  • That's nice, but he is no Toby Stephens

  • His voice is perfect, but he's waaaaaaaaaaaay too hot for Rochester.

  • He so handsome and she so fugly..

  • Damn he is a sexy manipulative bastard lol he's a walking contradiction

  • Anyone who says this production isn't good is kind of an idiot. The acting is superb, as is the acting in the 2006 BBC version--although it's not at all faithful to the novel. Toby Stephens makes up for the liberties . . . omg so hot.

  • Damn Dalton is hot.

  • 2006 was more for those who didnt read the book or understand it....this is the best version i think. 2011 was pretty good compared to the 2006 one...

  • How different the words in this one are compared to other versions (As this is older I suppose these are the words from the book)

  • i think the 2006 one totally sucked. Disgeniune and overly acted.

    This one is Perfection.

  • @pecky143 yes! exactly what i was thinking!!! this one is the best version i think

  • come now people....the 2006 BBC is so much better than all the others! So much more passion and chemistry

  • he's too handsome, not that there is something wrong about it...lol

  • I like the 2006 version the best but this one is good too!

  • I think TD is a good Rochester but Zelah Clarke strikes me as all wrong for Jane Eyre. I just don't feel the passion. Or perhaps it was the style of acting in such dramas in the early 80s.

  • I like the 2006 scene way better !!

  • OMG Heathcliff is also Mr. Rochester? no way...

  • From the min 5:49 we can see the fair in his eyes

  • at 4:52, it looks as though she has eaten a lemon.

  • timothy dalton just sits there ans smiles when jane is showing how much he is loved.

  • Timothy Dalton really reminds me of Laurence Olivier. Great version. :3

  • i am now on a mission to watch every version of Jane Eyre again. i have seen the 2011 version and have to say it was fantastic (although i wasn't expecting to like it) i have also seen the 2006 and 1996 so this one is next! Can't wait!!

  • In addition to all of the astute observations here, I must say...Timothy Dalton is FIIIIIIIIIINE~ I remember being at a friend's house and The Living Daylights came on, and everybody was trying to figure out who Bond was. I don't think I even let them finish asking each other before I said, "IT'STIMOTHY DALTON" haha

  • I adore this scene TD is such a wonderful actor! I swear I can feel the emotions he is emulating he is that good!!

  • The majority of comments say that Timothy Dalton is the best Rochester ever l absolutely agree.Second best l think is Fassbender, not like Dalton but good enough.I didnt like Toby Stevens and William Hurt though. They were both so unfit for this role espessialy Stevens and the 2006 adaptation was so foreign to the novel, they completely changed its plot. They even made it too sexual.Jane and Rochester were never that intimate.Thats why l prefer the 1983 adaptation cause its the best

  • @annetekoul Yes!!! My thoughts exactly!

  • Why is Rochester smiling every time he´s shown???

  • Never seen this adaptation but think I need to after seeing this! I love how jane is so together up until he says she must stay and then she gets angry at him and breaks her composure. Thats what i imagine her to be like. Too many janes do the whole scene with all guns blazing, i think this is much better

  • The morning after scene was my favorite scene with her running into the living room with her arms outstretched for him. too cute. plus Timothy Dalton is a fox.

  • the best version ever!! It touched me so much, that's how I imagined the characters when reading the novel. And the love they feel for each other, makes me want to cry, it's so unearthly and mystic!!

  • I love this version of Jane Eyre, simply because it's such good acting.Timothy Dalton and Zelah Clarke have done an amazing job! Whenever I read the book, I can only see these two portraying Rochester and Jane.

  • This is the closest version to the book...and is my favourite.

I LOVE Timothy Dalton, he completely embody's the character of Rochester. Zelah Clark, too, is a fantastic Jane. The two actors look very good together ( I especially love the height difference!lol. It looks like I pictured it from the novel)

The new 2011 version though may take it's place as my favourite! For I LOVE Mia and Fassbender. And the review's have been fanastic! Can't wait to see it, I love the soundtrack!

  • This is my favorite version of Jane Eyre. The 73 version is my second favorite. Thanks for uploading this.

  • I have this on dvd and I have to say, I absolutely do not like Sela Clarke's interpretation of Jane. She is too modern, her acting is affected. And she has a pimple on her face that keep getting bigger, then smaller. I understand why, but it's just annoying. I know, petty. But Timothy Dalton...oh yeah! PERFECT.

  • Timothy Dalton is the BEST Mr.Rochestor!!!!!

  • Did they cut the "head bash against the tree" scene?

    Oh, wrong movie. LOL

Timothy Dalton was the best Rochester and the ONLY Heathcliff !!!!!!!!!!

