  • These dogs are such lovely examples of what selective breeding can produce over time.

    I think they're beautiful.

  • my dog is really smart and understands everything, she is friendly, loving and loyal. she is also independent and stubborn-not stupid! it's a big difference. i guess few more people will write the same thing because it is truth and we love our dogs!

  • Bahahahahaha!! OMG over 2 hrs of grooming, thats it? Own an OES (Old English Sheepdog) I'd gladly trade 2 hrs for the 2 days it takes to groom my OES in full coat.

  • @armyKristinm06 OMG! it takes so long!

  • heheh afghan....

  • Aloof, detached, need a good amount of food, need a lot of grooming.

    Sounds like a wonderful pet.

  • My afghan was really smart and understand everything. But he was very agressive and wild.We needed Cesar Millan! If you see show dog they are looks feminine...but watch out! They are very tough dog! But also Afghan is amazing dog, fine fine hair, body size, how strong the muscle, when they run you can feel their history.Long long time ago, wheh they were wild and haungting big animals in beautiful nature.I am sure they are addicting dog.

  • look like frank zappa

  • almost as gross looking as real afghani people, with twice the intelligence.

  • the black one had the same eyes as my old dog :)

  • Jeez what an ugly dog its like a combo of homo erectus and homo sapiens

  • this The dumbest dog in the world

  • The blonde ones remind me of Faremere from Lord of the Rings.

  • Afghans are hilarious because they have the "Morticia Addams" hairdo going on.

  • my afghan hunts fish and sleeps in the window JUST SAYIN

  • On a few lists i found, Afghan Hounds are the dumbest breed. just saying

  • @shopperbaby101 i don´t think you just watched just video, judging from your stupidness

  • I know an Afghan hound/golden retriever mix who is very intelligent but is not willing to listen to you. Afghan hounds are very intelligent. But they're very independent and cat-like. Which for some reason, humans seem to think is un-intelligence. Guess it just proves who the 'stupid' one really is.

  • @xperiaoliver how are their personalities different? trying to decide between those two breeds!!!

  • UGLY dog holy crap!

  • I own an Afghan, and she is my baby, i show her at shows and she is a phenomenon!

  • Afghan hounds look like some Jim Henson dreamed up...lol

  • They look like Snoop Dogg when he straightens his hair out.

  • @slimsladey omg

  • They are known to be the "least intelligent" dog breed. But it depends on what you consider "dumb". The people in this video were very right, some dogs just aren't smart in the way that they don't do tricks or listen to humans. They might be smart in other ways though. They are just independent. But I do prefer Dobermans and Rottweiler, and I have a poodle so.Justdepends on what you like.

Anyway they kinda look like they have facial hair.....so I say they look more like Dog the Bounty Hunter.

  • hahaha ""a dumb blonde""That was a good one

  • *cough*Cheewbacka*cough*

  • @Tormentor that's what i was thinkink lol

  • BLond bimbos of the dog world LOL

  • Me and my mom LOVE this breed! We are thinking of adding a female to are house hold of 5 people and 4 dogs lol! Were buying a house here soon so 5 dogs is ok! Are dogs are small and I really want a big dog and we like this breed! So it will be a few months till we are able to get one!

How many times do they have to be groomed? We have the time and money I am just carious?

  • @rantingmule mine is the same way. She follows us all around the house and is often underfoot so we end up tripping over her (shes 50 lbs too). Not to mention the huge fuss she makes whenever one of us gets home! I love her to death but I cant ALWAYS be there to give her attention lol.

  • @CowShimmy

Now we know who's the least intelligent commenter of this vid. They acknowledged that study from the very beginning. That test was only based on how well certain breeds respond to commands. Did you even watch the video?

"It is worth nothing the listing though is based on ability to follow commands, and obedience, which does not in itself equate to intelligence"

  • they a beautiful hound .

  • Afgans are the least intelligent dogs in the world, don't believe me? Look it up.

  • Why would anyone want a dog that "is most commonly compared to a cat"? Failed dog. Dog should actually be a cat.

