is.

  • Pretty sure that's not sevendust... Ibe seen sevendust live.... That's not them...

  • @LedZeplican Its them bro.. its just not Lajon singing..

  • @LedZeplican so if the lead singer of a band doesnt sing a song it cant be them? haha you dope Lajon is wearing a white shirt to the right of the guy singing.

  • @amanfrate oh well sry to fuckin offend.... didnt see the nigger.... sevendust blows dick anyway... so you and lajon can go have some fun in the closet...

  • @LedZeplican oh well sry to fuckin offend.... didnt see the nigger.... sevendust blows dick anyway... so you and lajon can go have some fun in the closet...

  • @LedZeplican well myself and about 100's of 1k's would have to disagree with you. Sevendust is THE SHIT! go and listen to your shitty stairway to heaven (now THAT'S a song that blows big floppy donkey dick!). if you don't like the band or your a racist ignorant fuck then why watch or listen to Sevendust on you tube? and again Led Zeppelin blows chunks.

  • @amanfrate opinions are like assholes bro... everyones got one. and 1 i rly couldnt give a fuck about anything you may have to say... and 2 i watched the video and suffered through becuase i was interested in seeing how bad they would fuck it up... and the sad part is, is they covered the johnny cash version of this song... which is actually better then the original mind you, but you dont cover covers.... that is of course unless you are a sevendust....

  • @amanfrate i saw them play live opening for sevenfold and every fucking song sounded the same.... at least zeppelin songs have a different way of sounding.... for each song.... so i again i rly couldnt care any fucking less about what you and 100's and 1k's of ppl may have to say so i hope you take that into consideration when you are thinking about what to say when you reply to these comments because im not going to read your reply.... so dont waste your time..... cunt

  • @LedZeplican ASSHOLE MOTHERFUCKER!!!!

  • @RAIDERTOM02 WOAH!!!! someone knows how to use his big boy words! good job thomas your mother has taught you well. :)

  • nin wrote it. cash made it famous.

  • awesome cover but he fucked up the lyrics a few times, wtf

  • This is the only version of the song i like!

  • @leemahoney85 best is johnny cash...

  • Adjunior thanks for this vid great song cover by 7dust and Clint lowery I like the song first time I've seen the vid so thanks brotha

  • This cover is fuck... is this really sevendust? Now, i don't like them anymore....

  • @ReichelleDianne pathetic... if you don't like it ok... but not liking the band anymore because of this is just patheitic, they deserve better

  • @ReichelleDianne Haul azz then you simpleton!! The world is full of shittards. Uhuru sasa!!

  • haha i am someone else? isnt it you are someone else?

  • one of the hardest songs to mess up... still possible just hard

  • Comment removed

  • Hey guys, I think DeliveryManBoy is just trolling you guys. He knows that Trent wrote it. But Trent did say in an interview shortly after Johnny Cash's death that although they did the song first, due to the fan base and how Johnny sang the song, he felt like it was just a cover before the original came out. Maybe he's being ignorant and misunderstood what Trent was saying in the interview. But all in all, just ignore kids that put "man" in their name, it's a dead giveaway that he's a kid.

  • @candiisky know what you're talking about man, check the dates.

  • @candiisky Not true my friend! Doesn't sound right at first, I give that to you, but it is indeed a song by NIN, covered by Cash

  • @candiisky Is not true... Is the productor Rick Rubin who has to propose this song of N.N a Johnny Cash ;-)

  • @candiisky johnny cash maked cover of Hurt by NINE INCH NAILS. lol

  • @Goldtacto Maked?

That's not past-tense for 'make' my friend.

Did you know that adolescence learn past tense words just by hearing it from conversation. They begin by saying things like "maked" and that shows that they are getting the concept of it. The begin to piece things together shortly after.

What is your explination for screwing this up?

  • @mAdHaTTer3392 LOL you obviously didnt read the guy i was replying to's comment i was making fun of him for saying maked but you obviously didnt do a little research

  • @Goldtacto I actually tried to though =/

    I couldnt find the comment!

I'm sorry dude.... that was meant for him then xD

  • @mAdHaTTer3392 lol its all good

  • @mAdHaTTer3392

You aren't much smarter. "Make" would need a comma after it, as "my friend" is an interjection. A question mark should end your first sentence, as the sentence is a question. Additionally, "adolescence" is a process; "adolescents" refers to physical people, and should have been used instead. The second "maked" needs a comma after: the sentence is a compound. "The" should be "They." "Explination" is spelled "explanation." Your grammatical references are atrocious, too. Happy?

  • Clint Lowery is just goddamn bad ass

  • this is the best cover of this song

  • yes but johnny verison is different than NIN verison just a bit but there both good version.

  • For those that keep asking about the Johnny Cash reference, This concert was held not too long after Johnny Cash's death and this song was dedicated to him because he had covered it himself. I had a few friends that went to it.

