The PS1 controller is not retro, not like the original Nintendo 8 is retro. (The PS1 controller is basically the PS3 controller without the analogue.) You don't associate 8-bit gaming with with a Playstation controller. A system with like 32 different colors to one with over 16 million colors.
@jbullen82 Now in 2012 there is a much better option, for the Wii version of Megaman 9 (and 10) with the Mayflash NES/SNES to Wii Adapter that lets you use any NES and SNES controller as a Wii Classic Controller so I can use my NES MAX to play Megaman 9 (and 10) and it only cost $15 from Playasia(dot)com. As for PS3 a USB NES RetroPort Adapter from RetroUSB(dot)com will let you plug any NES controller into the PS3 and you can't get more retro than using a NES controller.
Eh. You can just modify an NES controller to either a USB for the PS3 or the Gamecube port for the Wii. THAT'S how you play Mega Man 9 the retro way. :P
The controller has to tell the console its a PS3 controller even if its not.
ie the PS2>PS3 adaptor is tricking the PS3 into thinking the controller's for the PS3. Basically if you put the chip inside the adaptor into any other controller it would work (if it's wired correctly).
but... I don't like the new megaman, why had it to be pixelated again? (Idk why is this in my recomended videos lol)

I don't like third-party accessories that much, expect for Action Replay and Powerpak.

Excellent idea if you only own a PS3. If you have a Wii though using the Wii mote horizontaly is almost exactly like playing with a nes pad.

Even better is to get that USB Genesis controller...Or does that only work for PC?

That wouldn't work unless it had a PS3 controller chip inside.