  • @nodozer555, I am a professional dog groomer, and the more I deal with dogs on a day-to-day basis, the more I like cats. I am readying my home for an Afghan, in part BECAUSE they are catlike...I admire and appreciate their independence and spirit, and I have fallen in love with their general temperament. If a catlike independence doesn't appeal to you, that's fine, I can respect that. However, respect that everyone has differing tastes. Your "faildog" is my DREAM dog.

  • they are soooo funny i love her :)

  • These beauties are wonderful!!!! They are supermodels!!!!! I love them!!!!!!!!! ;-)

  • the dark haired ones remind me of snoop dogg :P

  • I love AFGHAN'S =) and I own one. But my Persian cat listen more then Her LOL ...

  • @SUBY9 lmao =) ur lucky! so are you saying cats and afgan houd get along very well? because i have many cats and i want this dog :) fighting would be bad though...

  • I love these dogs. I sometimes find the obsessive "LOVE ME ALL THE TIME PLZ!!" attitude of most dogs to be annoying. I think the cat-like attitude of an Afghan is what appeals them to me most.

  • @PrettyRubbish, I could not agree more. :) I have a very "needy" dog, and while I wouldn't trade her for the world, her constant separation anxiety and clingy-ness does get old fast. I can't wait until I have my Afghan!!! :)

  • I have afghans and they're wonderful!!! and much more intelligent than many people I've seen ;P

  • @vickopalma lmao why is that? o.o

  • I have an Afghan. They hardly respond to you, and almost never respond to you when you ask them to 'come here'.

But when they see a doggy treat in your hand... Completely opposite. They will follow your orders and respond to you endlessly. It's kind of funny.

  • 2:41

  • These dogs are so gentle. I've had one in my training class before and they take treats with their tongue, never their teeth!

  • @MsLabMom how adorable!!!

  • nah, don't make excuses this dog is just stooooopid

  • Comment removed

  • dude an afghan is a beautiful and a slender dog perfect for a loner the maintenance of the coat comes along with the dog the afghan is perfect during the winter you can snuggle up to it and no doubt it will love you for doing it

  • beautiful

  • People say dogs tend to look like their owners, well, my blondee friend really needs one of those!

  • afghan hounds are majestic & beatuiful dogs..

  • @younghippo are you joking??? these things are ugly as shit...like a poodle

  • @priya1985 sorry you cant appreciate a unique looking dog,.. maybe you should stick to golden retriever videos

  • when people use breeds to test bite strength u usually think of a pitbull or a rotweiller and are always the ones being tested but the afghans are the ones bred to fight wolves and leopards but u never hear about their bite pressure it would be good to know what one can do

though most in europe and america are house dogs and have been for a long time id imagine 1 from a long line generation of hunting big game and leopards would be a bit bigger and stronger

  • if i could marry a dog it would be dis won. they look like girls rofl. tht aint y. they arent DUMB btw. they usually dont listen to numerous ppl. they hav 1 leader. mine chose me even tho im a kid! i still hav won. it does act like a cat at time. tht is y it gets along with my cats i guess rofl

  • They're good dogs. They just need a good patient owner to guild and teach them, just as any dog does; Some more than others. If dog get's a bad reputation, its the owners fault, not the dogs.

  • Isn't this the Disney Channel guy narrating? Hahaha

  • @webothgowrongx33 come to think of it, i bet he is. good ear.

  • here are reasons not to have this dog:

they are stupid and hard to train

they are very sensitive and a little scratch makes them upset

    every day brushing... NO WAY!

not very good guardian dog everyone can beat the crap out of it

  • @animalsshouldlive hahaha its funny how ur user name is "animalsshouldlive" and ur sittin here sayin how this dog is stupid and should not have it!!!!! i true animal lover would defanitly not say that

  • @animalsshouldlive o please. They are not stupid. Not to have this dog? Who are u to say that. Are u asking people not to keep an afghan hound becoz they are stupid. Keep your comment to yourself.

  • @animalsshouldlive

    1) They're stubborn, not stupid. Big difference. If they were so stupid, they wouldn't be used for hunting on their own. Hounds think on their own and don't kiss everyone's asses like retrievers and herding breeds.