    @Hrafn22

Because the Johnny Cash cover used "I wear this crown of thorns"

  • this is def my fav version

  • I don´t understand why they changed lyric here, instead of "I wear this crown of shit." they used "I wear this crown of thorns." ... this version is very good but something could be done better, the cradle of song still lies in a way Reznor played it for the first time and only Johnny Cash matched it... very strange and torturing cover is made by YHDARL, that version is very extreme indeed due to genre they belong to : drone black metal with ambient influences... I recommend to all of you YHDARL

  • Nvm my fault

  • This is Johny Cash cover not Nine Inch Nails... Shame shame.

  • @MrCloudbusted

Suck me penis the hardly way, Cash made a cover of NIN.

  • whos singing? and how come lajon isnt singing?

  • @willjohn28 it's Clint, their guitarist.

Check out -Hello Demons, Meet Skeletons-

  • @willjohn28 lol..."who's singing??" .......Clint Lowry!........,my question for you is...how can you know lajons name....but not clints?

  • @skrypton1k i know... :P shame on me

  • fucking epic cover

  • johnny cash did cover it but they sound different all three versions are badass.

  • Delivery man boy. Johnny cash should not cover nine inch nails... this song was ORIGINALLY a nin song. Learn your music....

  • they did the best version by far.......followed by johnnys version

  • why isn't the actual singer (the afrodescendent) singing?

  • loganqld... Yes, Johnny Cash did cover it. the original artist is Nine Inch Nails!

  • nine inch cover??? what are you 10? any one heard of Johnny Cash? and even then i think he covered it

  • @loganqld Johnny Cash covered nine inch nails buddy.

  • Good cover. He has a nicer voice than I remembered.

  • "Hurt" is a song written by Trent Reznor, first released on Nine Inch Nails' 1994 album The Downward Spiral. In 2002, "Hurt" was covered by Johnny Cash to critical acclaim; it was one of Cash's final hit releases before his death.

  • @martinimos gotta be honest, I love Johnny Cash's version better. Just because I think the song describes him so well. He did a great cover of it. R.I.P Johnny Cash.

  • @martinimos you know i have been saying that since the song came out and people still argue lol

  • @DeliveryManBoy

    Dude. No.

  • @DeliveryManBoy didn't Depeche Mode cover Cash's "Personal Jesus" too off the same album? and Soundgarden covered "Rusty Cage"? dude seriously shut up. thats a huge rant that just says you don't know your shit.

  • @zsallen394 Someone got trolled.

  • @zsallen394

    cash covered rusty cage

    it was penned by soundgarden.

bloody hell thats why i hate fuckers doing covers, if the person who does the cover is more famous then the original singer, they automatically get credit for it

  • I see why NIN fans have such a hard time believing Reznor stole Hurt from Cash. I hate to admit it, but Reznor is a talented musician and has a wide bevy of appropriately moving and complex music. While I am not a fan of his, do to his blatant theft of Johnny Cash's song Hurt, I understand why you spend so much time posting mean things on my channel. NIN fans are sad and lonely people. It makes sense they would see Trent as a hero. But he shouldn't have covered Hurt.

  • @DeliveryManBoy ... No, completely wrong. Trent Reznor wrote the song. Johnny Cash covered it YEARS after NIN released it.

  • @JohnatMI dont worry about him i have seen this guy on every hurt cover video he is stubborn as fuck

  • @DeliveryManBoy TRENT REZNOR WROTE HURT IT WAS COVERED BY JOHNNY CASH AFTER IT WAS COVERED BY DAVID BOWIE!

  • @DeliveryManBoy Completely false statement. It's fine if you believe that Johnny's version of the song is better than Trent's but it was Trent who wrote it. Get Cash's CD and look at the liner notes if you don't believe it.

  • @DeliveryManBoy wow dude you're a fucking idiot!!! check the date the song came out you fucking moron! NIN didn't cover johnny cash. johnny cash covered them. ugh i hate ignorant people!

  • @DeliveryManBoy UAHUAHAUHAUAHUAHAUUAH Seriously? I'm not a fan of NIN, but when I first hear this song I liked so much that I was before the meaning of it and yes dude, it's from NIN. Check the videos, there is one of then playing with David Bowie back in 1995.

  • @DeliveryManBoy, you're a dumb ass.

  • not even close, bro.

  • @DeliveryManBoy I guess I see what you're saying but look everyone - Cash wrote a great song, Reznor did a great cover - so where the fucks the problem?...

    ..derp...

  • CLINT'S VOICE IS AMAZING

  • 1 band, 2 great singers. the actual video johnny cash made for this is pretty crazy, he's proper old in it :L

  • very good cover video. well done

  • the guy who keep talking is annoying, shut the fuck up dude!

  • and they probably dedicated it to cash because he, you know, DIED.

  • this is incredible

  • 163 JUSTIN BIEBER FANS

  • @bob200rps maybe, but I doubt it. Their cover just isn't that good-the singer's voice is rather monotone, in a bad way, the guitars sound like crap, and their stylings with the instrumentation is out of place.

  • Horrible rendition!

  • sevendust... dumb pigs, dedicated a NIN song to Johnny Cash, i bet they thought it was originally from him HAH

  • I would like this video if he didn't attribute the song to Johnny Cash....although his cover was great it Trent's song.