  • I SIMPLY LOVE THIS SCENE!TIMOTHY DALTON IS PERFECT AT THE ROLE OF ROCHESTER IN LOVE!

  • They have a great chemistry! Iliked both of them and the actress had something that made her Jane)))Timothy is the best as always)))And it is my fav version!!!!!!

  • Love Timothy Dalton, but I think he was too handsome to be Rochester.

  • this is the best version of the proposal bye far but he is 2 handsome!

  • this is the best version of the proposal bye far

  • @guitarplayinggoddess i totaly agree.it is exactly as in the book! bravo!

  • @wesahsecretlovers i know did you know there is another movie coming out in march it looks really well done it has alice from alice in wonder land playing as jane eyre looks epic

  • @guitarplayinggoddess Ηello!! yes, i have seen the trailer..it seems nice..i will probably see it..BUT I TRULLY HOPE THAT THIS VERSION WILL BE FAITHFULL TO THE BOOK! I DIDNT LIKE JE OF 2006 BECAUSE IT WAS FAR FROM THE NOVEL!

  • @wesahsecretlovers thankyou someone who doesnt totally like hollywoods take on one of the best books in american history. in 2006 they rushed the begining and added things in and its so annoying(hint to the directors people already love the book dont screw it up)lol

  • haha, the actress who plays jane looks like my cousin!!!!

  • @polkadotpolka123 Hahahaha, great!! Did your cousin work with Timothy Dalton?? ;)

  • @audreyhepburn652 haha she wishes :D

  • @polkadotpolka123 Bahahaha XD I totally thought the same thing with my cousin!

  • I think Timothy Dalton's facial expressions when Jane Eyre is asking if Rochester is earnest are spot on- you can see the strange, nervous agitation described in the book.

  • @Cuthrin Really it looks like same face he does throughout the whole scene.

  • Everytime I see TImothy Dalton (Mr Rochester)'s face, I just think of his Role in Simon Pegg's movie, when he says:

    "Here comes the fuzz..."

  • @acousticblackbird I haven't watched that film, but I suppose you're right.

  • @acousticblackbird My sentiments exactly...lol.

  • @acousticblackbird Every time I see Timothy Dalton's face, all I can think of his him singing "Love Will Keep Us Together" to Mae West in the movie Sextet.

  • i like timothy dalton and i love jane eyre but this is not the best version i did enjoy it though thanks for posting all the proposal scenes :)

  • @anon72390 I agree: This isn't the best version of Jane Eyre. My fav is '73, but I know there are other which are probably better.

You're welcome!! I'm happy you like them!

  • OMG! All the other versions are pale imitations! If you haven't seen this one, you have not seen Jane Eyre. The chemistry between Zelah and Timothy was frickin' amazing.

  • @ashleymarisa Mmm, I like this version, but I choose 73' one. Michael Jayston is, IMO, the best Mr. Rochester ever (because anyone had the brilliant idea of phoning Mr. Alan Rickman to ask him for playing the character).

  • @audreyhepburn652 Thanks for giving me another version of Jane Eyre to watch! I love the book and I love to see what different actors bring to it. From the clips on YouTube, I like Sorcha's performance, but I'll have to see the whole thing to make up my mind about Michael Jayston. What did you think of Toby Stephens in the '06 one?

  • @ashleymarisa Totally agree! I think it isn't very famous (in my country, at least), and I love this story, so... Why not share it through internet with other people who also love it?

I don't like Sorcha's performance (too forced), but Jayston... He's quite good! I thought the same before watching all the videos. Now I think he's the perfect Mr. Rochester.

Toby is great! I like '06 version. He's too handsome for me (Edward is 'ugly' in words of Jane) but he's an awesome actor. Do you like him?

  • @audreyhepburn652 Yes, Toby is great. I like him and I agree w/you. He is much too good-looking to play Mr. Rochester. However, the '06 version was just a little too sexed up for me, particularly when Jane was about to leave after finding out that he had a wife. How did you feel about them adding that into the story?

  • @ashleymarisa Umm, I'd thought about that question before... As woman in love, I can understand Jane lies in Mr. Rochester's bed and accept his caresses and kisses, but as I see her I don't believe she'd have done it. Remember the time we're talking about (19th Century, England), and think if a girl like Jane, so thoughtful, so sensible, would have allow that they were closer together. Mmm, I don't think so.

  • @audreyhepburn652 I totally agree! I guess they wanted to modernize it, but that was completely out of character for her and the time that she lived in. Thanks for the conversation; it's nice to have someone to talk about this with.

  • LOVE THIS MOVIE AND BOOK!!!!!!!

  • @nelly11796 Me too!