    2) As for the hair - it's called shaving.

  • @vampiricconure shave an affies coat?!?! you must be kiding!

  • @animalsshouldlive Are you kidding? My mom used to own and show this breed. They are fantastic guard dogs and are intimidating in size; when we would walk our female people would cross the street. They aren't prissy-sensitive dogs and are far from stupid. I love this breed.

  • @animalsshouldlive, "hard to train" yes, "stupid" NO. Being independent isn't indicative of being stupid, sometimes just the opposite! As for everyday brushing...fine by me! I'm a groomer, it's what I do. :) Also, not everyone wants a guard dog. Different people have differing tastes, YMMV. I for one LOVE Afghans!

  • they are the smartest most soulful of animals with a protective spirit , the one i had was the most loyal companinon , the people who seem to like them are a bit airhead like , i happened to have one ,my fathers secratary when i was little left it with us ,he had been abused by her ex boyfriend and would curl up into a ball ,we got him to come out and prance again , i wish he had not given that dog back to her . he was the best animal ever.

  • lol this is the ugliest dumbest dog breed i've ever seen. loooool

  • @Nemesis2459 how could you say that.

  • :P: fabop

  • I know a rancher who has three of them running around his place, though they are NOT people dogs AT ALL. They will kill anything thats not a grazing animal besides humans who they'll just shadow

The neighbor's kid released two puppy labs on day that ran to far from the house.... 10 secs later just scraps

Very good protectors, but even the owner gives them a wide berth. He just leaves food out for them, they'll get about 50 feet from him and wait for him to leave.

  • I had an afghan as a kid.

I remember the wite fur on his chest and his bad temper.

I was walking through a hall and didn't see him and accidentally stepped on his tail and he bit me and growled.

He also was anxious to walk outside.

In fact, you could say he loved to run and be out and about.

Another thing i remember was my mom saying how tedious it was to get knots out of his fur because he had really long fur.

And my afghan was stupid but he had the best daughter:afghan-german shephard mix

  • I've found that fast breeds such as the Afgan Hound and the Greyhound are also sighthounds. Also, these dogs were used to hunt gazelle and can out-pace them. That tells you how fast they are.

  • i am an afghan and i want an afghan hound as as it is possible becoz it is king of dogs

  • Fabio!!

  • my afghan puppy he barks maybe 1-2 a day.. MAYBE and thats only if my other dog wont play with him lol. they dont shed with all the hair, there great dogs but becarefull with the puppies they love to bite you, playing of course. and yes they are good for indoors as long as u have somewhere they can run at full speed, closed off would be best, they love to chase small animals and birds, (squirrels beware) i love my afghan although they are very aloof, they dont need u to pet them and all that.

  • is this dog for inside the house????because i want one too!!!PLEASE ANSWER ME!!!!

  • One of my neighbors has one (in an apartment) and according to her, her dog sleeps most day and almost never barks. I don't know if that applies to all Afghan dogs or my neighbor's individual dog.

  • Afghans are impossibly intelligent dogs, just not "I'm here to serve" dogs. I own 3. I knew one who opened the fridge door, took what he wanted, and purposely bump the door to close it again. Had to get a lock. Yes, they are runners - that's what they were bred to do - run and hunt. They love their own families, and are suspicious of others. They are large dogs, and can scare almost anyone with their bark, but would run before get into it with people. Small animals beware! Luv my afs!

  • I have had two afghans the first lived to 15 and was quite the devil. He travelled with me all over the country and even lived on a boat in the Virgin Islands. My second Afghan was a black and tan elegant lady. We live in Minnesota and she hated getting her feet wet so she would almost tip toe out to go. She is gone after 14 years and I miss her so...

  • They compare afghan hounds to cats ? WTF ? these hounds are designed to hunt. they are not pussies. Yes they do not do stupid tricks like any other dog becuase they are made to be in the wild not at your bedside listening to your bedtime time story.

  • erm. i think they compared afghan hounds to cats only in terms of their aloof nature. thats all. ya. chill. haha.