  • @yakkayakka360 he didn't attribute it to Cash, he sang it as a tribute to a man who covered it, this was right after cash died

  • who is that singing?

  • best version of this song by far

  • 1:09

    YEEAAAH

  • I actually like this version!

  • Love this version & would love to hear my son play it!!! I am trying so maybe you will see him doing a cover for it!!! ; ) Peace

  • I love both NIN and Cash versions.. even Trent Reznor said "it's not my song anymore" and the first time he heard Cash cover it, it felt like someone had kissed his girlfriend. lol... oh ya and this version BLOWS!

  • I was lucky to meet ALL of 7 Dust AND Trent..Both were really cool in person...never met Cash

  • The original by NIN is the best by far. Just the most emotion. It has inspired many artists and authors: Stephen King among others.

  • Nine Inch Nails WROTE the song in 1994, Johnny Cash COVERED it in 2004. The song was never released as single to the public, though, so many people never even knew the song existed until Cash covered it. They assumed it was his, although it was not. In my personal opinion, Cash made shit turn into sugar by covering that song, and Sevendust just made sugar turn into a fucking orgasm in my hear. It doesn't matter who made the song, it's amazing regardless.

  • Johnny Cash wrote and recorded a lot of music in his lifetime. He recorded a lot of serious songs, but he also recorded a lot of funny ones like “A Boy Named Sue.” There are a lot of Johnny Cash songs that I like. Some of my favorites are "Ring of Fire", "I Walk the Line", "Folsom Prison Blues", "Get Rhythm" and "Man in Black" just to name a few. But my favorite Johnny Cash song of all has got to be the song “Hurt.” Johnny Cash wrote the song in 1974 while serving time in Folsom prison.

  • @DeliveryManBoy You're wrong by far, Nine Inch Nails wrote this song, but johnny cash did do an awesome cover to get it huge. Trent Reznor was the person who actually wrote the song in 1994 and was on Nine Inch Nails album The Downward Spiral, and in 2002 Johnny Cash COVERED the song, he didn't write it. and it was his last hit before his death, but yes Trent Reznor (Lead singer of NIN) wrote this song.

  • @Crazysmiter1 wrong. check your facts before you go making wild statements. it was johnny cash who originally wrote this song. he just never had it recorded or copyrighted because he thought it was too special. Trent Reznor heard the song at a private engagement and recorded it as his own the following year. While johnny Cash never made a big deal about it, he was deeply offended to have his song covered by a necropheliac. There is a bit of evidence to this fact on my channel I have provided.

  • @DeliveryManBoy Dude, you are way off. How about you go look up facts, Trent Reznot wrote the song in 94' Johnny COVERED yes..COVERED the damn song in 2002, so don't start all this shit and make yourself look stupid. Maybe you should jump off Johnny cashs DICK and give the credit where it is due to Trent reznor. Go wiki the song man, you will realize you are wrong.

  • @Crazysmiter1 lmao...."jump off of johnny cash's dick"-----crackin me the fuck up.

  • @Crazysmiter1 Never argue with a retard it's impossible to win. We all know the song was written by Trent Reznor and Deliverymanboy is some stupid prick who is obviously delusional and can't read. The best we can do is flag his comments as spam and not give him the attention he so desperately craves.

  • @Legazki Well said, friend. Well said <3

  • @Legazki Well said, friend. Well said <3

  • NIN version sucks dogs balls!!!, SEVENDUST FOR LIFE

  • whogivesafuckwhowroteitwhosangitwhereitcamefromeitsallgoodandeverybodeyhasthereowninterpetaitiononitsofuckoffifyoudontunderstand.

  • Johnny Cash did a good COVER, but that will never be as good as NIN. Don't forget who came up with the song. Besides, it's best when taken in context with the rest of the Downward Spiral.

  • i love it so.

  • This is made too commercial. This song is about suicide and they let it sound like it would be good. Nine Inch Nails (The Origin) is the best version of the song

  • Johnny Cash yhallll!!! I like the cover but scream NIN not Johnny Cash. They made the song. I don't think Johnny Cash was that great at all.

  • SEVENDUST does the best cover of hurt!

  • Dedicated to Cash lol? I agree tho Cash and NIN (90s). In a way RIP NIN too.

  • They slipped up somewhat along the way

  • świetne

  • Portland Maine Cumberland County Civic Center May 1st I am going Can not wait please hurry!!!(*_*)

  • I think every one on here needs to stuff their cock holsters and appreciate the music.lol. This is a damn good song who cares what anyone else thinks anyways right? Were all entitled to our own opinion. Music is supposed to be heard not bitched over.

  • Well sheesh angry people. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe on not. Regardless, clearly some people take these comments way too personal and use cuss words to get points across. In turn, you portray yourself as an angry acne covered 14 year old boy who cannot control his testosterone and hormones. Try an adult-like approach and behaving like a civilized person; maybe you'll get somewhere in life. Horray for sevendust and this mans voice like an angel.