  • cats hunt too, dummy

  • mine has dread locks

  • @kililikwa LOL

  • i have an afghan hound and she is the smartest dog i have ever owned. i am a daughter of a groomer...and have been around dogs my entire life...i have never had a dog as wonderful as her. as long as she gets her attention and excersize..she is amazing ^.^

  • Had two growing up. They're nuts. Fun to have as a kid but my parents had to give them away after they'd always escape and attack other dogs and pet rabbits. They jumped over or dug under whatever fortress we could devise. Stubborn and a bit nasty but fun. I've had various hounds ever since.

  • They're stunning to look at; I love their hair!

  • @GladiatorShield have you ever owned one?? O.o

  • @ GladiatorShield So Wat Your Retarted Too! No Those Dogs Are Very Smart Jackass!

  • thanx yous be intelogent!!

  • i have finally figured out what Fabio always reminded me of...

  • Funny how some of you morons out there base intelligence on how much a dog is willing to listen to you.

By your logic, wolves must be the dumbest of all canine species, since they don't respond to you trying to teach it how to do silly 'tricks.'

  • the 1 lAyin on chair looked like a sloth lol

  • OOOHHHH i, getting one for my b-day so i just cant wait!!!!! They look soooooooooo cute and i like cats so there the perfect dog for me!!!!

  • Ive aways wanted an aphgan... beautiful dogs, and probably would be more suited to me judging by this video as I am more of a cat person... ;)

  • looks a little like a goat.

    verry cute.

  • They look like yanni the musician ... LOL.

    Very beautiful dogs !

  • the dogs look sostrange, i just dont like all the hair and i know someone with this dog and they are almost imposible to train

  • They look like snoop dog

  • LOL, it looks like sumone put a wig on them

    seems like a nice dog

  • it looks like cosmo kramer with

  • It has hair like Fabio

  • HAHAHA yeah, i thought the same thing, cracks me up

  • @Shrubbs It has better hair than Fabio.

  • I love this breed, is really the most beautiful and most expensive!

  • They are not stupid by any means. I have owned afghan's, pets, for many years. One spoke English. Answered"Can you roll overr?", "Roll over", and "Say roll over". differently. One once tricked the border collie out of his frisbee. She pretended she had it, ran away to draw him away, then went back to pick it up. If she had tried to pick it up with him near, he would have to get it .

  • u r wrong dude they r cunning as a cat

  • omg wtf :D

  • If I had more time for dogs, I would get an afghan. I love the breed, but their coat takes too much time to keep in good condition... so I'll stick to my goldies. :)

  • I love managing long coats.

  • are you kidding me? the long silky hair on the dog, long slender legs, sharp nose - supermodel of the dog world....

  • @cinnamonteak thats why they rank last on the intelligence level

  • @cinnamonteak NOT.

  • I had a family in my neighborhood that walked thier Afghan every day. It was a nice dog, but his coat always looked messy.

  • Goodness that's a lot of hair! They're so regal and majestic!

  • they look like long haired girls!cute!

  • lol.. dumb blonde

  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE AFGHAN HOUNDS !!! BEST DOG EVER !!! I LOVE HOW CRAZY THEY CAN BE ! I have 2 and they are great !

  • They Look Like They May Shed. Do They?

  • Afghan Hounds are not Golden Retrievers. They are independent thinkers who don't particularly care about pleasing you. Most Afghan Hounds are stubborn and can be manipulative. You must show them, through absolute consistency, that you mean what you say.

  • After having a female, and then a male, I got brave and went for 2, a male and a female. Best time of my life with the different personality/temperaments, and my first pair were as extreme as you could get. A blond desert type female, and a brindle mountain man. One panted almost all year, and the other hardly ever.

  • that looks like Jafar from Aladdin. ahhhh!!!

  • can someone please explain me if the hairs on the snout fall down for themselves or hey shaving them?

    thank u on advance ! =>

  • The hair on the snout is naturally short. Best breed ever, I love mine to bits.

  • Are you talking about the "monkey fur" that Afghans have when they are puppies?

  • there so pretty

  • Life with afghans will never be boring - thats for sure! They are incredible dogs. I dont know any breed who can be compare with Afghan. People, who think that dog most listen and slave to the owner, please, dont take Afghan. This dog is not for you. I love affies because they are smart, and because they can think. And they are surely the most beautiful dogs)) They also can be very good in playing)) And they have sence of humor))

  • I agree 1000%. I Think I have had a few Jekyll & Hyde's. One Super dominant, was the most people loving. If you made eye contact you HAD!!!! to pet him, or rather let him rub on you, or he went Ballistic! Another, who was the sweetest there could be with family and friends, and liked to lay behind me in the SWagon with her muzzle on my shoulder, was a terror as a watchdog. Scared the bejezus out of a nephew who Didn't believe he should Make Sure she knew it was him coming in at 3AM. Whoa!!

  • Afghan Hounds are just like the Afghans themself.

    Independant.

    Proude.

  • aww they are sooo...catish

  • Af's are Great with people, unless abused, but any problem they may have is easily fixable. I developed a fear of dogs after a bad scare when 11. After being around a friends puppy, i wanted a dog, First time I saw an Af, I knew that was my breed. I have had 6, and they can be all prices. I got my first from a pound, and others from breeders or rescues. I like getting them back to what they should be, confident, and loving. I've turned basket cases into perfect pets. You'll never be bored...

  • where should I look for a breeder? I can't find much useful information on obtaining one :S

  • A friend had a neighbor whose goats wouldn't listen to their B Collie. She lent her one of her Af''s who taught the goats and the BC how to do it.))

  • Afghans are very intelligent, they just like to do what they want, you throw a ball for an Afghan and they give you a look to suggest, you threw the ball fetch it yourself. Mine are very intelligent, they bark when they want to go out and bark when they want to come back in. If my bitch cannot get on the sofa she tells you to move.

  • what a silly video... I have an afghan, son of a champion, who couldn't show because he has an imperfect toothline... he is the most loving, intelligent, affectionate dog I've ever met, and is so wonderful around other dogs and yes, cats too... if you want a dog that is more loyal than a mate and calm, gentle and brilliant, this is the breed for you... two hours of grooming every other week is a lot less than we spend on ourselves, and it makes for good bonding time... I love my Ziggy!

  • Well Border Collies are totally boring, don't subject the Afghan hound to that breed, you will be sorry. If you like dogs that only want to do whatever you ask then you cannot handle an afghan. Oh and they will not be herded.

  • Hrm...let's see. . .least intelligent breed of dog and MOST catlike ? That makes perfect sense ! Even still, gorgeous dogs and an order of magnitude more estimable than ANY cat ! I may get a few (Afghans) for my border collie, Duncan, to herd !

  • Might not work. My border collie herded the afghan. She was nice, let him, unless she wanted to do something else. Border collies are slow in comparison. Because of him, however, she comes when she is called (not a usual afghan trait), which he trained in when she was a puppy.

  • these dogs are awesome...in fact my mom says that i "look" these dogs....is that a compliment or an insult??? lol...

    >Bri

  • Afgans can start around $250 for a garden variety non showable dog. They get attached to "their" people but then might not care to have others in their space. They are high mantenance hair and they can be sneeky, devious, vendictive...but use the "cuteness factor" to get out of trouble. I loved mine- also they need lots of running space-and they can jump over just about any fence you put up from a seated position even. Mine lived 13 years each. Here is to you Oden, Sethra and Vidar!

  • can somebody tell me about their attitudes towars people??.. and how much do they cost!??? pls..

  • I'm sure you can find information about them off of the AKC website, and then do a search for dog breeders. My mom found Afghan breeders in the back of a Dog Fancy.

  • AFGAN HOUNDS ROCK!!!!woo hoo!

  • i love these dogz

  • That list was so stupid. Trainers find less intelligent dogs more trainable than highly intelligent dogs b/c highly intelligent dogs can get bored easily. All dogs are intelligent, just different types of intelligence.
